Horstmann H27XL Programmer, Multi

Very easy to use to replace previous similar models. We inherited an older one of the same model which I found very difficult to use: the buttons took a very long time to react, and every time there was a tiny power cut or surge the device would lose the programming which had taken me ages to enter. Eventually I realised that the internal battery, which is non-replaceable, must be dead, because it was supposed to be able to keep its programming during power cuts. To replace it with the new programmer was simple as the existing backplate with the wiring simply plugs into the back of the new one. It is a very strong fit, so you need to apply a fair amount of leverage to get the old one off and need to press the new one on firmly until it has fully engaged. Like most multi function devices these days the ability to write clear unambiguous instruction booklets lags some way behind the intelligence of the device itself, so it takes a bit of trial and error to become familiar with it. Fortunately as I was no longer struggling with worn-out buttons and a dead internal battery, putting in the settings I wanted was much quicker than with the old device. Hopefully, since the device should no longer keep losing its settings I won't have to set the timings again for quite a while.

Bought this to replace an earlier version which only had a 7 day setting (same setting each day). The new one lets you set every day of the week different, which is what I wanted. So easy to fit as well, Old one unplugged, new one plugged straight in. Up and running in 10 mins! Worth the cost and I sold the old one on 'you know where'!

Easy to use and easy to fit

Bought this to replace a broken unit fitted by the builders. Had same unit in previous house too. Completely independent programming of hot water and heating channels. Manual, boost, advance and holiday functions. Can copy settings across multiple days to save time. Takes a bit of navigation through the menus but very easy to program once you get used to what the buttons do. Very pleased with what it does. Just be aware that the contacts between the backplate and the programmer are very tight as supplied and it takes a forceful tug to get the unit off again once fitted (which is what stumped the builders!).

Just works. Good value. Has 3 month battery backup to cover power cuts unlike the original H27.

Easy to fit

A power fault on the UK power network blew the last one up in a puff of smoke and a loud bang! I had an older plug-compatible model (other brand) that I put into service temporarily. This arrived within a few days and the swap-out took only minutes. Easy to use, easy to program. Best I have ever tried.

Good service . Clock works ok. Second one I've used in my own heating system. Pity about the internal battery in the old one. Thats the reason i had to buy the new one.
