Great Muzzle for any Dog, especially Great Danes
We needed a muzzle for our 2 Male Great Danes that are 2 year old brothers and are nervous around new people and new situations since they are rescues that were not socialized properly and were abused. We wanted to ensure that when going to the Vet for a check up that no one would get bit. We had tried another muzzle the vet let us borrow that had a belt buckle like closure but that took too long to close and our one dog would go nuts and we could never get it on him. So I knew I was looking for something that had a one click closure option. I read through a lot of reviews and once I came upon this product I saw how many great reviews it got, so we gave it a try and have been very happy with it for both dogs. The one click closure works quickly and solved the problem we had before. This product comes with an extra security strap that runs from the nose to the head to ensure the dog can not pull the muzzle off with their paws or by rubbing it on the ground. I love this extra sense of security. It also has a loop on the bottom where the collar could run through it to ensure the dog could not pull it off that way either, but we have not had a need to use that option. I love how the dog has plenty of openings to breathe easily while wearing it and how they can easily be fed treats through it and could drink if needed with it on. Very well made design all around and a quality product. Our Great Danes are both Males and one weighs 133 and the other weighs 139. We bought Size 6 for both of them and it fits both of them great and they still have plenty of room between the end of muzzle and their nose. We did lots of treat training for 2 weeks with the muzzles before attempting to actually have them wear them. Meaning the first day we just let them sniff the muzzles and then they got a treat. Then for 1 week we would hold a treat at the end of the muzzle and the only way the dog could get the treat was to put their nose in the muzzle and get it. Then the next week we would still hold the treat at the end of the muzzle, but the difference was that we would not immediately release the treat like before. We would purposely hold the treat tighter so that the dog had to work harder to get the treat and that way they would be in the muzzle for about 3-5 seconds, just to get them used to the feeling more. Then at the 2 week mark, while still giving them a treat through it, we closed it. At first they both tried to paw and rub to get it off but we immediately said lets go for a walk and they were so distracted and excited about that that they barely messed with them after that. Then when we went on a walk a few days later they had no issues with putting them on and they only tried to mess with them once and then stopped after that while on walk. Would highly recommend this product.

This muzzle saved my dog, literally
***UPDATE***: It's now been nearly two years since I purchased this muzzle for the first time. Using this device as a tool, I have successfully rehabilitated my dog and he no longer suffers from separation anxiety. We gladly leave our dog out free roaming in the house with no muzzle now and this was only after using this muzzle for a short while. I truly wish more people knew about this training technique, as it was our last hope and it actually worked. ------ I LOVE my dog. I have NO IDEA why society has made muzzles out to be this terrible mistreatment of animals. When used properly, they are an exceptional tool that have enabled my dog to have a much happier life than he had before. I got my dog as a rescue from a local shelter, and like many rescue dogs he doesn't come without issues, but I don't love him any less. My dog suffers from severe separation anxiety. When we aren't home, he gets really anxious and his outlet is to chew on things and destroy them. This is very damaging to our property, and more importantly to him as well. We had no choice but to keep him caged up while we were away from home, but that isn't a good solution. He doesn't like it clearly, and we don't either but we felt trapped like we had no choice. His separation anxiety only intensified to the point that he even began destroying his crates and became uncontainable. The feeling was terrible... our dog was hurting himself chewing up heavy metal, and we had spent easily over $300 on replacement crates. This is when my desperation caused me to start exploring other options. I took a chance on using this muzzle, I had no idea how it would work out, and I had the society standard ideals of muzzles of all kinds are terrible. Desperate and out of options, I decided to give it a chance after researching and discovering I should use an open basket style muzzle. This is an open basket style muzzle. It also is a soft plastic, so it's gentle on the dog as well as anything he runs into. To my surprise, my dog actually didn't eat this muzzle immediately as I suspected might happen. Since he is unable to reach the muzzle he really can't get to it to chew on it. Finally, I was able to give my dog the freedom of roaming around the house while we were away and not have to worry about him hurting himself and our belongings. Now, after using the muzzle for maybe 6 months or so, we have finally been able to take it off and allow him to roam the house freely with no muzzle!!! This would have NEVER happened keeping him in the crate, because it made the problem worse. He has been successfully at home with minimal incidents over the course of maybe 1-2 months now. We would never had made this progress without using this muzzle as a tool. Society really needs to learn a thing or two about muzzles, because honestly I would have never used his crate in the first place if I didn't have that "muzzles are evil" view that everyone seems to have. Muzzles aren't even, this muzzle saved my dog! Had it continued the way it was before the muzzle, I have no doubt he would have seriously injured himself. Even worse, most owners would have given up on him and he probably wouldn't have been adoptable with his behavior problems. My dog is still far from perfect, but believe me this is the best decision I have ever made hands down for my dog.

