- Who's In My Family?: All About Our Families (Let's Talk about You and Me)

Another great book by this author! This book covers all different kinds of family structures -- including our own -- which is what we were hoping for. One thing I'd change is that there is a line that says "Children are born into their families or adopted into their families." I've recently learned that sometimes children who were adopted don't realize that they were born FIRST, and THEN they were adopted. I wish that sentence made it more clear that all children are born, and didn't set it up as an either/or (born/adopted). Even a very small change might help clarify this, like: "Children are born into their families or adopted into their families after they're born." There's another page where the author doesn't quite hit the nail on the head -- the sentence is, "Some children live with their mommy part of the the time and with their daddy part of the time." While that's certainly true, I'd make this even more inclusive by rephrasing it to "Some children live with one parent part of the the time and with their other parent part of the time." I know of some same-sex couples who split custody of their children, so this revised sentence would also include them. These are fairly picky points. Overall, I really do like this book, as well as others by this author.

Our boys really love this book. We purchased it when they were 2 yrs old but they really got into it when they were around 3yr. Now they are 3.5 yr and they want to read it when they wake up, during the day, before they go to bed, basically anytime. Since they have two moms they like to find the page with the two moms on it and let us know that is their family and then they tell us about the rest of the families in the book (we have read it A LOT :)) and they also love to tell us about the different places families live and where they live, etc. We searched and searched for books to teach our boys about families (they are hard to find) and came upon this wonderful book. This is a great book for kids and I would recommend this book to everyone.

Very inclusive and matter-of-fact. Love that it includes same-sex parents, single parents, foster parents, separated/divorced parents, kids that are born or adopted into families, kids who live with relatives, etc etc without any sort of judgement. Love that it addresses how some families all look similar and some don't. Love that the family featured is interracial- like ours- since that is weirdly not present in a lot of books. Great illustrations, perfect for toddlers to get involved in the book and point out all of the different families, places, animals, and objects (my 1.5 year old loves doing this). I wish it came in Spanish, but otherwise no complaints. So easy to build upon the text to talk about families of all structures and nuances.

Great book about all kinds of families! There is a page that has lines discussing stepparents and step families. This is why we bought it and our 5 year old liked this book. There’s a lot of detail in the illustrations and lots of kids depicted. He was interested in looking at everything. When it came to the stepparent blurb he immediately said “like us!” We were happy he was able to connect with the story in that way. Having books like these has really made a difference in helping understand that other families are like ours.

This book shows all types of families, including multicultural families, gay families, interracial families and other types of families. The book also shows the breakfast each family has and how they are different. It is suitable for toddlers and preschoolers.

We first took this book out of the library and after reading it many times I decided we should own it. It's a great way to expose children to families, people and ways of life that are different from what they know. We want to make sure our daughter is open minded and aware that we are all equal regardless of our skin color, sexual orientation, or family make up. This book is a great way to introduce that idea to children in an age appropriate way. And, our three year old loves it. I highly recommend it.

We got this for a five year old who was really having trouble with understanding the concept of not only who is in the family but also who is not, and it was very very helpful and a delightful read. Examines nontraditional families, twins, different races... And each page has tons of adorable animals that the five year old turned into a game to see who could find the most.

A bit wordy and not rhyming or such so we will see how my little one likes it, but this book does a wonderful job of being very inclusive. I have friends with triplets, two mommies, single parent, adopted child/ren, interracial families and other family types/qualities that are hard to find in a childrens book. This book has everything.

This is everything I wanted to express and its do interactive with discovering the artwork. Worth exploring with your kid(s)

This book is GREAT. As a student, who has been studying inclusion and diversity in the early years I have found this book to be really helpful in explaining family structures in a calm, chilled manner. It doesn't make a big deal out of various family types, so this helps children to value this and appreciate the different types of families. Really, really good. The pictures are lovely and encourage a lot of discussion with the children.
