OXO Brew Portable Rapid Brewer

First off, I'm not a daily coffee drinker, more like a once or twice a week after dinner coffee drinker, I drink it for the flavor more than a "have to" kind of thing. That being said, I need to have great tasting coffee. I have quite the collection of different coffee making apparatuses, from simple stainless steel pour overs (surprisingly tasty coffee comes from those), to French presses, a couple of different cold brew devices, a couple of different Moka pots, and an AeroPress. I also tend to grind my own beans. I love making coffee in each of these coffee making devices, but at this time, my absolute favorite is the Oxo Rapid Brewer. I find it makes pretty good coffee, and the ease of use and cleanup afterward is also a major perk. Even though I really enjoy coffee in all of my other coffee devices, I have been known to want a cup of coffee but chose to not make it only because of the fact that it was either going to take too much time/effort to get it set up and/or the cleanup afterward. Enter the Oxo Rapid brewer. I love the fact that it can make hot or cold brew, and the cold brew takes only a few more minutes than the hot. I have been experimenting with adding a dash of cinnamon to the coffee bed before tamping, I'm going to try cocoa powder next. One thing I do that is a bit extra, since I have an AeroPress, I have lots of those paper filters for it, I do use one in my Oxo Rapid brewer, only to make it easier to clean out and it helps keep the metal filter from getting clogged. I don't know for a fact that it will get clogged, I'm only going by past experience with stainless steel pour over devices, they have a very fine metal filter and eventually the very fine coffee grounds do slow the coffee from going through. I am doing this in a preemptive manner. I also reuse the paper filter a few times, I did that with the AeroPress (don't judge) and it works just fine, I rinse it and reuse it a few times with no issues. If I remember correctly, the maker of the AeroPress said in an experiment to see how many uses he could get from one, he got 100 uses out of 1 paper filter, I wouldn't go that far, but I see nothing wrong with reusing it a few times. 👉👉👉<<<<EDITED TO ADD>>>>👈👈👈 I have pretty much stopped using the Aeropress filters every time, I still use them on occasion, but mostly not. I found that it doesn't clog at all, cleanup is easy, I just "knock" out the grounds into the trash and rinse out what remains. Sometimes I'll toss the grounds into my garden. I do not notice any cloudiness or fines in my coffee when made without the filter. Back to the regularly scheduled program, I find that the Oxo Rapid brewer works great for me, it makes tasty coffee, it's easy to use, easy to learn, easy to clean. It makes a concentrate which I use for a larger cup of coffee, I like to add either half and half or milk, some water and a bit of maple syrup for sweetness. I have found it makes just the right amount for me, but if need be I could share or since it brews so quickly, I could easily make 2 batches back to back. It doesn't leak, it makes more than enough for me, the unit feels sturdy, I'm not concerned about dropping it. Cleaning it is a breeze, I just knock out the coffee grounds, rescuing the paper filter, I rinse everything and let it dry in my dish drain. It is super stealthy too, no worries about disturbing anyone if I decide I want a quick cupper in the middle of the night. My only "issue" is I purchased a few bottles of coffee concentrate just before ordering this, it's hard to decide which I want to use, I am going to have to make myself use up my coffee concentrate (I don't want to waste them, they are good too). I am enjoying using this method to make my own coffee concentrate, maybe I'll hang on to one of the empty bottles and refill it with the brewed coffee concentrate. If you are on the fence about buying this, don't be, it's worth it, the price is right and the method is fun and makes a tasty brew.

