Gillette Venus Deluxe Smooth Platinum Razors for Women, 1 Venus Razor, 2 Razor Blade Refills, Metal Handle with Anti-Slip Grip

I realize the metallic Venus Platinum Cartridge razor is marketed as a woman's razor but I use it instead as a man's MACH3 Cartridge razor (see photos). See "Details" for useful technical information of interest to anyone considering this razor. My wife exclusively uses the Venus Extra Smooth Blade Cartridges and is amazed how smoothly they shave her legs. She prefers using the standard all plastic Venus razor with these cartridges because of the plastic razor's significantly lighter weight which makes it easier for her to control and therefore has less likelihood of razor nicks. An ergonomic light weight razor is well suited to shave a woman's sparse fine leg hair. When I lost my MACH3 razor while on vacation, I discovered my wife's standard plastic Venus razor can also fit the men's MACH3 cartridges! The splendid ergonomic shape of the Venus razor fits a hand better than ANY custom MACH3 razor I have ever used (e.g. Parker Premium White Resin Handle Men's Razor )! The only drawback in using the women's plastic Venus razor as a man's MACH3 razor was that it is extremely light weight (similar to a plastic disposable razor). A heavier weight razor is better at shaving a man's dense heavy beard. When my wife saw this $8 deal on the heavier all metal Venus Platinum razor, she immediately ordered it because I get to keep the solid metal Venus Platinum razor as a MACH3 Cartridge razor for myself and my wife uses the included two Venus Extra Smooth Cartridges as refills for her standard plastic Venus razor. Details: The Venus Platinum razor is made of a satin finished solid metal handle that has a 56g weight which is more than enough weight needed to shave dense thick hairs and use as a MACH3 razor. The standard Gillette MACH3 metallic razor currently weighs about 45g (the original version weighed 50g) and all custom men's MACH3 razors weigh over 60g (some almost 100g) but in this case the Venus Platinum's medium weight is well matched with its ergonomic features. The combination of 5 inch length, weight, and ergonomics makes this razor much easier to accurately control in the hand than heavier razors while still providing the needed heft to smoothly shave a dense beard. The ergonomic details of the handle's slightly arched shape and flattened pommel are perfect for a palm's grip. The textured rubber surfaces on the metal handle provide excellently placed finger-grips for use with wet hands. The back of the handle has an ergonomic rubber ridge near the top of its spine that provides precise control of the razor by functioning as either an index-finger-rest or a thumb-rest while shaving. The razor's cartridge-latch mechanism holds cartridges very securely attached and the offset head angles the cartridge well to avoid nicks while shaving varying contours such as a face or neck. Though Venus cartridges use the same identical cartridge-latch mechanism as the older MACH3 cartridge product line, Venus cartridges are a wider cartridge and the razor's correspondingly larger head-width is the only clue the Venus Platinum razor was not intended for use as a MACH3 Cartridge razor (see photos). Summary: Gillette should make a men's version of this razor tailored for the MACH3 cartridges. Until then, the women's Venus Platinum razor is THE VERY BEST ERGONOMIC MEN'S MACH3 CARTRIDGE RAZOR AVAILABLE AT ANY PRICE. Luckily my wife doesn't like the razor's significant additional weight or else I wouldn't get to keep it for myself!

I bought the Gillette Venus Platinum Extra Smooth Metal Handle Razor with 2 Refills for $10.97 ($12.97 minus the $2.00 coupon offered on Amazon). As my daughter and I often mix up our supplies, I was motivated to find a Venus razor with an appearance distinctively different from the regular blue one. Also, this one just looked super cool. Totally my style. Finally, a razor blade that doesn't look like a favor handed out at a Pink Sweet 16 Party. Once it arrived, I was happy to see that it has a solid metal appearance. It's not hallow plastic wrapped in a cheap silver foil. It actually seems like stainless steel and has some weight to it. After a month of regular use, the razor has maintained its original appearance. The Extra Smooth is now my #1 favorite blade type. It gives a super close shave. I have to use high quality razors and maintain aseptic technique (Eg: Change blades frequently, use different blades for body versus bikini region) as my skin is prone to ingrown hairs and razor burn. This blade works soooo well on my super sensitive skin! Much more so than the Venus "Sensitive" Blades. Even when I'm "speed shaving" in the early morning, I rarely slice my skin up with this blade. It also seems to dry well in between uses. As with all other Venus blades, I haven't been successful in getting the enclosed suction cup holder to work. It always falls down, regardless of the material I place it on. Instead, I place it vertically in my shower organizer caddy in order to allow it to fully dry in between uses.

