THE CLASSIC NBC SERIES ON 6 DVDS FROM THE CREATORS OF "COLUMBO" AND "MURDER, SHE WROTE". All 22 Episodes. Match wits with Ellery Queen (Jim Hutton) in all 22 uncut and unedited episodes of this classic NBC series following the exploits of the famed writer as he assists his father, Inspector Richard Queen (David Wayne), in solving the mysteries that baffle the New York City police force. GUEST STARS INCLUDE: Don Ameche, Dana Andrews, George Burns, Troy Donahue, Eva Gabor, Roddy McDowall, Ed McMahon, Sal Mineo, Donald O'Connor Vincent Price, Cesar Romero and many more! DIGITALLY REMASTERED Bonus Content : Series Pilot Too Many Suspects , Ellery Queen Interview with co-creator William Link. Review: Clasic mystery series. Entertaining to watch. - An enjoyable mystery series recreating the 1940's. Only one series made, I believe due to the expense rather than the popularity. The mysteries always end with Ellery Queen ( Jim Hutton ) turning to the camera and asking if we know who dunnit and did we spot the clues. Regular appearances by John Hillerman, who went on to co star in "Magnum" with Tom Sellick, as a rival radio sleuth who tries to find the villain before Ellery. No overt violence or swearing, a pleasant watch. Review: One of the great shows from way back - Excellent watched this way back in the day Great show. Loved the actor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Clever Series Still Delights
Ellery Queen ran for one season in 1975. It was set in about 1948, so reflected on events some 27 years previously. Now (2022) we are 47 years away from when the series was broadcast, and 74 years from its setting. It's nostalgia, on two levels. Ellery Queen (Jim Hutton) is a writer of mystery novels. He lives in an apartment in Manhattan with his father, Inspector Richard Queen (David Wayne), and whenever the Inspector is investigating a seemingly impossible murder, Ellery will step in to help. They are joined by the dogged Sgt, Velie (Tom Reese) and occasionally hindered by either pompous radio sleuth Simon Brimmer (played by John Hillerman) or old-school journalist Frank Flanagan (Ken Swofford). The plots are well put together, the period detail is charming, and the acting spot-on. There are guest stars galore, many from the Golden Age of Hollywood: similar to the later Murder, She Wrote (from the same creators) - one gets the impression that a lot of the cast are appearing not for the money, but because they fancied a few days out in a decent show in convivial company. The show didn't catch the public imagination, and folded after a year, but perhaps that's for the best (easy to say now, less easy if you were thrown out of work at the time). Far too many shows go on for far too long, and quality control goes out of the window. It would be untrue to suggest that every episode scores 10/10 on every scale, but in even those few episodes that are a little substandard there is much to enjoy. If you've never heard of or seen Ellery Queen, give yourself a treat. If you remember it from long-ago days then it's time to renew your acquaintanceship. You won't be sorry. Footnote: when broadcast on British TV the series was billed as "The Ellery Queen Whodunnit". Always a kindness to assume your viewers are idiots.

I like the idea (taken from the Ellery Queen books) of ...
Received promptly. I have not seen all the episodes yet but enough to get an idea of the style. These are essentially traditional whodunits, though unusually the main character breaks the fourth wall in every episode and asks the audience to solve the case at the same time he has. I like the idea (taken from the Ellery Queen books) of the viewer knowing exactly when he has enough clues to solve the case. The solutions are clever enough but not sensational. I have been stumped sometimes and solved them other times. For the initial cases at least there is an overreliance of the idea of they dying clue.

Ellerymentary
This is a review of the Ellery Queen series produced by Madman [the one with Jim Hutton on the front]. This contains all 22 fifty minute adventures and also includes the one and a half hour pilot [Too Many Suspects] which kicked off the series. Additionally, there is the feature from 1971, 'Ellery Queen: Don't Look Behind You', a poorly received precursor to the TV series starring Peter Lawford as a British Ellery Queen and Harry Morgan as his uncle, Inspector Queen set in contemporary New York. In truth, it's not *that* bad. The pilot has supposedly, been newly remastered and it certainly looks better than the series with fewer noticeable defects. The series is in rougher shape with stray lines, specks and spots in all the adventures however they don't spoil the viewing pleasure. The sound is acceptable although it can sometimes be difficult to pick out the odd word. There are no English subtitles. As a bonus, there's a 17 minute interview with producer William Link. Here, he discusses the guest stars, Jim Hutton, his partnership with Richard Levinson, the Lawford pilot they disowned and his love of Ellery Queen going back to the old radio days. There's also an alternative opening credits sequence with alternative music. I first remember watching Ellery Queen late at night on the TV and it was nice revisiting this series after so many years. Highly recommended [and much better than Murder She Wrote].

Ellery Queen from 1975
I remember this series from way back. All I could remember was that Jim Hutton wore leather patches on his jacket. I was delighted with the dvd. Each story had a great cast. Hollywood's finest. Very good value for money. William Link said he wanted to make a more cerebral crime show. Pity it only lasted for 1 season

Despite the fact that this DVD set is from the UK, and despite the warnings that it is Region 2 and will not play on Region 1 NTSC DVD players, the discs played just fine on my Samsung NTSC player. So would be buyers in the US and Canada can order this set with confidence. The contents of the discs are exactly the same as the E1 Entertainment set previously released in the US and Canada. The set contains all 22 episodes of the series as well as the pilot movie and an interview with co-creator and executive producer William Link. Video and audio quality is excellent. English subtitles only. The greatest mystery is why this terrific series lasted only one season.
