Do you use a tool to hammer in without damaging the nail

The best tool is an upholstery hammer. But if you are going to do a DIY job, i would suggest using a light weight hammer (not a claw hammer) and if you start dropping the nails or hit your fingers, use a pair of long nose pliers to hold the nail.