I was looking for something that I could replace the disposable razors I would usually get at Walmart. I really like this razor more than I thought I would. The metal handle makes it have a nice weight to it and it’s comfortable to hold. The shave is very smooth and close, as well. Compared to all the other five blade razors I’ve used this one takes the cake. Definitely worth the money.

I'm only reviewing the handle itself. I haven't used the blades that came with it- but I use several different types of the venus blades and love them all. First impression, love the handle. It feels weighty and of good quality. I have been using venus for years and this is by far the best feeling handle they've made. It had what appears to be silicon on the underside of handle for gripping and another section towards head of handle. I don't know how well it will stay on the suction holder that typically comes with venus razors only because it's heavier than the normal pink ones. Which leads to why I left 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish it had some type of tray or silicone mat to lay it on after use. Their razor blades don't come with a clear snap on blade cover so you would just have to lay in down on tub/shower rim. So I say if you love venus razor blades then this handle it a no brainer. Great upgrade for sure.

I've used this razor for years. It's really nice - still looks just like how it came out of the package. I've never had issues with it slipping, it's light and easy to use, and the blades are so easy to replace. These particular blades are very soft and smooth, but they're pretty much like all the other Venus blades.

I’m a guy, and use this on my neck and chest! It is by far the smoothest shaving razor I’ve ever used, and I’ve tried them all! At first I didn’t think it was even shaving, but I lifted the razor up and it didn’t miss a hair! You can’t even feel it cutting the hairs! Just feels like your gliding a bar of soap across your skin! It’s really that smooth! It’s a little hard to shave up against a beard line, but it’s not made for that! I use a nice sharp safety razor for that purpose! Also, the weighty, rubberized, solid metal handle feels great in the hand! I love it!!

Love the look and the feel of this razor. It has a great weight in your hand with nice rubber grips, and gives super smooth shave. I prefer the blades it came with(less juice) but can use your Venus blades as you wish Great product Great choice! A++

Great shaver. I love the wide blades, as it keeps me from knicking myself! They are of excellent quality and I can use the same blade for like six months. They stay sharp! Very impressive.

I love everything about this razor. First and foremost, I was thrilled to find a Venus line razor with a metal handle. Despite the unnecessary amount of plastic packaging it comes in, the metal handle has weight to it and is wonderfully sturdy and of great quality; it really feels like it will last a lifetime and as such, I did not feel guilty buying it despite its more expensive price tag compared to the plastic Venus handles. As for the slipping that so many people have mentioned before me, I have not once had this issue. This handle actually sits in the hand very comfortably no matter what angle I hold it at, and overall I find it easier to grip than the plastic ones, thanks to the rubber pieces being placed in just the right areas. As for the blades themselves, to put it bluntly: I have never had a closer shave in my life. I only need to go over an area once and then I am on to the next. They leave my legs feeling beautifully soft and well moisturized; I have not had to apply lotion after shaving with the blades that this handle comes with. With that being said, I like that the attachment on the handle is compatible across the various Venus brand variety of blades. Although I can't imagine myself straying from the ones that came in this package, it is nice to know that I would not need to buy an entire new set - I can pick whatever blades I choose. But that goes for any Venus handle you purchase.

Amazing! I wasn't expecting to find a metal handle! I've had my old, plastic Venus for years and finally dropped it on some tile the wrong way. It snapped and became somewhat dangerous to use. This metal handle is compatible with the heads I bought from Costco and seems very sturdy! The materials is environmentally friendly (even though the packaging isn't) and it should last for decades! My only complain is that it's heavier than the plastic one, but I think that's expected!
