desertcart.com: David Hume Kennerly On the iPhone: Secrets and Tips from a Pulitzer Prize-winning Photographer: 9781939621139: Kennerly, David Hume, O'Neill, Ed: Books Review: Engaging and Surprising. A book that teaches you how to create images that people will remember. - This book will surprise you. I found David Hume Kennerly book refreshing and more about how to take a great photo. Not the technical aspects such as shutter speed or aperture, that is what everyone writes about. His book is about how to engage the subject, how to find great images, and what makes an image something you would remember. He addresses the art of photography in a way that other photo books seem to miss. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn how to grow as a photographer. Review: But it's not just the photographs I love, it's his nerve - I've been a fan for years but David Hume Kennerly's new book just blows my mind. One killer shot follows another, page after page. But it's not just the photographs I love, it's his nerve. When you've had as much success and shot as many demanding assignments where your life may be on the line as David has, one tends to care about one's gear. Professional photographers are very demanding of their cameras and extremely dependent on them working as expected and promised. As good as the iPhone is as a camera, it's still fairly low res and evolving as a tool. So I also salute David for embracing the new, learning a new way of shooting, taking the risk and then coming back with the goods. Bravo! And for novices to photography or to iPhone and mobile photography in general, David is a generous teacher here, sharing tons of useful tips and techniques that even pros can benefit from. But the greatest thing for me about "On the iPhone" is the pictures. I was floored as I went through these astounding, beautiful, sometimes moving images, all taken with the iPhone. Wow! I highly recommend this book and look forward to the sequel - which no doubt he's already shooting with the new iPhone 6 Plus.

The iPhone has become the best used tool so far since it is always on ...
I am personally challenging myself to photograph an image a day with whatever camera is at hand. The iPhone has become the best used tool so far since it is always on my person. I have been incredibly inspired by David's book and images. My eyes have been retrained to look beyond the surface thanks to "On the IPhone...". I highly recommend this book to anyone that is seeking to improve their photographic eye. A fancy camera is not always essential to creating a wonderful image.

A WASTE OF MONEY
AS OTHERS HAVE SAID, THERE IS NO SPECIFIC TECHNICAL INFO, I.E. APPS TO USE, ETC. GENERAL PHOTOG BOOK. D. KENNERLY IS A TALENTED PHOTOGRAPHER, BUT THIS BOOK GIVES ABSOLUTELY NO INFO ON TECHNIQUE FOR ACHIEVING AND CREATING PHOTOS ON THE IPHONE. ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE COME ON. A WASTE OF MONEY.

Many reviewers missed the point overlooking the gem it is!
I am a professional photographer myself. I purchased this book in 2015 and have read and re-read it several times, sometimes reading all the text as I look at the photos, sometimes just looking at the photos. I have had entire exhibitions of my iPhone images. I’ve entered many in competition and have reached the point where I don’t even tell them they were taken with an iPhone. What I found sad is that so many reviewers here totally missed the point. Some seemed to have not read all of the text or were expecting a step by step how to guide on how to do it. Many Youtube videos can give you the technical information on how to use the many, many iPhone Apps. What David Hume Kinnerly did was give you was a look into his mind as he describes the photos. That is priceless. If this doesn’t inspire you I doubt anything will.

Lower quality phone photos from the past.
I got this to look at some iPhone photos from days gone by. I admire the photographer for doing this, but because they are from an older device, in some cases the photo quality is not that great by today's standards.

sounds like something he will like once it
Actually this has been back ordered so I don't know how to respond. It's also a present for my son - heard a review on NPR....sounds like something he will like once it comes

Lots to learn and enjoy
One of my very favorite photographers generously shares his vision and techniques. I will read and re-read.

Given the iPhones latest Super-Plus iteration, a very timely publication that's as good and entertaining a read as it is a Manual. Classic.

Some great photographs and sage advice on iPhone photography from a serious, award-winning, professional photographer. I'm being a little hard and knocking off a star because I would have liked to see more info included on the various camera/processing apps used in making the excellent illustrations. Nevertheless a good book.
