I was excited to get this auto feeder because in the world of auto chicken feeders, finding a feeder that is timed and holds enough feed is hard to come by. This feeder was promising as it holds a decent amount, allows you to set timer feedings and you can set it in a way to measure out the amount of food at each feeding. The unit is definitely rat/mice and small vermin resistant but a raccoon can easily pop off the lid and get into the feed. The other downside of this unit is that there is no solar option so you will need to have power near where you want this to be. Which brings me to another downside in that the unit is not weather proof. Instructions state not to use the unit outdoors. While the timing unit is housed and seems weather protected, where the power cord enters the unit is not weatherproof or protected from pecking chickens. I have a chicken heater mat whose power cord is weather proof and has a hardened protective covering that can withstand my hens pecking at it. This unit does not. Additionally my hens just did not like eating from this feeder. So the feed would clog up in the center. I think if your chickens don’t mind eating from the pan the way it is you might not have this problem.
