They are written in a comic book style and the kids love them. Review: Beautiful as Always - Every one of the books in this series is beautifully illustrated and the facts check out when compared with other sources. Kids love them especially because the device of keeping the title character illustrated as a child helps them stay engaged throughout. I highly recommend this book.

Great Series for Young Readers
This book is part of a very good series for young readers introducing them to significant and inspirational figures from America's story. The books are accessible, well illustrated and provide a great thumbnail sketch of the people and roadblocks surmounted who went on to do first/great things. We have not only the Harriet Tubman book, but also ones on Lincoln, Einstein, Helen Keller, Jackie Robinson, Amelia Earhart and one or two others. The books also pave the way for discussing some of the not so cheery parts of America's past like slavery, racism, and the second-class status of women. My six and four year old girls enjoy these and frequently pick one from a pile of books to for bedtime story time.

Truly an Amazing Story Everyone Should Know
We purchased this book because we had a few extra bucks that we needed to spend to get a great black-friday deal, or something like that. We had one other book from the series, so I knew the general theme that the author and illustrator use. We selected this book in particular frankly because it was one of the cheaper options and I hoped it would be fun to learn about someone I knew nothing of other than vaguely recognizing her name. I had no idea that reading her story to my 3-year-old boy, including what she went through, would quickly turn me into a sobbing mess. Saying out loud how she was treated, especially at such a young age, while holding my boy in my arms was simply too much. And then how she put herself in harm's way as an adult to help others around her and was such an amazing example of who we should all strive to be... almost unbelievable! I think I should be proud to be even a tenth as courageous as she was. Her story needs to be shared and sung throughout the US and the world. Thank you, Brad Meltzer and Christopher Eliopoulos, for writing and illustrating this amazing, touching, and important story with such delicacy and finesse.

Books are always a nice present
Disclaimer: I’ve written the same review to almost all the books on this series. My daughter and son loves them. Been purchasing the whole series for a few months now. Super easy readings for kids, even for the 20-min trip between house and school. Interesting lives, and you can later discuss the story with the kids. I have found that most of them (stories) stick to their minds, even recalling full names and events a few weeks/months later.

Another nice biography for children
My 8 year old grandson has enjoyed all the biographies by Brad Meltzer for kids. This one prompted many questions about slavery and a lot of empathy on my grandson's part.

Wonderful and Moving
Great books for young readers. I bought for my 18-month old to read to her-- she's too young for the format of the book but I'm sure I can modify the story to keep her attention. This books carries a valuable message about escaping horror, courage and helping others do the same. I hope my daughter learns from these wonderful and strong historical women.
