HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 (120W)

our company gives out G2 dock for home use. It worked great and I'd need to get one as a second dock at home to replace an old thinkpad USB C dock. I always had some concerns about buying electronics from third party sellers. This one works great and just looks like a new OEM part. so far no issues.

Works as a charm. Wanted to find something that can work with Thunderbolt type-c port as well as can downgrade to work with regular usb type-c 3.1. This dock supports both options and works perfectly with HP EliteBook 840 G5 (Thunderbolt) and Lenovo ThinkPad E490 (usb type-c 3.1). Besides, tried to use it with Samsung DeX via Galaxy S8, but for now the phone does not detect connected monitor which may be fixed with connecting the monitor to some other port (still need to try) as such trick helped on another type-c mini dock.

Everything worked flawlessly out of the box - plug-n-play and go. Love the small footprint, but that is somewhat negated by cable ingress/egress. Computer power on/off on top of dock is great feature. Would like an HDMI port (or 2). Ample USB A and C ports. Bought the speaker separately - I had low expectations and really just wanted it as a 'speaker'. Same as the dock - flawless out of the box, easy install - plug-n-play and go. Power and speaker controls on top are great - touch sensitive and a little vibration. Sound quality is solid. It is an exceptional conference call speaker phone - was not expecting that. Great microphone and speaker with echo cancelling - this was a surprise and has me using hands free speaker phone more than ever. Completely satisfied and highly recommend. Pricey, but worth it. Note - I have a complete HP setup - laptop, monitor, printer, and the Thunderbolt Dock.

This does not work for dual monitors. It has the set up for it, but does not recognize the 2nd monitor. I was advised by our IT people that this Dock has a reputation for not working with dual monitors and it breaks down often so they have changed what docking station they use. DO NOT BUY

This is my favorite kind of thunderbolt hub, in that it has a USB fallback mode. I didn't even realize that until I forgot my laptop at work today and plugged my iPad in. A USB-C hub is the best. You plug it into your laptop, and Thunderbolt or not, it will accept the DisplayPort connection and also work as a normal USB hub for all plugged-in devices. This likely means that even the iPhone 15 will get keyboard/mouse monitor support if you plug this thing into one. Oh and all this while it's charging your laptop. I like it.

I had high hopes for this refurbished HP docking station. It was in very good condition. It looked new. Unfortunately, I was unable to get either of the DP ports to work. I returned it. As always, the return was blessedly easy and I really appreciate that convenience. By the way. I initially COMPLETELY MISSED the AC adapter tucked away in the BOTTOM of the box, beneath a piece of solid cardboard (that I mistook for the bottom of the box). I ended up buying one from a store on eBay that specializes in computer equipment. It works perfectly and was cheaper. 👍🏽👍🏽

Pros: Works over ThunderBolt3 with HP Spectre 15" & MacBook Pro 2016+. Dual display worked with U3011 2K@60Hz DP-DP, LG 27GL850-B 2K USBC-DP, and VGA, using left-sided DisplayPort is plugged in, and rear-right-side USBC port. Cons: - Buggy: HP's dock firmware upgrade causes BSOD on Win10 1909. HP Support is unreachable. - Buggy: I tried 7 cables compatible on the CalDigit TS3+, 5 failed on the G2; full DP cable in left slot + right USBC worked. TB3 port failed to daisy-chain to the TS3+ TB3 dock and fails with most cables too. - Bad design: Top panel (1/6th of the unit!) is a power button that cannot be disabled, you will shut down often, accidentally. The dock has its own fan and low CPU activity activates the laptop fan even when not charging. - Bad on MacOS: TS3+ @ 85W works immediately, G2 @ 100W only has no ethernet, no audio, no dual-display on Catalina; yet both work in Bootcamp Win 10 1809 on MBP 2016+. - Vendor lockin: TS3+ is more reliable and versatile in all but one case: HP 15" charges on HP G2, but HP's Windows Notifications ask for power cable with TS3+ under moderate CPU load. Conclusion: For an HP 15", or if for $50 you're willing to live with bugs, buy the G2. For anything else get a CalDigit TS3+ (refurbished, on holidays for 15% less).

The product does its job and is able to drive two 4K monitors and several USB peripheral devices. But just in a few months of use started glitching and eventually stopped working all together.

Works perfectly with my ZBook G6. USB charging works as well. Can also charge my Lenovo USB-C 14W budget laptop either through the main USB-C connector or even through the rear USB-C port. So far the best of three Thunderbolt docks I've tried out.
