Helpful warning for the layman looking to buy an M.2 enclosure: There are two types of "key" for M.2 drive slots: "B" and "M". This enclosure has an "M" slot, so it will only work with drives that have an "M" key or a "B+M" key. If you're unsure, the product images provide a visual guide, but generally speaking, the "B" key has a notch on the left with 6 pins, and the "M" key has a notch on the right with 5 pins. If your drive has two notches, that means you have both keys and you're covered by this enclosure. Additionally, not all M.2 drives use the same protocol. Some use SATA (usually older drives), some use NVMe. Most enclosures only support one or the other. This enclosure supports both protocols. If you are unsure why this one is slightly more expensive than other Ugreen enclosures that look the same, this is why. If you are unsure what type of drive you have, definitely go for one that supports both like this one as you'll be sorted either way. Personal thoughts: This little enclosure is amazing. It does 10Gbps. The outer case is made of metal, so it feels quite sturdy and dissipates heat quite well. It comes with two good-quality USB 3.2 cables: one USB-C to USB-C and the other USB-A to USB-C. It supports both SATA and NVMe protocols and has mounting points for the four most common sizes of M.2 drives, providing plenty of versatility and working as a good jack-of-all-trades. It's a great way to bring a second life to older drives.

I picked up this UGREEN M.2 NVMe & SATA enclosure to make use of an old SSD I had lying around, and I’m really impressed. First off, it supports both NVMe and SATA drives, which is awesome — no need to double-check what type you have. Setup was a breeze. No tools needed, just slide it open, pop the SSD in, and you're good to go. It even comes with thermal pads and a little silicone cover to help with heat, which is a nice touch. Performance-wise, it's super fast. I'm getting speeds close to 1GB/s on my NVMe drive when transferring big files. Perfect for backups, video editing, or even running portable apps. It works great with my laptop and Steam Deck thanks to the included USB-C and USB-A cables. The aluminum build feels solid and helps keep things cool, though it does get a bit warm after heavy use — nothing crazy though, and no slowdowns. Overall, if you’ve got a spare M.2 drive lying around or just want a fast and reliable external SSD solution, this is a great pick. Highly recommend!

Works as intended and brought old m.2 SATA SSD back to life for use as an external data drive. Good packaging, nice aluminium enclosure with a silicone drop protection sleeve. There are two screws, one to hold the case together, the other to hold the SSD in place so it is reasonably sturdy once assembled (mini screwdriver supplied in the kit). However, the thermal pad supplied to transfer heat from the SSD to the case is too thin, leaving an air gap. I had some spare SSD thermal pads available so squeezed an extra one in to fill the gap; if you don't have this available, you may end up cooking your SSD.

Purchased this to make use of and old NVMe drive that I have laying around and turn it in to a super portable drive. I have a worry that the speed would be slow but ugreen has got the technology spot on as there was little transfer degradation, very impressive. Comes with a USB C to USB C cable and a USB A to USB c both around 10 cm long with is perfect. The rubber case helps to deal with being shoved in a bag and knocked about; I have had it for a while with no issues at all. You can put in different length drives in making it versatile for different applications and the two cables makes it easy to connect to a wide range of different devices. The case itself is metal so hard wearing and also with the supplied heat pad keeps the heat dissipation on track and the drive cool. Over all, good value for money would recommend.

Good caddy for both PCIe and SATA SSD's. I bought this to use when replacing a 128GB SATA SSD in a Hewlett Packard Laptop. Bought along with that rare beast of an M.2. NGFF SATA SSD - an ADATA SU650 512GB. So far I have only inserted the disk temporarily in the caddy, so have not used the thermal pad with it. Good read/write speeds on USB-C. As I used it without the enclosure I cannot comment how hot it will get nor how good the heat dissipation of the thermal pad is. The caddy is not totally tool free, there is a small screw to remove the lid, it ships with a screw driver and a spare screw, which was lucky as I misplaced the original (now found lurking in my carpet). Once the screw is removed it is easy to install the SSD with the provided standoff screw by sliding the lid off. Reassembly is the opposite and equally easy. It is nice to have the rubber sleeve to help prevent knocks. All in all a good design, but if I was intending to swap disks regularly I'd use one of the hinged caddies.

Put my old SSD into this and it now works as an external hard drive. Easy to install and works very well.

I bought this enclosure for transferring data to a new PC. The enclosure is well finished and very sleek looking. Great to have both cables USB-A and C. I didn't realise the rubber bumper was included too, so that was a nice surprise. 1 star off because it says "tool-less installation", but requires undoing a screw on the side and another screw inside to secure the SSD (the latter is possibly "thumb-screw-able" (they even include a screwdriver!) - I am not sure whether to send the item back, it seems petty for just that one issue, but definitely considering doing so. If UGreen read this, please just amend the product page to remove the tool-less part - you would have got 5 stars then.

Good quality enclosure - built like a tank. Very easy and straightforward install process. Have been using for a few months now and there have been no issues with the installed drive at all. A tiny hit in performance compared to when installed directly on the machine, but that's to be expected when over USB and nothing to do with the enclosure itself.
