EXCELLENT book
Yay!.....all those things that I wanted and never got around to buying for myself.....my husband can make me!! For example, a letter rack, spaghetti guage, recipe book holder and my salad utensils and meat tenderizer amongst other things. This book has some beautiful little things in it all to be made from offcuts which would normally be thrown away by many people. It would be great to make some smaller things and give them away as gifts or sell them for charity, perhaps.... As far as my husband is concerned....well, I've tried to talk to him, but he is glued to his new book. The odd "aah haah!" and "right.....I see...." coming from him occasionally means, I think, that he's appreciative of his new reading material. Derek Jones has the finished article, shows it to you in diagram format, dissected so-to-speak, and picture-by-picture you are shown how to build the item in question. The 176 page book has been put together as follows: Part One - Basics Tools Materials and Jigs Part Two - Projects Serving Platter Marble Game Ring Box Picture Frame Meat Tenderizer Wedge End Box Spaghetti Guage Salad Serving Forks Desk Tidy Pen Case Floating Shelf Collectors Tray Sliding Dovetail Box Japanese Work Trestles Letter Rack Recipe Book Holder Bird Box Garden Planter Tool Caddy Desk Lamp Glossary Suppliers About the Author Index "Woodworking from Offcuts" is definitely recommended. I hope the information was helpful.

good read for new starters in woodwork
I enjoyed the read, but having been in the trade for 40 years, I was already aware of most of the projects, but it was a good refresher

You need every power tool known to man to benefit from this book.
A good book if you are stuck for a small project in a massive workshop. If you have just a saw, sandpaper and a mitre saw this is NOT the book for you. The title is a little deceptive in that it sort of implies that these are projects for the weekend amateur in their garage. This is not really the case. Mildly interesting and some thought provoking projects.
