![Fifth Element [Blu-ray] [2010]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51cWj0Pxp0L.jpg)

A film by Luc Besson Set in the 23rd century, Luc Besson's visually-arresting The Fifth Element takes us to a world vastly different from that which we know today. For ex-Marine Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis), life has become tediously repetitive: he drives a flying cab for a living, and eats take away from the same Chinese restaurant, which delivers directly to his window, every day. But little does Korben know, a great extra-terrestrial Evil has teamed up with Zorg (Gary Oldman), and threatens to destroy the Earth, an event which can only be prevented by combining the four Earthly elements with an alien "Fifth" element. Soon, Korben finds himself a pivotal figure in saving the Earth when a beautiful alien, Leeloo (Milla Jovovich), falls through the roof of his cab, and turns out to be the elusive fifth element. In the ultimate battle of good versus evil, only Korben and Leeloo control the key to humanity's survival. And the clock is ticking... DVD Special Features The Element: the Making of The Fifth Element The Alien Element: Mangalores, Mondoshawans, Picasso & Srikers The Digital Element The Fashion Element The Star Element: Bruce Willis & Milla Jovovich The Visual Element Theatrical trailer Review: Another gem for the SF collectors. - I first saw this when working abroad for several days at an exhibition, and it was looped on the screens of the stand opposite ours. To my amazement I was still not bored with it when we packed up at the end; for an SF enthusiast like me this is most unusual because all too often Hollywood SF is so clichéd and full of plot holes it is not worth watching. But this modern fairy tale, where as usual Good after many trials and tribulations eventually triumphs over Evil, is from Europe. The Fifth Element broke the usual commercial studio rules and showed Hollywood how it should really be done; resulting in high quality Space Opera with such classic style and superb acting and glorious imagination one can forgive it anything. I bought my copy in Nov 2003 soon after I returned home. Bruce Willis plays Bruce Willis as usual, and yet somehow the character is appropriate to the part. The heroine is beautiful and vulnerable and yet redoubtable and necessary, the villains are suitably villainous and essential to the plot, the military display their customary intelligence, and Chris Tucker adds lunatic spice to tip the whole film over the precipice into an eminently watchable delight. This film is frequently repeated on commercial TV, and each time we say, "Ah, we've got that one, lets cut the commercials and watch the DVD instead." And that is when one notices that the 5.1 sound and 2.35:1 picture quality on the DVD are both significantly better than the usual bit-rate-starved Broadcast, even though watching and listening on the same big screen and surround system. My Special Edition 2-DVD version has on the second disc a number of interesting extras including a 'Making of' documentary, four revealing and interesting featurettes about the conceptions behind the film, and the usual trailers and advertising material used to originally promote the film. The last item is a tempting teaser that this was only the first half of the story, but alas so far Besson has said that a sequel will not happen. Review: Good movie. - Good movie always enjoy watching this movie

Such an underrated classic
One of my old favourites from the 90s. Feeling like ‘that guy’ that says they don’t make movies like that anymore - but they don’t! This was all about practical effects and I loved the costumes, the aliens and the outfits style across the movie! So cool! And an epic story!

Absolutely stunning!!
I recently got around to watching the Bluray of this movie and this version of the film both looks and sounds amazing. The picture is clear, crisp and packed full of detail, colours are perfect for my eyes, the BD really brings the movie to life. I've only had the vhs to compare it to and freeview when it's been aired and this bluray blows both of them away. The sound track is expansive, clear, detailed and really puts you in the movie. There is no way this movie is DVD quality, whilst I haven't watched the DVD of The Fifth Element no DVD picture can possibly look as good as this version of the film. The picture does pop and looks three dimensional, there wasn't a single part of the movie that looked bad, it has that real quality of a good Bluray transfer of an old film (I have It's a Wonderful Life and Blade Runner, which were both amazing transfers of films recorded on analog mediums and they too look great dispite being older films), if you want to watch this movie in the best possible way then this is the source to do it from. With the film itself I love it, it has a great story, is acted well, funny in all the right places, I love sci-fi so as a lover of many things sci-fi this is a great movie. If you've seen the film, love it like me (or have yet to see it, but love quirky, action movies, maybe with a bit of futuristic sci-fi stuff) and don't have this Bluray in your collection then I highly recommend getting yourself a copy. Excellent film, excellently produced in HD.

This is a review of the 2015 Blu-ray release. 1 x 48-GB disc (movie + bonus material) I wanted to own a copy of this movie. After reviewing different editions and comparing snippets, I settled on the 2015 release in plain full HD. No regret! I wanted to watch the movie as I remembered it: colorful. I was a bit turned off by the 2017 4K Sony release. I looked at snippets of the 2020 release on YouTube, but it wasn't as I remembered it. When studios push for HDR releases, they also alter the contrast, which is off-putting to me. Additionally, the grain structure seems to be enhanced, which I find distracting. I hoped the 2020 release would be better, as I was told it's more colorful. Sadly, the post-processing and coloring for this version isn't true to form; it seems they used the original negatives and not the final edited version. As a result, the coloring and some cuts were not how I actually saw it as a kid; "imitated" might be a better word. Then there's the bonus material. It seems bonus material isn't common anymore, so if you want actual additional content, the older releases seem to offer more. The 2020 release offers nothing. The 2015 release comes with a pleasing amount of bonus material. The 1080p version is lower resolution, but this softness tames the heavy grain structure, which reduces the distractions as the grain size changes scene to scene. There is no HDR, so no worries about contrast being overdone either. The soundtrack is Atmos, so it's wonderful. But the final clincher was that the 2015 FHD release was about 1/7th the cost of the 2020 4K release. I watched this movie with full delight. No part of the movie felt wrong or not as I remembered it. A couple of scenes were a tad brighter than I remembered, like the city scene, but in a good way. The grain noise was not noticeable in the vast majority of the film, and I didn't once wish a part was HDR-enhanced. Colors were pretty much as I remembered them. With the money I saved, I'll invest it, and perhaps when there's an 8K AI-enhanced release in another ten years, I'll have saved up enough to buy two copies of that.
