Lenco L-3867 Turntable with USB connection

Such a good turntable. I linked it up with my M-Audio AV32 Desktop Speakers (as it needs to be joined with speakers or no sound) and the whole thing works perfectly. 100% would reccommend this to anyone looking for a turntable that doesnt want to spend hundreds of pounds or buy a Crosley!! It's also a good beginner's record player/turntable as it's easy to set up and has no complicated details yet looks good.

ORIGINAL REVIEW April 2013 ========================== I am writing here, a little out of naivety probably because I thought 'what the hell'. I fancy the theatre of vinyl (at the age of 42,) again. This started after some personal dust had settled, marriage break-up, new flat... and some time on my hands, so... 'I know, I'll buy a record player...' after buying some vinyl, I needed something to play it on. I bought this with the USB connection, because I thought it might come in useful... but I bought the record player and the records in order to have that 'interactive' theatre, I realised the USB to PC recording would be irrelevant. I wanted to move away from click and listen, to something more laborious. So I tried the USB connection once, and got rid of the lead, and forgot that bit. The first thing I noticed once I got an OLD record on the turntable through the RCA jacks into a spare pair of holes, was that the sound was quite weedy. Very weedy in fact. I then put on a NEW record, the sound was better defined, but still very weedy. My amplifier was a new-ish cheap one, a Richer Sounds one. No phono input. I bought a 'new' old amplifier with phono and tape monitor, and a 'new' old graphic equaliser... a late 90's Technics amp and a mid 90's Sony graphic EQ, both from Cash Converters. A good place to get yesteryear's top of the range, discarded, branded stuff. An improvement. I initially tried the phono input, but seeing as the record deck has a pre-amp and the amplifier has a phono pre-amp, I just got distortion. The Graphic EQ around the tape loop and the record player in the DVD-in inputs, made the difference. Without the graphic EQ, incredibly weedy again. I think the product is good, the sound is INCREDIBLY clear, hence four stars. Even though I have given this four stars - I stress I can only give it four stars with the right 'back-line'... the graphic equaliser and the right amplifier. Right... off to listen to a record...! UPDATE August 2013 ================== OK. Nothing lasts forever. Including styluses on a record player. This is no exception. I really DO like the sound of this turntable, so I wanted to carry on enjoying the thing. I went all around the Wrekin working out what the replacement stylus should be... I asked the people who sold me this turntable on Amazon - they didn't know! I asked the people who MADE the turntable - no help there... I rang up the 'trade' number on the website (only number listed) and a French-sounding lady said someone would call me back... no-one did. I then emailed the customer support... Some wet-behind-the-ears school-leaver type called Wayne approached my email as if it was a fault! He wanted me to demonstrate proof-of-ownership via a receipt! He wouldn't believe me that you have to take needles off styluses, to put on new ones! He did not have a clue about what I should do... he reckoned it must be a fault and I should send the turntable back for needle repair! Eventually he believed me that an individual really can take off and put on a new stylus! I do not think he has a large vinyl collection... poor lad. His advice final advice (to get rid of me) was 'go to Maplins'. I replied 'but there is not one type of needle - there are many! What needle do I ask Maplins for?' I did not get a reply from poor Wayne after this. It must have fried his brain. Anyway, as luck would have it... my dad wanted to listen to his old vinyl; so, we got his old Sony record deck from the mid-eighties out of retirement... we needed a new needle after 30 years... IT WAS/IS THE SAME NEEDLE AS ON THIS LENCO! It is a Sanyo ST09 type replacement stylus! Look on Amazon for " Replacement Styli Fits Sanyo ST09 " - they're about £7. Keep a firm grip on the cartridge and the arm when removing and replacing a stylus. --- Another thing! I bought a cork turntable mat on Amazon for a tenner and plopped it on top of the existing rubber mat. It seems to provide additional bass and treble, as well as really cutting down on dust-stuck-to-the-needle / static. ANOTHER UPDATE 26/10/2013 ========================= 7 months after I have bought this turntable, I upgraded my Pro Logic v1 to a new Onkyo Pro Logic v2. The sound of vinyl using this new amp, was as weedy as hell - again. I nearly took the new amp back to the shop as the sound was so flat, dull and uninspiring. From the corner of my eye I saw, resting in a box, the old amp and graphic equalizer. So, I did what you are not supposed to do, I wired the turntable to the old amp, then to the graphic and the graphic to the 5.1 Onkyo. This saw a MASSIVE improvement; but, alas... not an immediate improvement - it just didn't 'gel' first time. What I had to do was really work on the graphic settings, line by line - now it sounds great. A couple of days of effort. This turntable has FABULOUS clarity - but you have to go to Cash Converters/eBay/hi-fi gear place. You need (in my case) an old graphic equalizer and old-skool amp to beef this up, to really enjoy this turntable. It is TOO weedy by itself; once that's done - it sounds brilliant. This course of action is NOT expensive... in fact this turntable is great value, and an early 90's amp and graphic are available for about £70 all in... and that's you being overcharged!

