Compact, powerful, gentle fan
This is exactly what I needed for use under my desk in the colder months here in California. It is silly to run the heat for the whole house when it is chilly out in the winter. And yes, it gets cool-ish in Socal - cold days are in the low 50's or even the high 40's during the day, and you can knock 10-20 degrees off those figures at night. That's not freezing, but it is cool enough to warrant turning on the heat. This little wonder is exactly the right thing for this. I can use it on under my desk to keep my feet warm, and raise the temp in this corner where my desk is (in front of a large, drafty sliding door) to make it comfy to work in bare feet (my preference) year-round. A remote was a requirement, and for the price this flimsy, cheap remote is fine. Note that you will need a CR2505 battery for the remote, which is not included. Note that when you go to install your battery, you need to use a tiny screwdriver to remove a screw first before you can pop out the battery tray. I picked this up on sale for the ridiculous price of about $17. Hard to beat that. Definitely getting more than my money's worth here. Recommended.

Temperature adjustment buttons do not work
I am zero for two on these. Both of the ones I have tried did not have a functioning temperature adjustment button. Neither the up or the down arrows work. The heater puts off a lot of heat, but since I can’t set the temperature, it’s basically useless.

Keeps my office toasty and it’s very small
Super portable. I was surprised at how sort it was! Will blow air, will heat, and oscillates if you want it to. It has a little flimsy remote that I haven’t used (yet) in fact, I may have lost it?! In any case, it’s gray for keeping a small room warm.

Overall, a pretty solid little heater that puts out a lot of heat for a medium sized room
I feel that with my 250 sq. foot room, it heats it up pretty solid and pretty quick. In fact, I rarely use the full heat setting, and instead use the low (low or high options are all there is). I feel pretty warm with the heater pointed towards me and a few feet away. It heats up pretty quick, even on that low setting. The higher heat setting feels a bit too hot for my needs, but it is good to have to heat up the room even quicker, or if it was even lower temps in the winter, that is powerful heat. One CON so far: I don't like how when you turn on the heater, it defaults to just the blowing fan, so there is no heat if you don't select that option to turn on the low heat first, or press again for the higher heat. It bugs me, because you have to remember to hit that heater button after turning it on. I think of it being a scenario where someone in the house uses the heater to start heating up a room, but only turn it on, forgetting about the requirement to select the heater...and if they think they set it to start heating up the room and then walk out, they will return to a colder room than before because only a fan is blowing. SMH. I don't know why there is only up to 24 minutes for a timer...once you get to 24, if you keep pressing the up/increase button, it starts over to 0, so only up to 24 minutes. It's not that big of a deal though, because I would say that it can heat up a small room in that timeframe pretty easily, from let's say 60 F up to 70 F in that time frame on just the low heat option. Another CON is how the remote doesn't come with the dang battery, so I had to buy a CR2025 battery, despite also having other coin-style batteries for other devices. I wish it could just be a slightly thicker controller and use one or two AAA batteries or something, but oh well, it's a pretty small remote. Hopefully doesn't get lost either because of the remote's size. Otherwise, I like how small but how hot it gets, even for its size. The rotation function is nice if you feel a bit too hot with it blowing in your direction, directly. So, it will oscillate a bit, like some fans do. I don't recall the rotation degrees, but it's fine. Do I recommend this heater? Yes, for the pricepoint, I do, but I did get it for around $30.00. I wouldn't be able to say for sure at a price much above that...I do trust the overall quality of Black & Decker though, so I expect it will last for some years to come, where that price point makes it seem a bit more solid of a recommendation too.

Returning - not as expected
My trusty, years-old space heater fan died a few days ago so I needed a replacement. I tried this one (13.5 inch version) and unfortunately the unit I received was defective and also difficult to use. Pros: -It does work and, on high, puts out a decent amount of heat. Was able to raise the temp of a small ~90 sq ft bedroom/office about 10 degrees in about 15 mins. -Temp gauge on the front is nice as you can see ambient temp and adjust as desired -It has a tip protection, BUT it's smart enough that if you pick it up to move if a few inches, it doesn't shut off like my old one did -Remote is a bonus, although it's a bit tacky that the battery is not included. Cons - It's meant to have an adjustable thermostat, but the up/down buttons don't work on the heater or the remote. So I can turn it on or off, set low or high, but I can't set it to a specific temperature - Low setting is pretty weak...in the 90sq ft room, it could not even maintain temp - temperature dropped while it was running on low. - It's a bit cumbersome to turn on and off. My old heater had two dials, one for the temperature and one for High/Low/Fan/Off, and that's it. To use it, you flip one dial to turn on. This one, One button to turn it on (to FAN mode), a different button to toggle Low/High heat, then the up/down buttons (in theory) to set the desired temperature. Way more effort!

Poorly made, no battery for remote, strange features
I thought B&D meant above-average (decent) quality, but in spite of other glowing reviews, I don't find this heater to be very well made. Lasko heaters are more reliable and have better features. CONS: The front panel doesn't work well (buttons are flaky) Temperature buttons do not work at all - temperature can only be set with the remote The remote control came without a battery, but they included that little clear protective plastic tab that you pull out to "engage" the (non-existent) battery. Psyche! Battery replacement is a pain - you need a jewelers screwdriver kit to open the remote's battery compartment. Timer is a maximum of 24 minutes. Why 24? Not very practical. PRO: Compact size Puts out a decent amount of heat for a small heater Oscillation mode works well Fan is fairly quiet The heater has a standard 1-year warranty. I should have just sent it back to Amazon, but the 30 days had passed (I had to buy a battery and then time passed before I remembered to really spend time with it). So, I called Black and Decker about issues, but customer "support" wasn't very helpful. Basically they said it should be replaced, but I would need to ship it to them. It is not worth the cost of shipping to replace a $30 heater that doesn't work very well anyway. Lessons (hopefully) learned: If something seems "off" or "weird", just send it back! If a remote control doesn't include the battery, send it back! If customer support is unhelpful, send it back! Make sure to test/evaluate purchases within Amazon's terrific "free returns" timeframe so you don't have to rely on customer support or warranty service!

Up and down control buttons did not work!!!
I disliked that the up and down control buttons didn't work manually. Each and every other button performed great. Heat flow "terrific", oscillating feature "perfect". When on heat setting, I watched the temp go up and up and up. No matter how lite or heavy I pressed on the control buttons the heat intensity got hotter and hotter. Overall, I received (2) identical heaters. Amazon suggested I contact Black and Decker to troubleshoot the issue. I contacted Black and Decker when the replacement was just as faulty as the first. They were referring me back to Amazon. I just hung the phone up. Very disappointing. Black and Decker customer service sucked!!! BTW, the battery for the remote IS NOT INCLUDED.
