Perfect for what I require in the pool

Not water tight and therefore hopeless.
If I could give this Swimovate Unisex Poolmate2 watch ZERO stars I would. Bought as a gift for husband - his choice. First day of use it let water in - screen unreadable and therefore not useable. We dried it out slowly and it came back to life, just to do the same thing again. Complete and utter waste of money. He now has a Garmin Swim 2, whilst considerably more expensive, it works, is way more robust and actually counts swim lengths.

Basic but effective
This a great item, when you get to grips with it. A bit temperamental at first, but its more to do with getting to know which buttons to press and how hard. However, having used it for a few occasions now, I'm getting more confident with it and the data you can pull off it... albeit that you read and write it all down! With current limitations on session time, I've been able to have a play with the different settings and generally it copes with changes in strokes and training reps/laps. The only real bug=bear is the display when swimming, you just cannot read anything whilst underwater., you can only stop to read laps and time. However so long as you are happy with this then it is a capable tool. One thing which is a bit irksome was the battery level when the watch arrived. It is graduated from 1-6, and it came at only level 4 so I expect sometime in the next few months I will be sending it to Swimovate for a battery replacement which means the advertised run time is NOT accurate. Hope this helps.

It works really well.
I read many of the reviews before buying the black Poolmate 2. I was dubious because many of the negative opinions we so critical, mainly one star. I found the instructions clear, the watch straightforward to set up and operate, and it has provided me with exactly what I wanted i.e. a means to count laps, distance, time, and calories. I can now enjoy my regular swims and drift off into that lovely 'zone' without wondering how many laps I've done. I particularly like the efficiency detail, which uses the SWOLF concept to give an idea of well one swims. (I had to look up SWOLF). Finally, the cost: I don't exercise enough to justify the price of some of the alternatives that are available and I only wanted swim info, which is exactly what the Poolmate 2 provides. Very good.

It's unique but treat it as a consumable
I THINK this is the only swim watch that actually recognises and counts strokes and is really good in a pool. The cheapest one, Poolmate 2, changing the battery is the job of an expert to make sure it desn't leak afterwards. As the battery lasts about a year, I assume a new watch is an annual expenditure and if a battery change works, it's a bonus. I agree with other comments about the black version with the black background dispay being really difficult to read, especially wearing goggles, so I stick to the grey version. However my latest one has a dodgy display and is being returned. In summary, lots of niggles but its uniqueness, accuracy, convenience and price save it.

Poor quality
This watch never kept the right time, and in less than a year it started to let in water. I hardly used it but when I finally went back to swimovate they said I was just outside the 12 month warranty (so tough luck! - my edit). The watch went wrong from the start and now after 13 months is completely dead with nothing displaying... It did keeps the laps though - when it worked, (although had to wait to the end of the swim to see how many)..It's not user friendly or good quality

Just for swimming
I had messed around with a basic Fitbit that only gave you very limited statistics on my swim calories, steps ect . I wanted something that would count how many lengths and recognise stroke ect. This popped up on a search so I took a chance,I am glad I did . It logs up to 50 swims giving you how many lengths, calories, average strokes, stroke efficiency, rest time and total workout time. It’s easy to set up and easy to use. If your after a device just to measure and record your swimming data then this is it. Good value price wise wise when you compare it to other pricey fitness watches . I would definitely recommend to all you swimmers.

Misses the mark for the enthusiastic swimmer
I bought one of these to replace my Garmin Swim that leaked after I changed the battery. I’m a keen swimmer, I usually swim 2K a session 4 times a week and do a variety of strokes, sets and drills. Good points: • Price. I only paid £60 on Amazon and that seems to be the cheapest swimming watch available that will count your laps • Accuracy. It counted my laps completely accurately in a session consisting of all four strokes and with tumble-turns on crawl. The Garmin would usually miscount by a length or two over a 2K swim. • Battery. Battery life is claimed to be 2 years. Unlike the Garmin, Swimovate will change the battery for you. With Garmin you have to change the battery yourself and like many Garmin users I’ve found the watch leaks afterwards. Bad points: • The display on the Black model is very hard to see. The black version uses grey text on a black background instead of black text on a grey background that the other versions have. • Swim time for a set disappears within 3 seconds of hitting PAUSE at the end of the set. After you’ve hit Pause, your time is only displayed for 3 seconds and then the watch starts counting your rest time. There’s no way of seeing your time again unless you end the session and look in the log file. I’m completely baffled by this. For a keen swimmer the most important metric is surely the time for your set. Other information can be seen, for example strokes, calories etc, why not time? The Garmin lets you see your set time. • Total distance swam cannot be seen until you end your session. After each set you can see how far you’ve swum in metres/yards. You can also see the total number of laps you’ve swum in the session but not the total distance until you end the session. This is really annoying. If you’re aiming to swim a target distance, e.g. 2K, it’d be handy to know how far you’ve swam at any point in the session. Unfortunately the only way to do this is to multiple the total number of laps you’ve swam by the pool length. I guess this isn’t an issue if you’re good at mental arithmetic but it’s annoying. It’s even more annoying if you regularly swim in different length pools. The Garmin would show you your total session distance in metres • No Countdown timer. The Garmin has a countdown timer so when you press Start to start your set it counts down from 3 before it starts the timer. This is handy because there’s always a delay from pressing start to actually starting to swim and likewise a delay at the end of a set from finishing your last lap to pressing Pause. 3 seconds seems about right and it’s a shame this feature isn’t available the Poolmate. • No drill mode. The Garmin lets you manually enter the number of drill lengths you’ve done, Poolmate does not. This is handy as the watch only counts laps when you’re moving your arms so kick drills aren’t automatically counted. Summary If you’re a regular swimmer looking for a watch to count your laps because you keep forgetting how many you’ve done then this watch is a good option. However, if you’re a keen swimmer then look elsewhere as this watch misses the mark for the more enthusiastic swimmer.

this is the best lap counting watch I've gotten to use
Overall, this is the best lap counting watch I've gotten to use. I've had not issues, easy to set up, easy to use, and counts laps very accurately. I love it. Pros: More accurate lapcount than other watches I've owned Easy to set up & get going Cons: - Won't work with kick laps (it goes off the swing of your arm) - Small, but I guess that can be considered a pro too, as it's less resistant.

Dead Battery on arrival
Purchased this watch for my wife who is a competitive swimmer. When it arrived it was not working. No matter what we did it did not work. We considered returning it but then had it checked out. It turns out they shipped it with a dead battery. Surely they can do better and do a simple check to see it the watch is working before it is shipped. Also we had to take on the extra expense of getting the battery replaced. Hopefully it will continue to work as it had to be opened up and after the battery replacement closed back up.
