A unique volume collecting the key writings of Elizabeth Andrews, one of the most influential female political activists of the early 20th century. Andrews was a relentless and committed campaigner for the needs of working class women from Welsh mining communities. In 1919 she was appointed Labour Party Woman Organiser for Wales, a post she held for 29 years. Includes political writings from her many campaigns on issues such as votes for women, improving living conditions and the plight of miners. With a foreword by Baroness Kinnock. Review: Outstanding autobiography! - Makes you feel like you were there and reinforces how lucky we are today. Review: story of an inspirational woman - A privelege to read this book. Elizabeth Andrews was previously unknown to me and this book tell the story of her life of unstinting work. The first labour woman organiser for wales, she was instrumental in improving the lives of mining families in the South Wales coalfield .As a child in the fifties and sixties in the Rhondda valley, I and many others benefitted from her work without realising e.g.we had nursery education before it became the norm.Elizabeth Andrews story is inspirational and it is unusual to read such an amazing story of someone that I would say is relatively unknown.Glenys Kinnock who writes the foreword to the book and others who have promoted the work and memory of Elizabeth Andrews are to be congratulated .
