My favorite hose because it is free of toxins and lightweight and last for years
I have ordered this exact hose before and I loved it because it is FREE of toxins and lasted for several years and almost never kinked. It is great quality, safe to handle or drink from and incredibly durable. The 400 series is a slightly smaller diameter of the hose which I LOVE and now prefer because it is light weight and easier to manage and yet super tough like the bigger diameter hoses. You would be hard pressed to tell any difference in the water per second coming out of the hose so it is a win win. I also think the pricing is fantastic for this type of hose. If you ever go to the store to buy a hose, if you look closely, there is a warning that the hose materials are known to cause cancer and that you must wash your hands after touching the hose. Are you kidding me? Why would anyone buy a toxic cancer causing product like that? Probably because most people are not aware. So i looked for a "drinking water hose" which means it cannot have the toxic chemicals and require you to sterilize your hands if it touches the hose. This hose is a drinking water hose and thus, safe to use. You don't have to wash your hands or feel that you are dispersing toxins into the environment. By the way, the color is a great color to not be obtrusive like a lime green hose could be.

If a Bluetooth hose existed, this would be it (for specific applications)
UPDATE: I still love this hose even though I only use it for applying liquid fertilizer and other yard treatments. Another update is the photo of the reel I bought to store 100ft of the 9/16" version on. This is the Yard Butler Handy Reel, and it's a miniature reel that stores this hose efficiently. I've been hand coiling my hose this whole time and that got old. I didn't want a full-size reel taking up space when I only use this hose maybe 10 times a year. This summer I started applying my own yard chemicals, mainly in liquid form using a Chapin hose-end sprayer. I have 8000 square feet of turf and was using my standard 5/8" hose, which was heavy and a pain to maneuver around flower beds and other obstacles. I came looking for a smaller, lighter hose. After reading many reviews, I think it's important for folks to understand that there are 3 basic characteristics to choose from when it comes to hoses and pipes: --Pressure drop (psi) --Flow Rate (gallons per minute or gpm) --Diameter (inches, and factors into the weight of the hose) You can choose any two at the expense of the third. For example, if you want to maintain pressure and high flow, you need a larger diameter hose. If you want a small diameter that maintains pressure then you have to limit your flow. You can't have a high flow rate with minimal pressure loss from a small diameter hose. Fluid mechanics don't work that way. I replaced all the 1/2" pipe with 3/4" pipe in my crawlspace for these reasons. My Chapin hose-end sprayer runs at 0.5 gpm (tested with a bucket and timer). A simple online pipe calculator told me that a 100-foot hose at 7/16" diameter operating at 0.5 gpm will lose only 3 psi of pressure. The pressure at the spigot is 55 psi, so I have plenty of pressure at the other end of the hose with a flow rate of only 0.5 gpm. There is no noticeable difference in my sprayer performance between my big hose and my new hose, and now I can easily walk around spraying without lugging a heavy hose. Now, if I put my regular high-flow, car-washing nozzle on this skinny hose the performance is pathetic, but that's to be expected. You simply cannot ask this 7/16" hose for that kind of flow without a massive drop in pressure. I'll use my big hose for tasks like washing the car, filling the pool, and irrigating my lawn. This hose is good for lower-flow applications like applying chemicals with a hose-end sprayer, watering potted plants, and feeding a pressure washer (since they don't consume a lot of water). This 100ft hose would be a terrible choice for high-flow applications like washing your car, feeding a large lawn sprinkler, washing a driveway, or fighting a fire (anything where you need to move a lot of water in a short time). I saw a lot of reviews about the hose coil memory. Based on those reviews, when I unboxed my hose I expected a mess. I was planning to pressurize the hose and and leave it in the sun to straighten out. However, the picture included with this review was taken the moment I had the hose uncoiled out of the box it came in. I don't know what those reviewers are talking about since you see the hose is neatly laid out. For the record, it was about 85 degrees when this happened, and that may have made the hose more limber. The one complaint I have is the hose has a rubbery feel to it and it does not like to slide against itself or other smooth objects. I'm hoping this will go away after the hose is scuffed and gets dirty. I pull my hoses around patio furniture to avoid flower beds, and this hose tends to "grab" and not slide easily. Again, this may go away as the hose gets used more. I've experienced a couple of kinks, but they happen from my own poor hose management. If you let the hose twist too much and then pull it, the loops may kink. The thinner wall that makes the hose lighter likely contributes to this. You need to be mindful of how you drag the hose around and avoid twisting it. Mostly the loops just straighten out on their own, and usually a "whip" of the hose will get a kink to pop out, which is easy with this light-weight hose. In summary, I'm thrilled with this new hose since it'll make spraying chemicals much, much easier. It's a great hose for some applications, and don't expect this hose to perform like a 5/8" or 3/4" hose since there's a reason hoses are made that big.

