Colonial Needle 45mm Rotary Blade Sharpener, Multicolored (5790)

I was doubtful that this cutter was worth the price. I decided to give it a try because my first pack of titanium blades cost way more than I expected. I went through my first blade in no time, it started skipping really early on, and skipping threads with a rotary cutter is a big pain, as I'm sure all will agree. So I tested my new sharpener, I did about 20 turns on the each side and did not try the blade for a few days. Wow! I'm really impressed with the performance of my sharpened blade. I can honestly say that the newly sharpened blade has cut more than twice as much as the original edge put on by Olfa, and it's still going strong. This is very surprising, it's working far better than I had hoped it would. At the price of replacing blades the cost was almost prohibitive, and I considered going back to using scissors. 1'm making masks to donate so replacing blades so often really increases the total cost. If you're skeptical about this, give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

If you use a rotary cutter, you know how important it is to have a sharp blade...the price of new blades are a bit high, but with this 45mm Rotarty Blade Sharpener by Colonial Needle, the blades last a lot longer than without! Easy to use. I have had it a couple months and used it right away on all my old blades. It does a super job at sharpening the blade, I would say about 75%...which is pretty good, I think. I am very happy with this purchase and seller!

I cut a lot of material and rotary blades are expensive so I wanted to try to revive the dull blades I had before buying more. This sharpener is quite pricy for a couple of pieces of plastic and I was dubious about how well it would work but was pleasantly surprised that it sharpened my blades pretty well and pretty quickly. It comes in different sizes so be sure to order the one that fits your blades. Instruction wise, 4 stars, as it wasn’t all that clear from the instructions on the packaging but I was able to find a video online and followed that. The plastic seems like it will be pretty durable and it remains to be seen how long the grit will last for, but so far my friend and I have sharpened several blades - not getting a “new” blade feel but pretty good - it wears down the edges to create a sharp edge so I’m assuming there will be a limit to how many times you can sharpen one blade? However, it saved me $$ and I like that I can reuse old blades for a while longer.

I have already re-sharpened a blade 3 different times to good-as-new condition!! I also re-sharpened a blade my friend had seriously dulled cutting tons of denim, and it's perfect again! The sharpener is definitely easy to use, and I just saw from other comments that there is a video, so that might be worth checking out. I make sure to put a little water on the sharpening surfaces, rotate the blade in the same direction on the sharpener, and apply slight pressure as I turn until I don't hear/feel any resistance, about 15 spins. Well worth the little bit of time and effort to save $ on blades, and ensures you have a fresh, sharp edge any time you want without running out to the store. My biggest problem is that I forget how to put my rotary cutter back together again!

I did not recognize this as a product I had bought some years ago from a local quilt store. I should have returned it and the 60mm both.The design is awkward, and the execution is worse. It is difficult to use, and does not sharpen well even if you can get it to rotate evenly. There are 2 different grits on the surfaces, but no information on which is first and which is second. Would never buy again.

It's not very convenient to use and I can't see that it makes a difference in the blade sharpness.

This is just what I needed. I'm new to crafting and had bought a rotary cutter that went dull within the first 3 uses, cutting layered fabrics. I went out and bought replacement blades, and the sames thing happened. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but anyways, I went on YouTube and saw some saying to fold and cut some strips of aluminum foil. Didn't work. Then saw a video with a woman using this sharpener. Ordered and tried it. It sharpened my original blade that I kept, and the other 2 replacement blades. Now, I can cut again!! Woot woot. And I don't have to go out buying so many replacement blades. Cause they're expensive. Thanks!
