Hot!
My husband had put a cheaper version of this on his wishlist - he's into making creme brulees - and I chose this one for him instead, at 3 times the price of the one he chose. It was worth the money. It comes in a sturdy, professional and good looking box and the torch itself is weighty, sleek and attractive in your kitchen. It comes with a magnetic stand that seems good at first then a little pointless - lift the torch and the stand comes with it - but that's a small quibble. Very cool...for a blowtorch.

It's flaming good (see what I did there?)
Not much pomp and circumstance to what is a kitchen extravagance. Very well built and a subtle look, but not essential for every cook. Easy to refill and easy to use, and not too pricey which is welcome news. A loverly piece of kitchen class and if you don't like my rhyme you can kiss my...

COME ON BABY LIGHT MY FIRE!
The presentation box is very classy and would make a good wedding present especially for a couple who are keen amateur chefs. The item itself is very smart and easy to fill (you must use a cigarette lighter-type butane canister and just use the injector incorporated into the can, DON'T use the [usually provided] adapters) and you can see the gas level inside the blowtorch through an observation port. Produces a perfect flame that is easily adjustable for length and can be lowered in temperature, both adjustments achieved by separate sliding levers (I've only ever used the flame on the 'shortest' setting which seems perfectly adequate and saves wasting fuel). There is a magnetically-attachable base-stand provided that you just slot the main body into after use to cool and avoid burning your work surfaces; I recommend not operating with the base attached as it usually falls off from the pressure from the bottom of your palm and is unnecessary during use of the blowtorch anyway. Minor irritation is the safety-lever which is very floppy and can engage intermittently and prevent ignition; if you're mechanically-minded like myself and not a Health & Safety fetishist you can easily dismantle the torch to access the safety device (don't lose the tiny case and base screws) and isolate its crude mechanism. This may seem foolish but the actual lever for ignition is not going to switch on by itself as it has quite a resistive action which other reviewers have complained about but is necessary with the nature of this device. If you're worried about children operating this accidentally you should hand yourself in voluntarily to Social Services if you allow children anywhere near anything as potentially dangerous as a blowtorch!

A nice piece of kit if a little flimsy in parts
I suppose 3.5 stars would be a fairer assessment of this torch. It comes in a very fancy box and the adjustable flame goes from quite mild to full-blown arc welder!! My main concern is that the igniter switch tends to be very stiff at times making it hard to light and also feels very flimsy - as though it would break quite easily. Apart from that, I reckon it is well worth the money.

Creme Brulee, here we come... UPDATED
Don't waste time with other kitchen torches, this is excellent. The flame is as fierce as a plumbing torch, it fits easily in the hand and is easy to light with the flick of your thumb. The flame can be adjusted with a slider, however, when it has been newly filled and set to minimum, the flame is large enough to panic the feint of heart! The only thing I can complain about is the extravagent box it came in, which feels like it might be half the cost of this item! The attached video shows real time heating a teaspoon of sugar in some foil, which can be seen glowing orange before the sugar starts to melt. In fact, the foil melted before the sugar. UPDATE - 5 years on and this item still works fine. I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews unless the quality control is very poor. Mine is just as fierce as the video I did when I first purchased it.

Great blowtorch
I am impressed with this blowtorch. It feels well made and is a comfortable weight in my hand. The base attaches magnetically so you can choose to use it with the base or not - obviously the base is great for allowing the blowtorch to stand up which is useful when hot. It doesn't always light first time, maybe that's something to do with the gas flow going to the burner? Not sure, but it's not a problem - it has lit usually on the second attempt. I purchased this to use not just as a blowtorch for food, but also to light my Zippo Handwarmers and it does this really very well! Overall, I'm pleased with this blowtorch - happy to recommend so far.

A good tool
This was my first Cooks Blow torch and it works well. It sometimes doesn't ignite easily but it is light and easy to use. The trigger has to be held in at all times when in use, so six creme brulees causes an old hand to ache.
