Has anyone tried using the replacement filter with other water bottles? Do you just put water in the bottle and then drop this in?

Easy to use no instruction however from prior experience it's been suggest to let sit for 20 minutes. I reside near a major city and a VERY a noticable change of taste. During a major water crisis earlier this year this item was DEFINITELY a life saver!
