Saves me money and works great. I never thought I needed this until I bought it.
The quick part of my review then I'll add more about my experience after: 1: It is very easy to use. It took me a few attempts at first but that was because I didn't read the instructions first. The most important thing I found is rough side of the bag down. 2: It takes up very little space. As per my picture it fits nicely out of the way in the side of the drawer where I keep my plastic wrap, foil, and such. 3: Easy to maintain, take the drip tray out and toss it in the dishwasher. 4: It works fairly quick. About 10 seconds to seal one end of a bag if you are using the rolls. Then about 15-25 seconds to vacuum and then seal it closed depending on the size of the item being sealed. I've not actually timed it so what I stated is approximate. 5: Normally I try to find at least one negative when I review a product to be fair and honest. But with this I have nothing significant to mention. I guess one is it takes a bit of pressure on each side of the sealer to close fully before using but it but nothing really difficult. 6: One other tip I have to avoid liquids getting into the sealer and drip tray is to put fish and other meat in the freezer for about an hour and a half before sealing. Then seal it and freeze. Works great for me. This has been a great purchase as someone that lives alone because I can take better advantage of sales on food. When there is a really good sale on fresh fish and other meats I can stock up, vacuum seal them and freeze for later. Sure I could just toss the food in a basic freezer bag but that usually just ends up with ice crystals forming on it and the quality tends to degrade quickly. I've had this sealer since March and food I sealed and put in the freezer when I first got it still maintained significantly more quality than unsealed food. So overall this little vacuum sealer works great. I've had no problems with it and it is already saving me money by taking advantage for sales on fresh fish and meat. It is fairly quick and easy to use as well as small enough to store away without taking up too much space. I'd seen ads for vacuum sealers for a very long time but never really thought I needed one. This sealer changed my mind and I'm glad I bought it. For the price I feel like this item is a very good value.

This is a replacement for the exact same model, we loved it so much.
First things first: ROUGH SIDE DOWN! The only way this unit properly works is by ensuring the rough side of the bag is on the bottom side when using the vacuum feature. Why don't they put a little graphic inside the lid to remind users of this most important requirement? I did! Anyway, enough venting. We used our first FoodSaver so much, the pump finally gave out. I think it lasted at least 6 or more years - I honestly forget. Who cares? We got our money's worth, and more. I certainly can't blame it for eventually dying. We abused the heck out of it. We could have kept it cleaner. We could have not always used the vacuum all the way to full. We didn't have to use it for every thing on the planet we could think of - but we did. The FS-branded hard plastic storage containers work great with this, too. The pre-cut bags are nice. So are the rolls, where you can make any size bag you need. We seal and store all sorts of things with this. We can buy large quantities of OTC meds and seal them up for long-term moisture-free storage. Of course, we use it for food. The ability to create and use your ow custom-sized bags really is a great feature. And, don't you hate packages that don't re-seal? Well, this unit re-seals hot dogs, potato chips, cereal, all sorts of other product packaging that you wish had a zip seal. We even seal and preserve our own drawings with this thing! You can seal collectibles like dollar bills, coins, cards, etc. Your imagination is the limit for this great little unit. That's why we bought another one just like the first. It's not expensive, not fancy looking, no extra features (sans the hose attachment), not any of that. It just works, and works very well. We'll treat this one nicer; maybe it will last ten years!

$$$$$$$ Saver for the single people!! BUY IT NOW!!!
I’m a single, 30 year old female who works stupid hours. This food saver has been a serious game changer for me. I got to a point where I was SICK of going through the drive thru at 8pm, just to eat old french fries and dried up chicken on the comfort of my couch. So I bought this food saver. I wanted the manual style just Bc I wanted to be in control of it (a reason why I’m single🙃). The day I got it, I started vacuum sealing EVERYTHING in my pantry, fridge & freezer. I used to store boneless chicken breast in single freezer bags, just to pull them out after a week to see ice crystals all over them. I no longer have ice crystals, and nothing tastes like I pulled it out of the freezer. I vacuum pack deli meats so they last long enough for me to get through all of it, vacuum pack lettuce for salads, reseal my bags of chips, vacuum seal my leftovers into single portions, so that on busy days, I can pull them out of the freezer or fridge and boom I have a quick meal and don’t have to rely on the drive through anymore. This have seriously saved me SO much money, and has cut down on the trips to the grocery store!

Food Savers with the new connector design do work with legacy canisters, including Tilia.
My previous Food Saver lasted for over 30years. I replaced it because some times the seals did not hold, but is still worked flawlessly. I probably was not reliably putting the rough side down, because I did not know it made a difference (who knew). The new one is similarly compact for drawer storage. The sealer works great, but the accessory hose does not connect as easily as the old connector design, and the accessory hose is a little short. That being said I was delighted that all my older accessories still work with the new hose connector. I have read that you can not use the legacy Tilia containers, but actually you can attach the new accessory hose to a large mouth jar sealer, and use the jar sealer to vacuum the canister. I have always used the jar sealer with all my canisters; i just leave it connected to the hose since it rarely use the accessory hose for other uses. Except of course vacuum sealing that half a bottle of wine.

