Funnybones

The "Funnybones" book has quickly become a favorite with my toddler. The engaging story and playful illustrations capture their attention and keep them entertained. Funnybones is the instant classic children's story from 1999 written by Janet and Alllan Ahlberg. It is a great funny adventure for young listeners to enjoy. The 32 pages are brilliantly illustrated by Andre Armstutz and capture the excitement of the skeletal trio attempting to have some fun on a dark, dark night. Originally released in 1980, Funnybones has not aged a day. It is still just as brilliant as it ever was. Having spawned a television series the work made its way into popular culture. The opening and closing of Funnybones is particularly dramatic. The dark, dark location where everything happens imprints into the mind. When read in the same kind of voice as the television show it has particular effect. The phrasing could be a little bit scary for the most sensitive small people but it is exciting as well. The characters are simple and clear, the way an early listener's books should be. The Big Skeleton seems a pretty easy going guy, saying "good idea" all the time. The little skeleton is the one who wants to try things. The dog skeleton ends up being a bit clumsy. A couple of songs help the flow of the book. They're good fun and easy to sing along with. The artwork is really quite special. It has a childlike quality to it which attracts the target audience with its bold imagery and the clear contrasts of black and white. A great and somewhat quirky story for young book enthusiasts. It has been well received by those aged 2-5 and may well continue for a couple of years more.

A timeless book, enjoyed by my sons and now my granddaughter 40 years later!

Bought this for my little ones and upon opening the pages I was hit with a wave of nostalgia! It took me right back to sitting in the school library!

Classic story and read like the tv series

I bought this for our son as I remembered loving it as a child. It was great fun to read and another firm bedtime favourite.

Adquirí este libro con tapa blanda e incluyendo CD. El libro tiene unas veinte hojas ilustradas a color, y con texto cuya letra es bastante grande, se lee con facilidad. La historia es bastante divertida. Tres esqueletos, un adulto, un niño, y un perro. Salen de su castillo y se van a asustar a la gente. El perro sufre un percance y sus huesos se desmoronan. Sus amigos los vuelven a montar, pero no lo hacen bien y resulta un perro muy divertido. Una vez solucionado el problema cómo se encontraran con otros esqueletos de animales. Las ilustraciones son muy divertidas, muy llamativas. El texto juega algo con la rima y la repetición. Hay palabras que se repiten varias veces, por lo que se facilita su comprensión y aprendizaje. El CD es sencillo, tiene únicamente 2 pistas. En la primera pista se lee el libro, con efectos de sonido. La segunda pista es la misma pero se añade un sonido especial para indicar cuándo se debe pasar la página. Está muy bien para que los niños lean a la vez que escuchen, y así aprendan a pronunciar perfectamente. Aunque el libro es en tapa blanda, es muy resistente, tanto las tapas cómo las hojas, son bastante gruesas y de buena calidad. Perfecto para cualquier comento y especialmente para Halloween! Very great book. The children at work love this book here in germany. So some Patents brought it to read it at home to their children.

My girls (4 & 2,5) just loved this book, so much though we had to by another 8 books of this series ;-)
