French avant-pop duo Air's third album is the soundtrack to the Sofia Coppola movie about a brace of teenage sisters whose beauty mesmerises the local boys and whose suicides devastate the community. It's a Gothic, faintly silly romantic fantasy about lust for the unattainable, and Air's enigmatic "pure pop" treatment is the perfect musical backdrop. Tracks like "Playground Love" and "Highschool Lover" are deceptively candy-coated pieces of puppy lover's pop, all sighing saxophones and dippy keyboards, while "Bathroom Girl" is a slo-mo vision of beauty. With the spookier synth pulses and black vibes of "Cemetery Party" and "Dark Messages", however, Air get to signal the weirder undercurrents of the movie, while "Dead Bodies" is a full-on Gothic wig-out complete with a sisterly choir from beyond the grave. --David Stubbs Original score for Sophia Coppola's film. Includes "Playground Love". Review: Always liked Air. Not disappointed - Always liked Air. I liked playground love when played on. to the radio Motivated me to buy more Air’s music and got the whole soundtrack album. Not disappointed Review: Haunting - Only recently have I become attracted to electronica, and even then I refer electronica that piques one's interests; something that blends into other genres. This soundtrack is mesmerising, and though I've never seen the film, having read what happens I can imagine it working perfectly in tandem. I was directed to this album through a different source, that being Q Magazine's review of Lana Del Rey's debut album. That review pointed out that this soundtrack's haunting yet disturbingly romantic themes can be heard as an influence on Del Rey's album, and I definitely agree. Air created a stunning album in the form of this soundtrack, and I highly recommend it.

Air - "The Virgin Suicides"
The band's sound is very characteristic, being more introspective, a mysterious tone and quite instrumental. It's that kind of music to relax the mind, rest. There are many variations, giving the idea of a complete, concise, integrated work. The tone is calm. In this album there are some narratives as well. This album although a soundtrack, reminiscent of the the other album of the band "Moon Safari". Valid! Note 7.5.

Sublime
I owned this album when it first came out and it somehow got lost between house moves, boyfriends etc. I recently bought it again and it is still a masterpiece. Absolutely sublime!

Forgetable soundtrack from French duo.
It's been over two years since Air's last long-player "Moon Safari", the critically acclaimed coffee table album that made the French duo household names. The official follow up is still being worked on, and following last year's stop-gap re-release of "Premiers Symptomes", Air have been commissioned to write the soundtrack for the film "The Virgin Suicides". This isn't really a surprise as much of the band's work sounds like it belongs on a soundtrack anyway. The thirteen tracks here offer a dark feel to them, but don't expect any sprawling soundscapes as most of the tracks are very simple, forgettable instrumentals that rarely make it past the two-and-a-half minute mark, the whole album only just touches the 40-minute mark. Several spoken-word songs litter the album, the descriptive "The Word Hurricane" and the drawn-out finale "Suicide Underground", but these just seem a distraction to remind you the album is still playing. The exception to this is the single "Playground Love", sung by the mysteriously named Gordon Tracks, which has a more traditional Air feel, but its impact is lessened by a cheesy jazz backing. "TheVirgin Suicides" is not a bad soundtrack, but purely as a listening CD it simply fails to grab your attention. So if you only want something to play in the background, this does the trick nicely.

Excelente disco

Perfect!
It is perfect and so pretty! Came with no cracks in the case and the singing version of playground love. Definitely buy if you love Air and the Virgin Suicides.