Fantastic hose!
This is a fantastic hose! Very slim and light, easy to move around, fits easily on my hose reel with room to spare, and looks good, too. We do a lot of backyard gardening, and our lot is pretty deep, so we need a 100' hose to reach all the areas of the yard. I previously was using 5/8" hose, which provides good water flow, but was difficult to work with - heavy to pull around, easy to damage plants, hard to maneuver, and the weight was prone to moving sprinklers slightly out of alignment. This hose is 1/2" in diameter, which means that it is noticeably thinner and lighter than a 'normal' 5/8" hose, and is much more light and maneuverable to use. That means less damage to plants, and much less frustration with dragging the hose around and trying to get it perfectly positioned with the sprinklers. One point to note is that the water flow is reduced due to the smaller hose diameter, but as long as you understand that going in (which I did) it's an acceptable trade-off. For me, what that means is that instead of being able to water my entire back lawn using two sprinkler moves/positions, I now have to use three moves/positions. That small inconvenience is more than made up for by the overall ease in using this hose for all of our other needs, but if you have specific requirements for maximum water flow, this smaller, thinner hose might not be a good choice. The quality of the hose material is also top notch, and it has the look and feel of a hose that will last for a long time. I have the intention of coming back to update this review after a few seasons to speak to longevity, but having owned a lot of hoses over the years, I can tell you that my early impressions after a couple of months are that this will be an outstanding and durable hose. Oh, and my wife *loves* the eggplant color. :)

Water Right PSH-050 Polyurethane Hose
Application: I purchased this hose as a possible replacement for a Gilmour POTABLE water hose in our RV. The RV has a powered hose reel that rolls up any extended hose with manual assistance. Generally, a longer hose is preferable since this would avoid the need to occasionally and manually connect hose extensions to available water sources in campgrounds. However, the hose reel has a limited capacity. The reel has a capacity of about 50 feet of 1/2-inch ID hose. A 5/8-inch ID hose would provide more pressure and probably better flow rates but would have to be cut shorter, probably to about 35 - 40 feet. Candidate Hoses: Since permanent installation of a hose in the RV requires a lot of knuckle-busting labor, I decided to compare three hoses for possible installation into the RV (all were purchased from Amazon): 1. Gilmour 12 Series 5 Ply Marine and Recreation Hose 1/2 inch x 50 feet 12-12050 White with Aqua Stripe; 2. Apex 7612-50 Neverkink Boat and Camper 2000 1/2 inch x 50 feet Hose, and; 3. Water Right PSH-050-MG-4PKRS 50-Foot x 1/2 Inch Polyurethane Lead Safe Ultra Light Slim Garden Hose - Olive Green Observations: The Gilmour hose was identical to the hose that I had installed in the RV about 2 years ago. However, it needs to be replaced since it had been slightly cut in two places that caused it to leak. The cutting may have occurred during occasional jamming of the hose against the reel housing when the hose was returned to the reel. The Apex hose was a vinyl hose very similar to the Gilmour hose but with a surface that was not quite as smooth as that of the Gilmour hose. The Water Right hose was quite different from the previous two hoses. First, it clearly does not have as large an outside diameter as the other two hoses. It may have a much thinner wall but I doubt it. I don't think it has a 1/2-inch inside diameter. But, at this point, I am not going to cut it to measure the inside diameter. The Water Right hose also feels very tough but also somewhat tacky. It is also lighter in weight. Due to the much smaller appearance of the Water Right hose I decided to compare the flow rates for each hose. Each hose was connected directly to the campground water source and the amount of time required to fill a calibrated 2 gallon container at the end of the hose was recorded. The results are as follows: Gilmour Hose 14.5 seconds (8.3 gallons/minute) Apex Hose 12.5 seconds (9.6 gallons/minute) Water Right Hose 22.5 seconds (5.3 gallons/minute) Clearly, the Water Right hose does not attain the water flow rates achieved by the Gilmour and Apex hoses. The Water Right website infers that the flow rates of their slim hoses are comparable to other hoses in most installations. To test this assertion, each hose was connected directly to the campground water source and the amount of time required to fill a 2 gallon container at the RV KITCHEN FAUCET and the RV SHOWER HEAD was recorded. The results are as follows: Gilmour Hose Kitchen Faucet - 73.0 seconds (1.64 gallons/minute); Shower Head - 43.5 seconds (2.76 gallons/minute) Apex Hose Kitchen Faucet - 71.5 seconds (1.68 gallons/minute); Shower Head - 44.0 seconds (2.73 gallons/minute) Water Right Hose Kitchen Faucet - 75.0 seconds (1.60 gallons/minute); Shower Head - 48.5 seconds (2.47 gallons/minute) Thus, in our RV which has 1/2-inch PEX plumbing with a considerable number of Tees, Elbows, etc. the flow rates are not drastically different. So, if you are needing a hose to fill a pool or simply flood an area then the Water Right hose may not be the best choice based solely on flow rate. However, for our RV I have decided to install the Water Right hose for the following reasons: 1. It had comparable end-use flow rates; 2. It is smaller in diameter which would allow it to better fit the hose reel and reduce the risk of jams and potential cutting, and; 3. It feels tougher than the two vinyl hoses. It definitely does not tend to 'fold' back over itself as easily as the two vinyl hoses. At this time, I cannot compare the kink behavior of these hoses. The Gilmour hose was supposed to have a reduced tendency to kink but I have experienced some kinking with it. The Water Right website says that gradual use of their hose, especially in dirty or dusty situations, will reduce the slightly tacky characteristic of their hose. Prior to installing it in the RV I am going to dust it lightly with Talc to see if that provides a comparable but quicker result. I gave the Water Right hose four stars out of five because it appears to be a very well made, tough hose with hose-end strain relievers. I could not give it five stars because I am skeptical that the hose is indeed a 1/2-inch ID hose and I have not had experience with how kink resistant it is.

