Great kit for the field or experimentation
I'm not sure how the previous reviewer can tell the difference between this item as a current or voltage balun - maybe he disassembled it??? This bit of kit comes from Windcamp ( a known and respected Ham Radio eqpt supplier) complete and does what it says on the tin! Instead of copy and pasting from the internet - which we all know is true don't we? Just like everything printed in the papers; remember Freddy Starr and the Hamster?? Why not get out there, make use of your license, crack on with a portable station and find out for yourself instead of relying on others opinions. Building your own antenna's, even if its from pre-produced kits like this is a learning curve and before long you find yourself looking at and considering far more exotic stuff which is as much fun to build as it is to put on the air and make contacts around the world. This is a voltage balun, not a current balun. Big difference, from what my elmers tell me. Apparently there's not much point in voltage baluns in the field of ham radio, from what I've been told, and what I've read online. From dxengineering dot com: "Current baluns, rather than voltage baluns, should be used whenever possible. Current baluns provide better balance and often have lower loss. Current baluns, especially 1:1 ratio baluns, tolerate load impedance and balance variations much better than voltage baluns. Current baluns can also be used as isolators or un-un's." This product gets 10/10 in the looks department. It's stunning, the carbon fiber and aluminum finish are nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately it's not what I expected it to be, and the information online didn't really specify this. So 3/10 on functionality and 2/10 on published technical product information. I'm sad. I wanted to like this product.
