Works great, low cost. If it's not working TRY A POWERED USB HUB
I got this drive today, initially, I plugged it directly into a port on the front of my PC. Device manager did recognize it, but when I put a disc in, it would freak out and keep getting removed/reinsterted from device manager. I was disappointed, until I remembered that I was likely dealing with a device that required a fairly decent amperage draw, likely beyond that provided from a standard USB port. I plugged the drive into my powered USB hub and voila! It works as expected. Drive is detected as a Pioneer BD-RW BDR-UD02D, and is set to the US region AFAIK. I would not attempt a firmware update, as the firmware is likely a hacked version of the pioneer firmware, as I'm fairly certain the internal hardware is not provided by Pioneer. Nonetheless, the drive performs well for the price.

Doesn't load basic CD contents, and smells like someone's home
This external "Yaeonku External CD DVD Drive" drive fails to even detect any data from just a basic CD. I tried USB 3.0, as it's designed to utilize, and I tried 2.0. I tried multiple ports on my custom (Ryzen 3900X) gaming rig as well as a backup Dell Precision 5510. Windows DOES detect the drive, and it auto installs the necessary driver, but the contents of a CD don't load. I tried multiple CD's just to test it, and all failed. The primary CD is brand new and spotless, no scratches. I hate how I sound saying this, because working in IT doesn't automatically make you actually tech-savvy... but I've worked in IT for over a decade and I assure you I did all the usual troubleshooting steps. Also, it sounds horrible. It's a typical high-pitch electrical squeal noise in combination with the drive's head spazzing out trying to read the CD. Not only does it fail to load any data from basic CD R's, but it smells like someones home. If I open the drive I get a whiff of the smell, and if I let it run for a few mins while it tries to read a CD, the drive heats up a little and the smell is much stronger. It's akin to a mothball smell, sort of; it doesn't smell like any warehouse or factory I've ever been in. Bottom line: maybe I got a lemon, all I know is the drive doesn't load CD's and I really needed it tomorrow morning to read a car service manual for a repair job on my car. This is very unfortunate. I'm getting a refund and will have to figure something out for reading the CD. ****I'm including a video of the drive's noises while it attempts to read a CD. Please ignore my desk mess, it's a secondary desk for IT stuff.****

This will write to a blu-ray disc
This will write to a blu-ray disc. The listing sort of says that on the graphics, but is very cryptic in the text, making this seem like a scam trying to sell you a blu-ray reader that will not write. It does, in fact, write to blu-ray discs. I downloaded a free disc-writing program, plugged this in to my pc, and it wrote a disc with no problem. Strangely, as others have said, it will not read a disc without a powered usb outlet, meaning you need a usb splitter that plugs into the usb port on your computer as well as having its own power supply that plugs into a power outlet. When set up like that this thing works flawlessly, but without the powered usb port, it will not read data from a disc, or even load a dvd.

worth the extra money
I bought this and at first I made a mistake; it only plays Blu-rays? I was wrong. It plays DVDs as well. Which is good because the cheap DVD player I bought later crapped out in a week. Turns out I just needed to update my app. This thing plays the discs that crappy player freaked out about.

Great Drive, but not exactly plug & play...
The Blu Ray Drive Was Just As Described!! It Arrived In PERFECT Condition And It Was Shipped Quickly And Packaged Very Well! However in my experience, it's not just a simple plug and play situation...the drive was recognized with no problem on my older desk top Dell 790, but my VLC player did not play a Blu Ray without some tweaking...I had to watch a YouTube tutorial video, create a folder in my program data files, and add a file to my VLC player for playback!! It all worked fine after that, and it wasn't really that difficult to do (just a little time consuming)...I tried the software they recommended as well, but it didn't work and seemed like you had to purchase additional software? Anyway, My VLC media player is free and works great now after the simple modifications!! Please contact me on Amazon if you need more information or have any questions!! Rick :)

Don't Use a Hub
This external CD/CD ROM/CD RW/CD R player is fine when it works. It is rather picky as to what port you plug into and prefers being plugged directly into a USB port on the computer or laptop. It is not always detected, and you have to unplug/replug it several times (but not all the time). Since many devices only have 2-3 USB ports, I have a USB Hub attached, and the player doesn't always work through the hub. It is time consuming to unplug all the other stuff, like your mouse and printer in order to use directly in the PC/laptop. Its cord is too short to place it anywhere but right next to the computer. I believe its compatibility is universal to all USB ports. But when it works, it is quiet and easy to use.

This is fake Description. The unit i received was just a DVD drive. To my bad luck, I trusted that i might have gotten the correct unit, but unfortunately I checked the unit after the return window was closed.
