Does this shade have a plastic chassis at the bottom so you don't see the bulb if you look up?

I am afraid not. The bulb is clearly visible by looking up. Having said that, I am thrilled with these shades. They do have a very modern feel and really do change from grey to a warm yellow when they are turned on. I hope that this may help in your decision making.

Does the black one make the room dark when turned on?
