Review: A rock solid foundation for the beginner. - A great book for a beginner, Joe gives you a brief history of boxing, rules and regs and fantastic foundational knowledge of the sport. There is no deep technique here just good solid fundamentals. If you're looking for a more technical breakdown of movements etc check out Jack Dempsey's book. I would still recommend this book to anyone because who doesn't want a few tips from the guy who clipped the butterflies wings? read and enjoy. Review: Great purchase very recommendable. - Great book. I picked this up to get a refresher on techniques and how to workout, after not boxing for a couple of years (since the local and only gym on my Island closed some years back). And the book did exactly that. Its easy to understand and quickly read. Great purchase i would recommend to anyone willing to pick up the gloves. Involves everything from boxing history, boxing rules, how matches are scored, how to throw a jab, to Working on some basic combinations, roadwork and muscletraining. cant emphasize enough how satisfied i am with this book.

Excellent coverage of boxing fundamentals
Fundamentals of boxing, and training, are very clearly explained. Frazier not only provides excellent instruction but is also most informative about the pros / cons of different boxing styles. The latter adds much to the enjoyment of watching pro boxing.

Personally the best I have read
I have several of the other titles linked to this item, and although as already stated in previous reviews you will not be a professional boxer learning from a book. This is the best attempt at a "how to" book for boxing I have read, although he does make some topics such as diet very general and simplified (or is it because we are brain washed by supplement companies that we need more x, y & z)it is the most complete book I have read. I have trained in Karate, Muay Thai and BJJ for over 20 years and due to age and medical issue's wanted to switch to boxing for fitness and this is the only complete book/workout covering strength training (without weights) that I have found - only 1 other title covers strength training which is via weights which is very general and not what I wish to do anymore. If you are a complete beginner and not hung up with getting overly complicated with nutrition or weight training (which after all my experience and years of studying up - could be a good idea), imo this is the number 1 book to give you a basis to develope with - also gives you a conditioning workout pre entering a gym to get your base level fitness in check..I only gave it 4 starts re the title.

Learning from the absolute best
This is the best boxing manual I've read. Its hard work if you follow it, but its like learning from a true master. Plus, it was a real bargain as well!

Explains most important boxing techniques, there is also some counterpunching. On the beginning there is shortcut of boxing history so you can do some more deep research by yourself.

I have had a lifetime interest in all kinds of combat arts. During this time I have had an opportunity to read and review numerous books on boxing. This book is one of the very best texts on boxing I have read in quite a while. This book has information that is seldom covered in other "how to box books." After a thoughtful introduction, this wonderful text begins with a detailed interesting overview of the history of boxing. It explains that prizefighting may be the oldest sport in the world because it was practiced in the Olympic Games in ancient Greece. It moves to a brief history of boxing in the 1890s-1900s, to the 1920s-1940s, to the 1940s-1950s, and on to the present day boxing greats, which includes the author, Smokin Joe Frazier who was a great boxer. Joe emphasizes that YOU must willing to put in the HARD work if you truly want to be a champion. This fantastic text explains the rules of the ring, getting into good shape before you enter a boxing gym, picking the right kind of boxing gym, tools of the trade, building the boxing foundation, the basics of offense and defense, the boxer's workout, sparring, strategy, golden gloves and white-collar boxing. This book also has a detailed directory of boxing gyms in the United States. If you are seeking a book to compliment your live boxing lessons, this is an excellent book to read and study. If you are someone who takes boxing because it provides a great workout, you will also want to own this book. If you are a martial artist who desires to learn effective and practical boxing skills, this book is a must in your library. Finally, if you truly desire to be a champion boxer, you should study this book. In conclusion, this is a unique and well-written boxing book that is a pleasure to read. It has something for everyone who is interested in the sport of boxing. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Predator Hunter: A Warrior's Memoir)
