Top quality thread files - thread count error in product description
Lang makes great tools, including some OEM for Snap-On. These are no exception. This is a top quality thread file set.Unfortunately there is a critical error in the Product Description, hence 4 stars. The fine SAE file includes a 32 TPI section, NOT 30 TPI as listed in the description (as of May 2025). The product images do show the correct 32 TPI - the 30 TPI error is in the summary product description only.32 is a standard thread count and most folks would never need a file for an oddball thread count like 30. Unless you happened to buy these thinking you could clean up the 1/4-30 Enfield Pattern striker threads on a pre-WW1 SMLE. In that case you’d be sadly disappointed. But you’d eventually get over it and happily move forward with a great set of thread files that would serve you well on the majority of fasteners most folks are likely to ever encounter.

Very good quality for the price
I debated between buying this set of files and buying some made by another company. I had never even heard of Lang Tools and I already owned a file from the other manufacturer so I was familiar with their quality. What swayed my purchase is that these were actually made here in the US (vs the other company which used to manufacture in the US and doesn't any longer) and they were less expensive than the other set. Given the price point though, I wasn't sure what kind of quality to expect.I must say I was pleasantly suprised and impressed with the quality. Some background: I was a jet engine mechanic in a former life and I also do most of my own maintenance on my motorcycle so I know my way around a tool box. And I know how to tell a quality tool from a crap one as well as which tools it's worth spending money on for good quality. Files absolutely fall into the category of 'spend the money for quality' because a shitty file will ruin whatever it's used on. Are these files as good as having a tap and die set for thread repair? Well, no. But a good tap and die set will liberate considerably more money from your wallet too. Are these files worth having on hand for when you encounter bunged threads that just need a little dressing up? Absolutely.

Could be better.
Works for dressing surface threads. Not good for down deep.
