Odi V2 Rogue MX Lock-On Grips

Love the grips, color was wrong bit not a huge deal, not easy to put left grip on pro taper bars with knurl, but i assumed that, had to tap it on with a soft face hammer. These are the only grips that i will use on a 2 stroke, really like the diameter as well.

I’ve used exclusively ODI lock on grips for the past 15 years. DH MTB and both dirt bikes, the dirt bikes both have the Rogue grip pattern. The locking flange has always worked well for me and the integrated throttle tube is so convenient, I can’t see myself ever going back to gluing grips on. Throttle side fit perfect and snapped right into the OEM Husqvarna ‘25 TE300 throttle cam. Always a bit difficult to slide the left side over the knurled ProTaper evo bars but that’s because the knurling makes the bar a larger diameter. That gives you an idea of how close the tolerances for the inner diameter are on these grips. If you push and twist at the same time it’ll get there. My bars are the stock Husqvarna contour with 1/2” cut off each end so the locking collar isn’t on the knurled area. This meant I had to tighten the grip screw a bit more than the recommended 5Nm to keep it from spinning but it’s solid. I like a thicker grip and the Rogue are just a little wider than the regular grips or half waffles. They seem to measure about 0.11” bigger than the OEM Husqvarna half waffles I took off. ~1.25” compared to 1.14”. Not much, but that extra diameter is all padding. You can see how malleable they are in the video. They’re soft on the outside which helps reduce high frequency vibrations but still supportive enough to feel sturdy. The pattern is symmetric so rotation isn’t critical. That also means that you can rotate them around if you damage one side or wear it out. It would be nice if the Rogues came in open-end versions for those of us running wrap around hand guards. I learned a few sets ago that it can be hard to make a good circular cut just using your hands so there’s more cleanup work and it’s easy to slip and cut the outside edge of the grip. I thought about using a drill bit but even my forstner bits aren’t sharp enough to cut the rubber cleanly. I ended up using my wood lathe and a brand new utility blade to make a clean cut through the rubber and score the plastic underneath enough to make for easy punching out. I then used a long punch to just tap on it, didn’t even need a hammer. I understand you don’t want the ends to be too weak for people without hand guards but this could all be avoided with an open-end version like the half waffles come in. The biggest bummer of this purchase is that they’re not the advertised color. These are the regular light grey on grey, not the nice brown-amber in the listing images. I’m keeping them since they match the grey on my bike. The locking ring is a nice titanium-silver color which is never shown in the images so I included pictures of it. The color discrepancy is obviously no fault of the grip design, just the Amazon listing. Overall they’re excellent grips and if you like the bigger diameter you won’t be disappointed.
