Holds Gate Like It Should
I needed a second one of these for the other side of a double gate. Due to moisture, one side of the wooden drive through gate had begun to twist. In order to keep it looking good, I added a second one of these. I got this one while it had a discount and it was cheaper than the box stores. Same thickness and quality and delivered to my door. It functions as designed. The hardware it came with is sufficient for the application.

Essential For Any Double Gate Installation
On a windy day, the straight 12-ft channel between our house and our neighbor creates a venturi effect, magnifying the strength of the wind and creating a safety hazard; so these cane rods are vital. The 1/2-inch thickness of the material strikes the right balance between strength and weight, and the design is simple, attractive and make for a quick and easy installation. The supplied hardware was adequate, but I opted for longer screws because of the soft cedar wood. Zoom in and you'll see the concrete anchors I installed, two for each rod. These anchors are easy to use and a snap to install, but make sure the rods are fastened to a sturdy support. I had to add 2x4 bracing because my lovely gate material was so flimsy. The forms for the anchors I improvised from PVC pipe scraps scrounged from ACE Hardware. I poured rapid-set Quickcrete (red bag) and jiggled everything for about 10 minutes until it set. Highly recommended. Price is right and love the look and function.

Rod swings open by itself in the vertical position.
When using it in the vertical position, the rod will swing by itself when the door is opened and closed causing it to drag on the ground. There needs to be something that allows you to lock the rod in the open position.
