This is because the handle is not flat like how most disposable plastic forks and spoons are, but instead, it is rounded in its shape. Not only is being rounded an issue, the fact that the handle is rather thin is also of concern. Just think about holding a long bamboo skewer to write versus writing using a fat marker pen or a thick crayon or a pen grip that is placed over pens or pencils to enlarge the diameter of the grip.
