If you pull the door shut it works fine, but if someone turns the handle when shutting the door it will lock. You can see it in the product video, when the handle is turned the oppupancy indicator turns as well. When the person in the video shuts the door they pull it closed they don't turn the handle and pull it closed then release handle. If you close the door by the second method it will lock itself. You need to attached a flat head screw driver near door to enable it to be easily opened once door "locks" everyone out.

10.14.2023 - We installed this a few months ago. This is a high quality lock. When you lock the door, it's feels like a solid clunk and has the feel that it will last a long time. This is on a auto repair shop bathroom for our techs so it gets use ALL DAY LONG. Now I can see if someone is in the bathroom - even from across the shop, 40-50 feet away. This saves me time from walking across the shop and checking the door. So far zero issues. I will update this post if anything changes. If there is no updated, it's still working.

Assembly wasnt terrible, the problem is when i tighten everything snugly the male part that inserts into the wall to actually secure the door closed will only restract and extend well if the door handle is only loosely screwed in and the handle is wiggly and loose. So the door wont lock basocally because it wont extend into the wall unless i leave the handle loose. I cant have that. I bought 3 of these things and all of them react the same. I even put a lubricant inside the parts to attempt to correct it and it wont. Something is wrong with the design of this product.

Bought these for a taekwondo studio that has two changing rooms. Replaced ordinary household privacy knobs that weren't working so great. Now students can instantly tell if the room is available instead of having to guess and fight with the old knobs. Installation was pretty easy, but there were two tabs (on each knob) that I had to bend back because the hole in the door wasn't large enough and I didn't feel like making the holes bigger. Still works flawlessly. Changing from right hand to left hand operation is as simple as removing the windowed ring and rotating it 180 degrees.

Best lock i have ever used: very clear sign and easy read the words. Worth it to replace my old one. Install was easy and straight forward, just following the instruction inside the package, not mention it looks nice and commercial. i had it installed for my restaurant restroom door and it worked great. i like it and thank you VACANTSPACE.

Bought to use for the staff bathroom at school. We needed to have more privacy and having something that was telling people it was in use helped alot. No more annoying knocking.