These have been life savers
After 3 1/2 years of getting along beautifully, my two girls, a Siberian Husky and a GSD/Boxer mix, decided it was time to renegotiate the role of Alpha dog. They had never fought before and when they went at each other with no warning (well, I'm sure there were signs that I, as a stupid human missed) I was absolutely terrified. There is no doubt in my mind that they were prepared to fight to the death. Both dogs had to be sewn up and my hand ended up in someone's mouth when I tried to separate them and was pretty severely injured. I was in tears for two days, wondering how I was going to make it work long-term with three dogs, two of whom could have absolutely no contact with each other. They were still total lovebugs and as sweet as ever with me and with my other dog. But they wanted to kill each other. After doing some research and contacting a behaviorist, the idea of muzzles came up. I hadn't thought of muzzles, since I guess I had bought into the idea that they were for "bad" dogs. That's not the case. Muzzles can be an incredible tool. They provide a safe, fail-proof environment and allow us to work on the real issues. They let us be a happy family again. I bought the Baskerville muzzles, as they seemed like the best choice for active dogs since the dogs can pant, drink, take treats and the ventilation is excellent. It honestly only took about 10 minutes each to get the girls comfortable with letting me put them on. As recommended, I held the muzzle cupped in my hand with plenty of choice treats at the bottom. Each dog put their face in on their own to retrieve the treats. Once the muzzle was seen as a treat dispenser, it was no problem to get it buckled around the dog's head. It is a bit of a pain to find the holes in the strap, but when I found the best fit for each dog, I marked that hole with a dab of paint so I could locate it quickly. I used the over the head straps at first, but they were always flopping in the dogs' eyes. I took them off and neither dog has ever pulled their muzzle off. Truthfully, they're so used to them that they don't try to pull them off. These muzzles have just become a part of life and neither of my girls has any problem wearing one. When they see the muzzles, they sit nicely and are more than happy to put their face in as I hold the muzzle out. They seem to know it means family time. When wearing their muzzles, they get along great and play together without any aggression. They're very active, athletic dogs and wearing these particular muzzles has allowed them to remain so. Neither their vision nor their breathing is hindered in the least. They both realized right away that they could drink with no difficulty. They even snuggle together for naps, just like they used to. I think it puts them on equal footing, and since they know they can't fight, they don't even bother. I know it's the muzzles that make the difference because when they're not wearing them, hackles are raised and they still snarl at each other through a gate. I don't ever leave the dogs unattended with the muzzles on. I have this great fear of someone getting caught on something or somehow getting them off and fighting. During those times, they're in separate rooms. I also take the muzzles off and put up a baby gate every few hours and at meal times, just to give them a break. However, given the choice, my 3 dogs want to be together, so they do wear their muzzles for many hours at a time. The one problem we had was with rubbing on the tops of the dogs' snouts. Like I said, my dogs do wear these a lot, but the rubbing was enough to cause discomfort and rub fur off. I added some neoprene padding and that took care of the issue, but I'd like to see more padding in the design. I'm so happy that someone recommended muzzles and this brand specifically. I was so afraid of the logistics of keeping my dogs separated while still providing plenty of love and attention and exercise to each of them. I was scared of what would happen if I made a mistake and forgot to close a door. How would we go hiking? How would we take road trips? With the Baskerville Ultra Muzzles, I can have my loves together and we can do all of the things we've always done. These have simply become part of our daily routine and everyone is safe and happy and loved. I hope we can work through the aggression to the point that we won't need the muzzles. But, if not I know we'll be okay and I can't explain how much that means.

Good sturdy muzzle, but hard to fit
I'm still not sure what I think about this mask? I think it may just be that I am not familiar with a muzzle and I am just learning. It is very sturdy & it is adjustable, but not easy to adjust in my opinion. It is easy to clean. It is easy for a dog to drink if it is fitted correctly. I had a hard time getting the right fit for my border collie, narrow face with long nose. It fit my pit just fine though. I don't see how it can't fall off though if there was a dog fight? Was a good price.

Excellent product that the dog seems comfortable with
This was recommended by our vet as a way to prevent our dog from eating...inappropriate things...in the wintertime, and it is very effective. The dog seems comfortable wearing it (well, as comfortable as can be) and can still pant and drink water without having the ability to open and bite. In fact, I just used it at the vet today while the dog was getting vaccinated because she likes to turn around and nip when stuck with the needle. This prevented that, and made what is normally a stressful vet visit much more pleasant.