One of my best home purchasesโฆ15 years later!
I rarely write reviews, but after 15 years of use, this hose has seriously blown me away. It rarely kinks, is very lightweight, still looks almost new. I remember thinking it was spendy when I purchased it but what a valuable lesson in you get what you pay for. I would buy this 100 times over.

A breeze to use, durable, and safe
This is my favorite hose that Iโve ever bought. I am back to buy a second one for the other side of my house and just realized that Iโve owned my first one for five years and itโs still in perfect condition. It really doesnโt even look faded and it hangs on the south-facing side of our house. I bought it originally to water my garden so chemicals donโt leach into our food from the hose, but I love itโs durability, itโs light weight, and how easy it is to maneuver. I hate my heavy hose on the side of the house and am getting a second one of these for that spot even though I donโt technically need to replace yet. This one kinks but all hoses do because of the way theyโre coiled when not in use. It actually is sturdy enough to not get worn down in several spots down like thick hoses tend to do, and then just keep kinking there over and over again. Itโs easy to drag around, easy to wind up when done. It is thin but provides enough pressure to get the job done. It might be better this way because it saves water but you can still wash things off with it if you need to. I love that itโs made in the US. Thank you for a product that doesnโt need to be replaced constantly and does the job beautifully.

Best hose yet!
This is probably the best hose I have ever had in my life. Itโs light yet strong and doesnโt kink. Itโs easy to maneuver around the yard. The only downside is that the pressure isnโt very high and what Iโm used to, but it works for what I need it for.. I know that this company makes a more expensive hose that has better pressure but this one does work, again for what I need it for I will be getting another one.

Worth EVERY PENNY!
Update 2024. 9 years and still no leaks! Update 2022: This hose is still going strong! 7 years and counting. Amazing quality and value. So far this water hose has been worth EVERY penny! Watering used to be a chore I hated - dragging the heavy stubborn hose around the yard, sometimes smashing plants in the process. And then the task of winding it back up, all 100 feet and what seemed like 100 lbs of it. What can I say - I hated it! This hose was very easy to install, it is LIGHT! It doesn't kink, even if it accidentally gets on the flower bed in the process, it doesn't cause a lot of damage. I was considering buying one of those shrinking hoses but the reviews were overall negative and I wasn't confident it'll last a season. This product is of high quality and comes with manufacturer warranty. It looks and feels like it'll last for years. The metal hardware doesn't seem cheap or fragile. The fact that this hose is BPA-free is an added bonus! The only possible downside is that because the hose is substantially thinner than the typical hose, the water pressure will be lower, so if you use your hose for power washing that's something to keep in mind. It works perfectly for my needs however and this isn't a concern for me. I'm one happy customer!

Leaked Immediately
This hose leaked immediately. Water spurts out from between the plastic of the hose and the metal fittings. It was securely screwed onto our tap, and engaged the seal easily, but still leaked no matter how tight it was fitted. This was extremely disappointing because this product would have been perfect for our needs, such a shame.

Amazing Hose! Dont look elsewhere, A+++ Quality
I initially bought a few of the flexible / expanding hoses which ALL malfunctioned on either the first use or within a few days. Those were all 20-30 bucks. I decided to look for something more durable but also light enough to move along my yard. I landed on this hose because of the reviews, the length, "skinniness", and just curb appeal based on what i saw in pictures. I've been using this the last month now and its been EXCELLENT! Doesn't get tangled overly, pretty light, and easy to manage. Definitely going to buy at least 2 more for my sprinklers in the yard :D

Great buy ! Very lightweight hose !
The only reason I don't give 5 stars is the fact that the pressure is slightly lower because of the smaller diameter of the hose (which is perfectly normal under the circumstances). The new 5/8 diameter hoses were only available from the USA when I wrote this review (october 2013), when they will become available from Amazon Canada, I will replace all my hoses (I have three all around the house) with those Water Right products, this meaning I am very satisfied of my purchase. In addition to its convenient lightweight, this hose never gets tangled, which pleases me greatly. Color is great too !
