Nice drawings and very informative
I had a look at this before wrapping it for my daughter’s Christmas. This is well worth the money. The visuals are great and easy to follow. I learned a lot from the book, and I’ve been doing art for many years. I’d highly recommend this book.

Good quality illustrations.
Standard advice on how to use coloured pencils with examples. Written in a straightforward way. The examples of artists work are very good and inspiring, as levels one can aim, in time to achieve. Plus a nice quality book with good illustrations.

Great book for learning how to draw with coloured pencils, lots of exercises supported by great images
Love this book. I was looking for a book to give me working images on methods to use to get better at using coloured pencils. How to use and blend etc. It didn’t matter to me the brand of pencils used in the book, as it’s the methods of achieving the textures I wanted. You can apply that to whatever make coloured pencils you have. The content gives lots of examples and how to create the look. I’ve atarted doing the exercises already and feel the benefit already.

Nicely layed out and would suit any level as lots of interesting information.
Nicely designed and has a lot of interesting information. I have just taken up drawing again after many years and bought it to refresh my memory and to give me some confidence and insoeration. It is a good value book that would suit any level.

Good book but spoilt by typos
Very useful book but it's a shame I immediately saw some errors. Jesse Lane "after the storm" referenced in the book and says in the text "she" started with black.....Jesse Lane is a guy. To make it worse in the index his name is spelt wrong again this time Jessie Lane. Someone didn't proofread this very well.

The Encyclopedia of Coloured Pencil Techniques.
This is probably the most useful practical book to have as a guide to using coloured pencils. The strengths of this book lie in the large and diverse number of examples of works by contemporary artists and illustrators which serve to inspire the reader – there is no overall doctrine or method being pushed here, as can be the case with certain other (American) books on coloured pencil technique. There are four demonstration sections which some will find useful, but most of the early part of the book covers elementary stuff like selection of materials, papers, basic techniques etc., leaving the student to explore the medium creatively for themselves – by far the best way to learn any artistic practice. The book does appear to assume a level of competence prior to beginning with the medium, so it may not suit the complete beginner - that has to be noted. This has been a handy reference for my own work as well as providing useful examples for the students in my art classes who have dabbled with coloured/pastel pencils and require some ideas and guidance. It is certainly a recommendable starter for those who have done a bit of drawing and perhaps want to stay with a graphic medium rather than move into oils, watercolours or acrylics.
