Unit arrived in time. But now I am unsure how suitable this item is. Advertised for keeping important documents and valuables safe for 30 min from fire and water. It is not a safe which I understood when I purchased it as although heavy it is portable and it's lock not very robust. I purchased it to preserve important documents in the event of a house fire but on opening the safe the instructions advise that due to the insulation has a high moisture content certain delicate items such as jewelry with working parts, watches, stamps or photos are recommended to be stored in airtight containers. As I bought this to store documents I contacted SentrySafe for advise as to what they sell to cover this or what they recommend but even after making a second request via the online form I have had no reply so I assume no such product is available for A4 size documents. Masterlock units are made by the same company and have had people complaining of mould appearing on documents after a short period.

The SentrySafe Fireproof Safe Box is a good option if you're looking for a sturdy fireproof box to store your important documents, photos, and other small items in. The box is heavy, but portable and easily carried, thanks to handle on the side. The box locks securely, comes with two keys, and has a very simple design. Like most fire safes, it is prone to breaking open when dropped from heights because these boxes are engineered to withstand extreme heat, not high-impact kinetic force. I haven't tried dropping this box from a height, but because fire safes are designed to ward off heat and not falls, it's recommended to store the box on lower levels or in basements to keep it from falling from an upper level. If that is not logic enough for you, keep in mind that heat rises, so you'd want to keep the box on lower levels. The box opens and closes smoothly using the included keys, feels thick and durable, and while I can't say how effective it is because my house has not burned down (and I hope I never have to test this), this safe seems perfectly good as is. It's a great value box that will hopefully keep all your important documents safe during a fire.
