Very nice, well made unit, sensitive to radiation
The ranger is a very nicely built unit, and it includes both a protective rubber boot and a carrying case with belt clip. It also has a plastic stand base and wrist lanyard. The unit is very easy to use, and the screen's easy to read. It have various display modes such as CPM, mR/hr, micro Sv/hr, etc. Note that everything other the CPM may be wildly wrong for anything other than Cesium 137 for which it was calibrated. I also bought a uranium sample to use for testing/demonstration. It came in a metal container with a certification document from "Images SI Inc." stating that they tested the sample and measured 1,682 CPM using their GCA-07W geiger counter. To avoid contamination, I left the sample in its plastic bag while I tested it with my Ranger Alert. Here are my results: Ranger readings: Direct contact with the plastic bag = 9,400 CPM Separated by a piece of paper = 6,400 CPM With plastic cap covering detector hole = 1,650 So a semi-direct reading through the plastic bag got 9,400 CPM with the Ranger and 1,680 with their GCA-07W. My conclusion is that the Ranger is much more sensitive -- probably due to the pancake GM tube, the fine mesh protector, and the proximity of the grid to the GM tube.

Excellent unit
Excellent unit. Tested against tritium and uranium ore control. My only complaint is that when you turn on the display backlight it only stays on for 5 seconds or so, thatโs annoying, but overall the unit was recommended to me and I also recommended it. Excellent quality for less than $1000.

Professional grade radiation detector
Radiation Alert Ranger is for sure a professional grade device, very easy to use both as stand-alone and as PC connected radiation detector! It is equipped with a large 2โ pancake probe, not energy compensated, but user can select 8 built-in isotope efficiencies, Cesium 137 is the default. Bluetooth connection is possible only with Android devices, I hope also with iOS in future. All the basic accessories are included.
