can the pivot pin be tightened?

Yes. It is a slot-head screw. It is not pin construction.

Are these good for cutting button holes?

Haven't tried that but I'm sure they are because they are very sharp and pointed. Where some scissors the tips are sort of rounded but these are not. Also the blades are thin enough to get into the button hole space.

What is the length of the cutting blade on the embroidery scissors?

The cutting edge is 2-1/16 inch.
