Introducing Nietzsche: A Graphic Guide

I have read bits and pieces about Freddy for a few years now. Never have I read so many diverse views of any philosopher. Its impossible for me to say or judge if this book sets the record straight and gives us the "real" Nietzsche, but it was clear and concise and I think worthy of being read as an introduction to his thought. Well worth reading, perhaps before trying a few more in depth studies by those such as Walter Kaufmann. (Perhaps one day I will be able to spell Nietzsche without looking it up........)

I am now peripherally aware of a broad swathe of Nietzsche's work. I particularly liked the extra information afforded to the reader about Nietzsche's life, along with some historical context. I was also extremely glad to find that the book offers a full picture of the philosophers who influenced Nietzsche, as well as those whose work was inspired by him. After having read this publication, I feel better equipped to choose some primary sources for further reading. As an additional note, the sketches help to some extent to aid comprehension of some of the themes and make relevant links between aspects of the content.

This review refers only to the new 'A graphic Guide( Introducing)' not to be confused with the previous format and size. I was really disappointed to find a miniaturized version of the Introducing series. The whole idea of this is to make it easy to read, enjoy the graphics as they work with the text. In this new mini style the book is very tight to open, the print is too small and the graphics just don't have any impact. I'm sending it straight back and going for the previous generation that is 20.4 cm as opposed to 16.4. It may not sound a lot but makes a lot of difference if you don't want to be fighting with the book. This review is directed at the size and is no reflection on the content which I didn't bother to read as the whole format is completely uninviting to read. Now with the introduction of the Kindle and e-books, reading with a printed book should be a more tactile and visual pleasure. Reducing the size of the book I think someone at icon thought it a great idea, but probably didn't field test the format.

Great little book, easy to carry round and read.

I have tried several times to read Nietzsche and found his writings and ideas impenetrable. This graphic guide explains the themes and ideas behind Nietzsche's philosophy and writing in a simple and clear style. This is not an in depth exploration of the subject but it's not meant to be. However, after reading this guide I feel able to attempt Nietzsche once again. If like me, you have wanted to explore Nietzsche but have found his writings difficult to digest or are looking for a clear and basic guide to his ideas, Introducing Nietzsche would be an ideal place to start.

A fast-paced overview of Nietzsche's life, philosophy, influence and legacy. I'm quite familiar with Nietzsche's work, and I fancied reading this text & graphic introduction to remind myself about the man and his far-reaching thought. So I came to this book with knowledge, and I'd say it's an accessible, entertaining and fairly incisive read. The kindle edition works well - a simple double-touch on the cartoons enlarges them to readable size. Good.

The quality was as promised and it came in good time. Very pleased with my purchase.

Overall it was quite a good read and shared the central premises that Nietzsche had to give but I felt it could have done with slightly more depth and smaller pictures.

The graphic style aids understanding. Well structured too considering the ground it has to cover. And what is most useful that it links all 20th century ideas to his ideas

This book discusses Nietzsche's views on and connections with many other philosophers. Existentialism, Power/Knowledge, Deconstruction, Faith, genealogy of morals, Marxism, Madness and Postmodernism, are a few concepts viewed through Neitzsche's eyes. If you are having trouble understanding concepts related to Neitzsche, then this little book will give you an easy entry into his world. P.173 "Meanwhile, do we prefer the void as our purpose rather than be void of purpose..."

He leído varios libros de esta colección y éste de Nietzsche es uno de los que más me ha gustado. El contenido me ha parecido muy bueno, pero sobre todo me han encantado las viñetas: muy pertinentes, muy divertidas.

Ottimo volume per sintesi generale su Nietzsche

This is the second Introducing Graphic Guide I have read (Introducing Sartre was the first). These guides are a great way to quickly learn about subjects you have heard about all your life but actually know nothing about. (I learned enough about both of these philosophers to know not to bother reading any of their works. I also developed a deep sympathy for poor Nietzsche, who probably had Asperger's Syndrome or something similar. For a great philosopher, he lived a truly miserable life.) The only negative thing I can say about the guides is that I didn't like the illustrations in the Nietzsche Guide, which I found wierd, sometimes confusing, and often depressing. But then, that was what Nietsche was like!