USB recording software is useless. If you want to simply pay your records this turntable is fine, this was my intention although the ability to turn my records into audio files was an added incentive. Much to my disappointment the disc that comes with the turntable for the recording software is only compatible on older OS such as windows 2000 and XP this is ridiculous and not actually mentioned by the seller either, the limited instructions are also printed in german. In short its a great turntable with USELESS software.

Was a little unsure about ordering as there were no reviews posted and the item was coming from Germany, but already have a Lenco MP3 player which is fine so took the plunge. Arrived when advised, well packaged and secure. Looks good, unlike some cheaper items I have seen. Worked well first time out of the box, and I am very happy with the results. It may not be top of the range, but to me seems excellent value for money. Easy to operate, and I am very pleased with it.

This is a fantastic record player. Plug and play, no hassle. Looks great and sounds great. Really pleased. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because it comes with a two pin continental power plug rather than a UK 3 pin. Also the built in audio cables are extremely short. Other than that this is a great vinyl player.

I bought this turntable as I had a nostalgia for vinyls, also because most of the new releases are coming back in this formar too. I done a lot research before to decide to buy the Lenco L-3867 consulting my vinyl geek friends and visit a variety of shops around London too, in most of the cases everyone will advise or recommend to you a turntable in region of 200 pounds plus the will advise you to buy some good speakers and a good amplifier for a total price of 500 pounds. Well if you like the ideas to play your old vinyls and buy new ones like me without going too anal about it this is the turntable for you. The Lenco-3867 despite the plastic and light, look and feel it sounds good and it comes a preamp which means that can be connected to a micro stereo or an amplifier via AUX without a phone input, which usually cost around 50 pounds. I have my Lenco attached to a 16 years old Panasonic micro system and it sounds just great a lot better than expected. I haven't tried the USB yet as I bought the turntable to play vinyls

Good product, does exactly what it should with them right software. Have over 200 vinyl to do initially, so it should keep me occupied for a while! I tried this with Audacity softwareand it works well. Having looked at other budget turntables on the market, this appears to do the best job for the money.

Ich besitze den Plattenspieler nun schon 2 Jahre lang und bin noch immer sehr zufrieden mit dem Gerät. Preis/Leistung absolut spitze! Abgenutzte Platten - im Besonderen 7"-Singles - spielt er verzerrt ab, was aber dann in der Regel an der bestehenden Abnutzung der Schallplatte liegt. Da können dann auch Nadel und Tonabnehmer nicht viel rausholen. Das machen Geräte, die 200 oder 300 EUR kosten (mit einem guten Tonabnehmer) besser. Anonsten ist die Klangqualität in etwa identisch mit dem OMNITRONIC DD-2550 USB-Plattenspieler mit seinem original mitgelieferten Tonabnehmer-System. Man sieht hieran, dass sich beim Kauf des Lenco eine Menge Geld sparen lässt. Der Gleichlauf ist ok. Schwankungen sind kaum zu vermelden, was am relativ schweren Alu-Plattenteller liegt. Auch die mitgelieferte Gummimatte ist TOP (auch wenn sie anfangs stark riecht, was aber schnell verfliegt - ich fand den Geruch eigentlich sogar gar nicht mal so schlecht riechend). Die Geschwindigkeit kann auf der Unterseite des Geräts notfalls nachreguliert werden. Dies ist aber eigentlich nur 1 x nötig, wenn überhaupt. Mein Stroboskop (nicht im Lieferumfang) maß auf Anhieb die korrekte Geschwindigkeit. Die Tonarmaufhängung ist ganz leicht wackelig. Und manchmal muss man den Teller nach automatischer Abschaltung nochmal kräftig von Hand nachdrehen, damit er nicht von selbst wieder neu anläuft, ohne dass dies gewollt ist. Desweiteren rumpelt es recht deutlich, wenn ein Musikstück zu Ende ist oder auch vor dessen Beginn an leiser Stelle. Aber das sind nur 3 zu vernachlässigende Macken, wie ich finde. Alles in allem muss ich sagen, dass mir der Lenco L-3867 USB so sehr ans Herz gewachsen ist, dass ich ihn eigentlich nicht gerne wieder hergebe. Ich habe mich vor einigen Tagen für ein Prefessional Turntable entschieden mit Profi-Tonabnehmer. Bis dato wurden 50 Singles und 30 LPs erfolgreich digitalisiert. Was mir gut gefällt ist die einfache Handhabung, der Plattenteller, die Abdeckhaube, das schicke Aussehen und das leichte Gewicht. Und Nadeln sind leicht und günstig zu bekommen. Der Klang ist für den Normal-Musikkonsumenten wirklich völlig in Ordnung. Tipp: Beim Digitalisieren den USB-Port verwenden und nicht den Line-Out, da etwas besserer, ausgewogenerer Klang. Ich würde den Lenco jederzeit wieder neu bestellen! Für den Preis ein tolles Gerät, welches man mit der Zeit immer wieder sehr gern benutzen wird.

