Very nice Rescue 8 and it's well made.

In case you think it won't support a person at all. Tree removal assistance using that as a friction point for a ten inch diameter branch . Weight approx. 600 lbs. Load was enough to feel the slight movement in the tree. Use a portawrap for the trunk section. No wear or even visible markings on the descender. No stretch or deformation. So hopefully anyone wouldn't be weighing over five hundred. Given the short distance traveled . Shock load was roughly 1000lbs.

This Rescue 8 has bigger horns than a lot of the competitors. Pro Climb seems like a reputable American company, trust this over Chinese copies that aren't safety rated.

This USR ProClimb belay device is a larger than normal Big 8 descender. The descender I received weighed in at 10.2oz. It is well constructed with no notable defects. It is made of Adonized Aluminium Alloy with a Max Break Strength of 9000lb. It can accept 9 - 16mm rope and has a nice continuous smooth finish free of any spurs or abrasions. This rescue or terminal 8 type descender is durable and strong. It has the standard bent-ears that is common among rescue 8s these days. This larger 8 allows you to tie off ropes and even pass a knot where ropes have been joined with little or no issues. The manufacturer advertises that this gear is 100% factory and proof tested for durability and versatility from independent laboratories such as UL to certify. Leading you to believe it is certified. While the product has a UIAA label on it .. I was not able to locate it in their database ... a quick search of the UIAA database does not show USR as a registered manufacturer or this equipment as certified. ‘No Safety Label Found’ Usually when the price is too good to be true … it is. While this gear appears to be well constructed … when you are putting your life on the line, you want to be sure it is certified to standard. I was unable to locate any warranty either in the product information or item description. I received this product in exchange for an honest review. All in all, this appears to be a well made piece of equipment. Probably very practical for various recreational uses that would not jeopardize life or risk injury. However, I would not use it for rigging during a climb. While it is a good price, I would expect to pay twice as much for certified equipment. I would be more than happy to update this review, if the manufacturer can provide proof of certification.

Way bigger than expected but it works great definitely a multi purpose tool that has helped me learn a lot about repelling.

Ok, full disclosure. I received this product free of charge in exchange for an honest review. If you've ever been through a rappel course, you've probably seen one of these. They are INCREDIBLY versatile for climbing, rappel, and rescue applications. The fist thing you notice about this '8 is the color. Its this cool metallic burnt orange. Once you get past the color, the next thing you notice is just how LARGE this one is. (I've seen ones that are literally half this size). Now, that may seem like a disadvantage, but if you are using a large diameter static rope (9mm or bigger), this actually makes it easier to use. Ditto for rescue applications, where you are using equipment with the added complications of wearing gloves- trust me, larger is better! That said, I would definitely recommend this, but I would point out that it's large size lends itself to a more industrial/rescue application than just recreational use. And, as with any piece of climbing equipment, DO NOT USE THIS WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING- YOUR LIFE COULD DEPEND UPON IT!