i love this thing. originally, i was looking for something that would allow me to be completely off-the-grid when it comes to making coffee. i live in a corner of the world where power is not guaranteed from moment to moment, so boiling water or running the grinder (i have a manual to cover that) may not always be an option. i had heard that this thing makes excellent coffee even with cold or room-temp water in 5 minutes and thought, ok sure, i dunno how thats going to work, but ill give it a shot. and i will admit, i was skeptical. tbh... i STILL dont entirely understand how it does what it does with cold water (and i do mean COLD, 33 degree water even)... but damned if it doesnt work, and produce some fine tasting cups of coffee to boot. a little experimentation was required to get the best (for my tastes) results, but now that ive got it dialed in, i am very impressed with the results. speaking of, its a bit difficult to describe what comes out of this thing. made cold, its not exactly like a 12-24 hour cold brew... its certainly not espresso, and its not really like a traditional hot brew (pour over, filter, french press, or otherwise)... i dunno HOW to put it, exactly. first, when they say it produces a concentrate, they arent just whistling dixie, you do NOT want to drink this stuff straight. right from the press its black as coal-tar and half as thick, and will definitely put hair on your chest. however, cut down with ice, milk, and cold water, and damn thats a tasty cup. or, several really. depending on how strong you like your coffee, youre going to want to cut it down AT LEAST 2 parts to 1... and probably as much as 3 or 4 parts to 1. however, that said, i would NOT follow the box instructions for making it cold. it wants WAY too much coffee, most of which is wasted by their recipe. they recommend 40g, but using 25g yields something indistinguishable from the 40g dose. however, for this to work, youll want it a bit finer than they recommend. on my electric 36-step grinder, i put it on one step up from the absolute finest grind, but your mileage will vary depending on your grinder. its not espresso-fine, but its damn close to it. i put the 25g into the basket, needle it, level it, then tamp the holy hell out of it, like HARD. i then add the recommended amount of water and let it sit the 5 minutes. at the end of the 5 minutes you should have juuuust a bit in the cup, 1/8 to 1/4 inch at most. any more than that, and you need to go finer. at this point, pump it 5-6 times and it will run about 2/3 of the water through. 2-3 more will get the last of the water through followed by a satisfying hiss that lets you know youre done. of course, your tastes may be different than mine, but personally i find this gives great super-drinkable results without using as much coffee. made hot, i do pretty much the same (25g, same grind) but only the 2 minutes. youll have a fair bit more drip through in that 2 minutes as well, but thats fine dont sweat it. itll pump through quite a bit easier as well. but, again, the end result is a really tasty super-drinkable concentrate. itll taste a bit different than the cold, but pretty close. and probably, the closest thing id compare it to is what you get out of a moka pot, although a LOT stronger. ive also found its GREAT for cooking. the concentrate packs a TON of coffee flavor without a ton of liquid, allowing for a lot of versatility. i made a coffee cheesecake with a cold concentrate made as above and it was OUTSTANDING. im really looking forward to experimenting with this aspect of the brewer. its also quite ergonomic, stores compactly with everything self-contained (dont forget to stow the tamper in the water chamber) making it great for travel. im going to knit a little drawstring cozy for it for when i want to toss it in my day bag or suitcase :) tl;dr: if youve fallen down the rabbit-hole of weird coffee stuff, you owe it to yourself to put this in your collection. its fast, portable, power-free, versatile, and just... oddly cool and interesting. in the grand spectrum of coffee gear, the price is right too, so you cant hardly go wrong. and hey, if you dont like it, repack it and gift it for christmas to someone :)

I have loved my AeroPress since 2006 (2 decades). In that interum I've had manual espresso makers, Mr. Coffee type drip makers (not in the same league, but good for family groups), semi-automatic espresso/coffee makers, and my latest fully automatic espresso, Capucino, Latte, Americano, auto-frothing, medium small footprint, brewing machine. I've given Aeropresses as gifts. Throughout all that, I was periodically checking for the next level, significantly improved, but similar concept hand espresso/coffee maker. Ok, my OXO Rapid Brewer just came and I just had my first coffee - my favorite, Organic Colombian medium brew, whole bean, of course. In short, I found it, as an engineer you get to hear technical details why: 1) It does definitively taste better. Deeper, fuller, and not bitter. Why? Whereas the AeroPress needs Coarse grind so as to not clog up the paper micro-filters (still very reasonably priced, and actually even fit the OXO). I'm not planning on using them because this machine does great, and possibly better without them. 2) The OXO folks did their homework. It is built to use fine grind, the key to more flavor, and includes a very easy to use tamper, so like a traditional espresso machine higher pressure can be and is used. It is still the 'Arm-Strong' method, but it is much easier, safer, and more repeatable compared to the Aero, since the cap has a built-in multi-stroke air pump. It invisibly locks down and is not separate like the Aero plunger. After 4-5 pumps, one's hands don't even have to stay there maintaining the pressure, like one does for the Aero. 3) Interestingly, the OXO designers also capitalized on the known principle that quicker brewing gives you the flavor first, while longer brewing adds mainly bitterness. One never even gets to stir the coffee/water mix like a French press, as well as the Aeropress requires. After adding boiling (yes, boiling, not 195°-205°). I believe the water holding container, which has coarse holes to even out the water distribution, as well as much smaller holes to keep out the grounds, also functions to reduce the temperature to the aforementioned sweet-spot temperature range. 4) Details matter. There are helpful markings for the amounts of coffee and amount of water. There are also arrow markings to simplify reassembly of both the threaded bottom and top parts. The tamper parks right inside the carafe. The carafe looks and feels like heavy glass, though it is hard acrylic. The parts rinse very easily, the pump not really needing washing. If you keep the box, putting the carafe on top, over the, locked down with a quarter twist, plunger top, lets the whole brewer slide easily into the box. They could have called it an espresso maker, since it makes concentrated coffee the same way as an espresso maker does.

