Manual is doesn't really give you all on how to use it correctly.

Nice lightweight little scanner. Scans most chip manufacturers: Datamars, AKC Reunite, BuddyID,FoundAnimals registry, Home Again, 24Pet, PetKey and Fi, However, this scanner will NOT scan Avid or Trovan microchips, so buyer beware! I like this scanner to keep in my car. Charges via C-port which is convenient. It's very hard, if not impossible, to find an inexpensive microchip scanner that scans all chips. If someone knows of one, please advise! I'd recommended this scanner for people who do rescue, keeping in mind the fact that Avid and Trovan chips won't be detected.

My husband & I foster occasionally, but the past two months we’ve come across three strays so we decided to just purchase a scanner instead of running to the shelter every time. We tested it on our two dogs — both chipped within the past 4 years — and it immediately picked up both numbers! We ran it over our kitten, who we know is not yet chipped, and nothing! We also tested it on one stray to find out they do not have a chip — they’re now our foster! It’s affordable and does its job. I did think it was a little funny someone had returned it, because it had a chip already scanned three times within its history, but whatever. Still works so I’m cool with it.

This is a great scanner, however we have an older kitty (6 animals total), his chip is not scannable with this chip reader due to the type of chip he has. Other than that all of our animals chips were readable.

I figured out the string of numbers that stores on the device is the only data you're gonna get. You have to put that number into a website for the chips registry. Then it comes back with barely any information. I think vets have more access to data from the registry. For a home user this is only useful to verify the chip is in there. But it only found the chips in my cats and not in my dogs.
