So far we have only used this to attach to the shoe. Have not needed it on the foot while barefoot. It is comfortable but not too rigid. My son is able to take a better step without dragging his toe. Definitely needs a parent to help put this on for younger kids. Fabric is comfortable and has not caused any irritation. Velcro unfortunately wore out at about one month of daily use. But it was working well enough for us that we purchased a second one. It allows for some flexibility of shoe use, where our AFO only fits in certain shoes.

We ordered this and just got it last noct. I tried to put it on my 9 year old child, and the brace BARELY fit on the foot, and didn't come even CLOSE to wrapping around the ankle area. We tried both braces on both areas. Neither side was big enough to actually velcro together around the ankle. My child isn't bigger than an average 15 year old (product is advertised as fitting 5-15.) It also didn't do anything for preventing my child from bending their ankle when we tried to use just the straps to keep it on. Don't waste your money on this if you have a child or someone who actually needs help.

Bought this item in "kids" size (kid is 6 yrs). its a lie. its only fits around the ankle if a adjust it tightly and it doesnt help with a afo drop foot/idiopathic problem since there is so much slack from the toe buckle to the brace. urge you not to buy this if your child has tiptoe problem.