Taste wise; it more resembles a shot of expresso than the default Aero Press If you already own a Aero Press and used to the setup; i'd get a Prismo Attachment instead to cut on cost unless you want to splurge and try something new. Or if you have issues (physically) pushing down the pump Actual use case; its easier to pump, more fool proof (less chance of spills), no filter required, more difficult to clean, makes less, and more parts to keep track of Pump system is way easier. Instead of putting most of your weight or palm strength to push the water down; you do constant lesser pumps until its done. More fool proof. Less chances of spills (especially if you're used to the inverted method on aero press) seeing it's lower to the ground/table. Water and grounds in own separate chamber so no need to stir and mix both together making the end result more consistent There's no filter required since there are dozens of plastic holes built in already. It does fit the Aero Press filters if you want to use an extremely fine grind and worry about the grounds seeping through Easier to hand wash as the tube isn't that long (especially if you don't have extremely long fingers) until you get to the coffee ground part. Does not plop out all at once like the Aero Press. Need to hand scoop it out with a spoon (better with plastic spoon than medal), which can be a bit tedious. You can also bash the part holding the ground coffee against the bin several times i guess It only makes one shot of coffee at a time (supposed to add water to dilute it). Aero press can do 2.5x in terms of liquid quantity in a single use Cannot place it on any mug you want. must use the included cup and pour transfer

I have several types of coffee makers, and this may be my favorite. It’s easy to operate, easy to clean, and makes smooth, rich, very concentrated coffee. Some things to know: 1. The pump may need priming the very first time you use it. You can tell it’s primed if you feel some resistance and see the water level decreasing while pressing the pump down. 2. Press the pump repeatedly until all the water empties. I pump until I see foam coming out (that’s just my preference). 3. The coffee is highly concentrated, and the manufacturer suggests adding 2-3 parts water to it. I like very strong coffee, so I only add less than 1 part water. My daughter adds none. I suggest you add water to suit your own taste and health needs. 4. Cleaning: a. Rinse the plastic coffee cup with water b. Rinse the top and bottom of the water receptacle c. The coffee grind receptacle is easy to clean if you gently scoop the grinds out with a spoon, wipe it down with a dry paper towel, and rinse with water. OR it’s also safe to place all 3 of those parts on the top shelf of the dishwasher. Do NOT rinse the pump. — The only drawback I see is that the device doesn’t produce more coffee. But, it’s probably enough for people who need to dilute it more than I do.

After watching a YouTube review by Lance Hendrick, I purchased this brewer to replace my mason jar cold brew and my French Press. I spent the morning testing several recipes and am now ready to make this OXO Rapid Brewer my go to device. Not only will this travel well, but the exceptional functionality and clean up make the design perfect for my needs. The only additional equipment I need is a pint glass/bowl to catch drips/discard and keep the counter clean. I do not feel that paper filters are needed. I don’t mind a tiny bit of undissolved bits, and I allow for the final drips to be discarded. The clean up is a dump of the moist grounds into the trash and a simple rinse of the coffee puck container and a simple rinse of the water container. No soap, no sponge, nothing is needed for clean up. Just the trash and a bit of water to rinse. Recipe1 hot coffee Yield 2-3 servings 40 grams ground coffee (drip grind) 150 grams H2O (HOT) Tamp grounds in base. Attach all parts, add hot H2O, attach pump, one pump and hold for 30 sec to allow bloom. Release and pump several times to begin brewing. Once the water level has reached the filter, release pressure by unscrewing pump. Detach pump and place brewer in pint glass or bowl and allow remaining moisture to drip out. Discard this liquid. Dilute coffee in catch container with water at a 1:4 ratio. I enjoy strong coffee, and the flavor at 1:4 is excellent despite the light color. Trust me and try it. The Americano coffee brewed is FABULOUS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Recipe 2 cold brew yield approx 4 servings 40g ground coffee (drip grind) tamp H2O to fill line on brewer (room temp) Add coffee grounds, tamp and screw all parts together. Add room temp water to fill line. Attach pump immediately. Wait, do nothing, no pumping for 5 full minutes. Allow the water to have the time to penetrate the puck and create a nice bloom. After 5 minutes pump until water drops to filter line. Then detach pump to release any remaining pressure. Place brewer in pint glass or bowl and allow remaining moisture to drip out. Discard this liquid. Dilute the coffee in the catch container with water at a 1:3 ratio. Again at this ratio, one part coffee and 3 parts water, the flavor of the cold brew is that beautiful sweet that happens after the ice has had a chance to start melting from a cold brew made at your local coffee establishment. I enjoyed this cup of coffee with zero ice and zero creamer. The sweetness and flavor were perfect ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Please watch the YouTube review (2 separate videos) by Lance Hendrick. They are not very long, but very helpful. He is all the way down the coffee nerd rabbit hole. His recipes and tests will help you dial in to the perfect recipe for you without wasting too much coffee and time. It is very possible my drip coffee maker will be retired shortly due to the quality of this device. I am not thrilled about all plastic pieces, but I do like that I don’t have to buy filters, have a storage for K cups, and leave space on my counter for everything coffee needs. I now have one small device, a pint glass, a coffee cup, grounds, grinder and scale (multi-use tool for all my cooking, baking, measuring.) The coffee footprint in my kitchen and cabinet is very small. OXO - home run on this product! Additional recipe and NOTE: —-Single serving—- 20g coffee Fill with h2o Wait 30sec Press until water level lowers to the puck Produces about 100g of concentrate (weigh to be sure) dilute with 150-200g hot water as desired NOTE hot water is only 200F NOT boiling. You will burn the coffee and the taste will change.

