Is the best book to explain step by step algebra after 20 years out of school love the details and work sheets included. Recommend it 10/10

This algebra guide has been a game-changer. It breaks down the concepts in a clear and simple way, and there are lots of chances to practice and improve. The friendly writing style makes algebra less intimidating and more enjoyable for my son. Whether he's studying on his own or in class, this guide has been a real lifesaver. This book is testing prep as well. Some problems in here are very similar to the ACT / SAT questions. I have taught out of this book for the last two years and my students who have taken the ACT / SAT shares with me great feedback because of this book.

Nice for comprehensive "review" by someone who already has a command of Algebra 1, but awful for the 8th grade beginner who needs to be taught each concept (including its history/use) as part of a logical scope & sequence, with example problems, before being expected to use this for review. Not a book for a beginner.

I got this for our rising 8th grader who had only taken pre-algebra and wanted to prepare for algebra. According to her, the instructions are well written but the answers to problems are not explained which, as we all know, problematic. Recommend as a school year helper but not a standalone learning tool.

The online resources also comes in handy

Short and concise explanations of concepts = 5 Exercises should follow the solved examples = 3 Exercises are too easy even for beginners. They should progress in difficulty within each chapter = 2 There could be more exercises for each chapter. I understand there are practice books but on Amazon ca they are not available = 3

This book is great. But some of the exercises have no prior practise examples. Kids will have no idea how to answer those questions because they were not taught in the chapter before having to answer the questions. We also found errors in the solutions. Luckily the errors were easily clarified by using a calculator. We will do a few more questions and see how it goes. Otherwise, we will have to give it away.