If its slightly off try boiling it for a second
5/5 At first, I was disappointed. I got a 4 for my pittie, and his head was too big. Almost returned for a 5 but the warm water thing made it fit perfectly. Very happy. Wish it came in brown tho

Takes the bite out of those awkward first meetings!
This was a great way to bridge the introduction period when we brought home our new puppy. We have an elderly dachshund (16 years old) who does not like other dogs until he gets to know them, and we were afraid he would traumatize our puppy with the inevitable nip. We were careful to make the puppy's arrival as stress-free as possible, but this was a great safety net. We started putting this on Napoleon about a week prior to bringing home the pup. Napoleon could eat, drink and pant while wearing this. It didn't seem uncomfortable for him at all--fitting this is pretty easy. I gave him little treats at first so he would take the muzzle--actually come right up and put his snout into the basket, because he knew there would be a reward in that. After the pup was here for several days, and they had gotten used to each other's scent, we were able to put the muzzle away for good. Just to be clear, Neo was not wearing the muzzle constantly during that initial period: we usually had him close enough so that we could intervene if he got irritated, but when they had "play time" we used it as an extra precaution. This is a GREAT tool. I wish I had gotten this years ago--Neo might have had more friends! Once he accepts a strange dog, he's fine, but when he was young I let that socialization window close and he got into some bad habits because of my non-training. In my defense, I had never had a puppy, and he was so barky and obnoxious that I would steer him away from other dogs at the park, instead of creating positive social opportunities for him. (Oh well, live and learn! ) If I had used this muzzle, I might have been brave enough to let him get closer to other pooches and then move on from there. And THIS old dog has learned a new trick: a comfortable basket muzzle MAY, in some circumstances, really help dogs become non-toxic roommies! My friend recommended this, and I am so glad she did. Remember: NO MUZZLE WILL PREVENT ALL BITES OR AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR. If you have a couple of dogs who will fight, this is NOT a guarantee that an attack is impossible. We still had to do rewards-based training while the dogs were together so they could associate socializing with praise and tidbits. For the brief time period this was used, though, it helped a lot. Right now they get along well. I won't go so far as to say they're best buds, because the puppy (now twice the size of Neo) wants to PLAYPLAYPLAY, while Neo likes to sleepsleepsleep, and that is annoying to both of them. But we can leave them together without any qualms. I would recommend this.

the standard
this is a very good muzzle, especially for the price point. I put off buying one for ages, put off by it being rubber... "plastic has to be better than rubber," I told myself- whatever the strength/consistency of the rubber- and kept my dog's plastic muzzle while looking for a local wire one (so I'd be able to try it on my dog before making such an investment). after being unable to find a wire one, someone at my local pet store brought up the Baskerville muzzle again. I decided to try it after all, because the plastic basket muzzle we had wasn't ideal for giving treats, which is an essential part of the counter conditioning I'm doing with my dog and her reactivity. the Baskerville muzzle is made with a hole at an angle down from the dog's bottom teeth. my dog often tries to take treats right in front of her nose, which is slightly more difficult because the holes there are different, but with some practice, she's much better at it than she was at first. treating with a muzzle is never going to be easy, but an added benefit of this muzzle is that i don't even have to treat from my hand; i can toss the treat on the ground and my dog can still get it. the size 3 muzzle is roughly the right size for my dog- a bit on the big side. size 2 is too small. due to the straps/padding that go on the underside of her neck and the length of her lower jaw, the muzzle pointed up at a good 60-degree angle when she wore it. it looked very uncomfortable and got in her line of sight, sooo... I cut the lower straps. good idea? bad idea? it's more comfortable for her now, so /shrug. whatever works the security of a muzzle is necessary to take into account, considering that many dog owners need muzzles for managing aggression. this is probably one of the muzzles capable of the highest level of safety, given its optional head strap and the collar attachment loop. using all of the safety options, a dog is gonna have a tough time getting this off. however, there is no muzzle in existence that a dog CANNOT get off if he is determined to get it off. "my dog got this off and ate it in three minutes/while I was gone/while I wasn't looking"- 99% of reviewers who say this about any muzzle have not conditioned their dog to tolerate a muzzle. put a muzzle on a dog who's not muzzle trained and he's going to paw at it, roll around, rub his face on nearby objects- anything to get it off. if someone were to put duct tape on your mouth, you'd do something similar. if your dog needs to wear a muzzle for any amount of time and you won't be able to actively keep him from trying to get the muzzle off, you NEED to muzzle train him before muzzling him. this means getting him to associate the muzzle with good things (toys, treats, belly rubs), THEN bit by bit starting to put the muzzle on. for a single second at first, then five, then ten, and so on until your dog is absolutely comfortable having the muzzle on his face. this is the only way for all these safety measures to work 100%. a muzzle, like any other tool, requires training before it can effectively be used. in closing- I wish that there were perhaps some other size options, more overlap maybe? so the size 3 wouldn't be too large for my dog, and that the padded straps had some method of adjustment, but other than that, I really like this muzzle. I absolutely recommend it to people who desire to muzzle train their dogs, for any reason.

Good muzzle for an adult German Shepherd (in size 5)!
I purchased the Baskerville Ultra Dog Muzzle, Size 5 for my German Shepherd (he is just over one year old), I am really satisfied with it, it is slightly big but he still hasn't reach his full adult size so once he does, it will be just perfect! Even though he still has some room to grow, it fits him and made things easier when I took him to the vet! I also love that he can eat and drink while having it on and it doesn't hurt him at all. It also doesn't hurt that it is cheaper through this seller than in the shops!