Replacement for another unit that finally quit after 15 years...
This was a replacement for my 15yo sealer that finally gave up on me, wouldn't pull a vacuum if the world depended on it :( Enough about the old unit, decided to get a reasonably close replacement for old-reliable, chose the FM2000 for simplicity in look and function -- don't need all the super-sized bells and whistles, just a good, basic unit to do the job. So far, this unit has lived up to my expectations, aside from my own learning curve: tip, look at what appear to be safety labels inside the jaw area, those are your quick-start guides. Once I figured out how to properly place the bag, everything sucked and sealed as it should. Would I buy it again, or give it as a gift? Yes, I would in a heartbeat. What is my biggest problem in using the machine? I can't cut a straight line, never could in kindergarten and have to use a straight edge as an adult, LOL, so using the roll of make-your-own-size bag material is a challenge for me, but not an insurmountable one....had the same "problem" with my old machine, so it must be an operator issue :-) Honestly, buying in bulk is usually overrated. Who needs a 24-unit case of great-priced steaks rotting in their fridge, right? That's what I love about having a machine like this, Costco, BJ's and Sam's are fair game for stocking up on great bulk deals, repacking those items into human-sized meal portions with this machine, and freeze them. Easy, peasy, nice and easy. Sure, you can seal other things -- copies of critical documents that go in an evac bag for those living in flood/earthquake/hurricane/wildfire/etc. areas is one good example -- but my use has only been with food stuffs. Pro tip: others have complained about bad seals when doing items containing some fluid, like fresh steaks. Yes, this can be a problem, but I've found a simple wipe of the bag opening with a dry paper towel to remove said moisture droplets before vacuum-seal process solved that problem for me. Have not tried sealing soups or sauces, so can't recommend the tip works in all cases, obviously. Also, make sure the bag is laying flat between the jaws. Any fold or crease in the bag along the clamp area may impede the vacuum process. If the bag seals without getting the full vacuum, I simply reseal the suspect edge and cut off the a small corner section, creating a positive opening to insert into the machine, press go and it pulls a new vacuum and seals the bag good as new. This was another problem I've had with several machines over the years, regardless of machine or bag brands, so I've learned to address it using this simple, quick 'redo' process as needed.

Another great vacuum sealer...
This is my 3rd Foodsaver in 28 years...the other two finally failed after years of daily use...mostly it's the actual seal strip that stopped working and despite my attempts to fix them by replacing the gaskets and seal strip, they had come to the end of their life. I bought one from Costco and hated how big it was, so I returned it. What I really wanted was a simple machine with no bag roll storage or cutter, an accessory port, and a small footprint on my kitchen counter. This machine fits my requirements. I use 6",8" and 11" bag rolls and this fits all of those. I also have accessories which require the accessory port and hose. This is supposed to have an accessory hose that will fit all existing accessories - NOTE: this hose has a green end that fits into the machine, and a grey end that fits into the accessory. However the grey end of the accessory hose does not fit into the vacuum port on existing accessories!! It is supposed to but does not. I called the company to get help with that and they say it is supposed to fit. I talked to a super nice lady who said currently the accessory hoses are on back order otherwise she would send me a new one to try, but she sent me a hand held accessory to seal the reuseable ziplock style Foodsaver bags. This gadget has a removable hose with two green ends, one fits in the accessory port on the machine, and the other fits perfectly into my accessory canisters/bottle sealer etc. problem solved. Foodsaver needs to include this hose in all their vacuum sealers....a hose with two green ends instead of the hose with one green end and one grey end. I hope to get another 14 years of daily use from this machine.

Works Great, But With a Glitch!
When first attempting to use the vacuum function on this machine I discovered although the pump was obviously running (I could hear it), it was not pulling a vacuum. On an instinct, I put a finger over the accessory port hole and the vacuum worked perfectly! After using this technique to seal a few bags, I decided to plug the plastic accessory tube into the port and then unplug it; the vacuum began working as it should without having to plug the accessory hole with my finger! Apparently, the port was stuck open and inserting the tube adapter and then removing it freed up the port seal. If your vacuum seal function does not work, try placing your finger over the accessory port or inserting/removing the accessory tube. I really like using this vacuum sealer and think it will help my food stay much fresher for much longer in the freezer!

Avoid.
We wish we had returned this when our problems started because we were still within the return window, but we told ourselves we "could make it work". Here's what happened: Within 3 weeks, it started to not vacuum unless you held down the lid a little tighter (even AFTER getting each side to 'click' closed). Holding the lid down tighter wasn't hard, just inconvenient, so we kept doing that. The next thing it started to do came after the 30 day return window and that was when we plugged it in, the lights would flash extra long and the 'seal' indicator would continue to flash long after the rest stopped. It wouldn't function at all after it did this and my husband had to Google the problem and how to deal with it. Before we knew it, this was the every day experience when we wanted to use it. Super mad by this point that we didn't return it. We had no idea it was about to get worse. Not long after the dancing lights, it began refusing to turn on at all when plugged in. We could plug it in to get no response from the machine, walk away, and after a short wait (20 mins) it would randomly turn on. We dealt with this for months and then it just died. No more dancing lights, no more flashing seal light, no more luck of it randomly turning on after being plugged in and leaving it alone for a bit. Nothing. Now we have to buy a new one after higher hopes from a name brand. Not choosing this brand again. Before you wonder what we might have done wrong or how we might have caused it, here's our side: We always kept the cardboard spacers in the tray between uses with one side clicked and button moved to 'store', the cord was/is still kept nice and neat after every use, we have no kids at home so it was never abused, we never dropped it, nothing ever fell on it. The machine just sucked (actually it had trouble doing that!). Bad. Buy. Another. Brand.