Vuelvo a tener plato después de muchos años. Funciona bien, supongo que por su precio no tiene una calidad extraordinaria pero sobra. La función esa para pasar los discos al USB no la he usado...demasiado engorroso eso de conectar el plato al ordenador, cargar el programa e ir pasando disco a disco.

Le Lenco présente bien pour son prix. La qualité de la lecture est excellente. J'ai cependant cru détecter une légère irrégularité dans les sons continus ("wobbling") mais je ne sais pas si cela est dû au disque ou au Lenco. Mon objectif était de digitaliser en mp3 des disques 45 tours. Le Lenco est fourni avec le programme Audacity pour faire des enregistrements, qui par ailleurs peut être téléchargé gratuitement. J'ai Windows 7 et il m'a fallu une demi-journée pour finalement comprendre comment régler l'entrée du son par le port USB, qui autrement est trop fort si on accepte les paramètres par défaut. L'astuce est d'aller dans le paramètrage de Windows (encore faut-il le trouver) au lieu d'Audacity. Il faut aussi connecter le Lenco directement sur le port USB de l'ordinateur, et pas par un hub. Le manuel qui accompagne le Lenco décrit de manière schématique Audacity mais l'information est inutilisable. Sans doute que beaucoup ont le même problème car le manuel est livré avec un pense-bête en néerlandais qui demande à l'utilisateur de bien vérifier son installation avant de rendre l'appareil. Bien qu'Audacity est un bon programme, il n'est pas capable d'éliminer automatiquement les clics inévitables d'un vinyl. Pour cela, il faut les éliminer un à un, ce qui est très fastidieux, ou acheter un programme plus complet. C'est un bon produit mais pour des utilisateurs avertis.

Una buona scelta per riascoltare i vinile senza troppe pretese, molto buono il livello di preamplificazione. Si collega allo stereo, va bene anche un compatto con gli ingressi RCA, e volendo si può collegare anche al PC tramite USB per ascoltare o registrare. Il prezzo è molto conveniente rispetto alla concorrenza.

Ich kann einige schlechten Rezensionen diesmal nicht ganz nachvollziehen. Das Gerät wirkt weder billig, noch schrottig, noch springt bei uns die Nadel umher, bei jeder noch so leichten Erschütterung. Sicherlich gibts auch bei diesem Gerät wieder einige Montagsmodelle, aber wir müssen eher das Gegenteil bekräftigen. Natürlich haben auch wir einige Platten welche ganz gehörig knistern, allerdings scheint der Fehler (zumindest bei uns) eher an den Platten zu liegen als am Gerät, sprich Statik, Verschleiss und teils qualitativ minderwertig. Aber dafür das Platten schon seit Jahren aus dem Sortiment genommen worden sind, ist dies ein äusserst robustes Gerät, welches ordentlich verarbeitet wirkt, ein gutes Gewicht hat und sich nicht nach Plastikschrott anfühlt. Im Gegenteil, das Gehäuse ist fest und schaut in einem matten Anstrich gut aus, der Deckel stabil und klar, das Gummi geschmeidig und sauber gegossen, die Knöpfe reagieren sofort und wackeln zudem nicht, der Tisch gleichmässig und der Tonarm aus Metall, gut ausgependelt und ebenfalls ordentlich verarbeitet. Ansonsten lässt sich noch die Geschwindigkeit einstellen und des weiteren liegt ein Aufsatz für Platten mit grossem Spulenloch bei. Zugegeben das Gerät hat keinen Ein-/Ausschalter (erträgliche 1.1W im Standby, ~8kWh im Jahr), auch hat es keinen automatischen Tonarmhiever, somit auch keine Wiederholfunktion, aber dafür einen USB-Anschluss und so erkläre ich mir das auch; Sicher wäre es schön noch ein paar Bequemlichkeiten zu haben, aber das Gerät ist meines Erachtens primär zum digitalisieren von Platten konzipiert und eben nebenbei noch Plattenspieler für die Stereoanlage und letztlich (un-)regelmässigen Gebrauch. Natürlich funktioniert er als Anlagenplattenspieler einwandfrei, aber die Stärke des Gerätes liegt im USB-Anschluss, der kostenlosen Software und der damit verbundenen Digitalisierung von Platten in ausgezeichneter Qualität. Allerdings handelt es sich bei der Software um Freeware aus dem Internet, die von Lenco vielleicht ein wenig besser kundenspezifisch zugeschnitten sein könnte. Dennoch ist dieses Gerät um einiges hochwertiger als die zwar halb so teueren, aber oft auch weniger brauchbaren (Einweg-)Plattenspieler, ohne dabei an die Professionalität und Preis eines Technics o.ä. heranzureichen. Guter Kompromiss, meines Erachtens, für Leute mit grossen Plattensammlungen, welche zwar digitalisieren oder ab und zu reinhören wollen, den Geldbeutel aber nicht zu sehr strapazieren möchten. Halbe Sternchen gibt es nicht, aber entspricht meiner Meinung nach einem 4.5/5, leichter Abzug eben wegen jener mangelnden Bequemlichkeiten.