As a self-proclaimed coffee snob who also values efficiency, I've been on a long quest for the perfect home brewing system. I've tried pour-overs, French presses, and various automatic drip machines, but none have quite hit the sweet spot of convenience, quality, and speed until the OXO Brew Rapid Brewer entered my kitchen. This machine is a game-changer and has unequivocally earned its 5-star rating. The "Rapid Brewer" in its name is no exaggeration. This machine lives up to its promise, delivering a perfectly brewed pot of coffee in an incredibly short amount of time. Mornings are often a rush, and the ability to have a delicious, hot cup ready almost instantly is a huge win. There's no long wait, just quick, efficient brewing that doesn't compromise on flavor. And speaking of flavor, this is where the OXO truly shines. The taste of the coffee is consistently exceptional. It achieves that elusive balance of rich extraction without bitterness. I believe this is due to its precise temperature control and the rainmaker shower head, which evenly saturates the coffee grounds. Every cup tastes clean, vibrant, and full-bodied, rivaling coffee from much more expensive machines or even my favorite local coffee shop. The simplicity of operation is another major selling point. It's incredibly intuitive – fill the water reservoir, add your grounds, and press a button. There are no complicated settings or programming to fuss with, making it perfect for those groggy early mornings. Yet, it still offers the option for single-serve or full carafe brewing, adding to its versatility. Finally, the design is sleek and practical. It has a compact footprint that doesn't dominate my countertop, and the stainless steel accents give it a premium feel. Cleaning is also straightforward, which is always a bonus. In conclusion, the OXO Brew Rapid Brewer has completely elevated my morning routine. It delivers consistently excellent coffee with remarkable speed and effortless operation. If you're looking for a coffee maker that combines convenience with genuinely superior brew quality, look no further. This is an investment you won't regret – a resounding 5-star product!

I've been using this twice a day for about 4 months, and the process is more consistent than the familiar press that I've used for years. So in general, thumbs up... Excellent Brew. However, I am really sick of messing with the o-ring. For some reason they didn't design it in a way that remains in place consistently. Every few days it falls out and I have to re reposition it and use the end of spoon or other narrow tool to gently tuck it back into its little slot inside the pump assembly. The feel changes noticeably when it has this failure mode, even though nothing is different in my process and it does not prevent pressurization down where it matters. Feels like an engineering error with very poor retention. At least it doesn't interfere with generating pressure and conjuring a cup of decent coffee (latte here with associated frother), but it requires way too much fiddly fixing and really needs to be fixed before this product can be taken seriously. Three stars is generous because of that, but the coffee is nice and consistent.

Jestem zadowolony z zakupu.

Makes great coffee! Works well. Would buy it again if I lost it. OXO makes good stuff.

Just received this today and I'm so pleased that I've bought it. I already have a Moka pot but am so lazy some days nd was looking for a quicker alternative! The design is simple yet sophisticated, all it took was two minutes and then some and my hot coffee was done! (Six minutes for cold, in case you're wondering) I feel that this would make a great gift to anyone and thus highly recommend it =)
