Love these! They are very hard, which they are supposed to be, so be sure to soak them or break them up. I use them in soups, I make breadcrumbs from them, and I also love to put them into a salad and break them up as I eat it. Good for bruschetta, tuna salad, anything that has some liquid to it to soften up the toasts.

Yes, they are a bit crunchy. But there are ways to soften them a bit. That said, I LIKE them that way. I was introduced to them when I was spending extended time in Athens. My Greek GF at the time turned me on to them. 25 years later, and Im still buying them, though here in the States, they cant be found at the corner grocery. So Im glad to be able to get them online, though a bit more expensive... but what do you expect with all the shipping involved. I DO with the American shipper (a-hem a-hem) would do a better job of packaging on the way to my house.

Does the flavor of rye come through on these? No. Main ingredient is wheat flour, it tastes like just wheat flour and water baked into bread (can't even detect the taste of salt or yeast). The hard bread would have been edible if it tasted good, but it tastes horrible. I tried dipping them in virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and herbs and it was still inedible. I forced myself to eat two pieces of the stuff but then made myself stop realizing absolutely nothing would make them edible and I threw them out. I would have been mad if they tasted good because the stowers/pickers at Amazon crushed the package rendering half into crumbs.

They are delicious and hearty! They taste great on their own, but also with all kinds of cream cheeses for a little variety. Great with Greek coffee!
