New Line Cinema—the studio that brought you "The Notebook"—and the unhinged creators of "Barbarian" cordially invite you to experience a new kind of love story... Review: A great watch - I gave it a shot on desertcart based on great reviews..Knew nothing about it prior and loved the film so much i bought the 4k disc...The lead girl Sophie Thatcher has a memorble screen presence reminding me the first time i saw Florence Pugh in Midsommar...You cant take your eyes off of these marvelous and uniquely beautiful actresses..Definetely an intersting plot with good pacing Review: Awww Yeah (No Spoiler) - I don't keep up on new releases and recall seeing the trailer for this and dismissing it as probably some thriller about a guy who kidnaps his girlfriend. My favorite genre is psychological thrillers, so I got bored tonight, and sat down to watch this movie thinking it was just another movie about a kidnapped girl. The story begins with a group of six friends who gather at a house for a retreat and let's just say things gradually unravel from there into a complete cluster fark. Things are a bit slow for the first twenty minutes of the film, and I admit feeling slightly disinterested when the first plot twist came, because there was some foreshadowing. I even got (yawn) distracted with something else, and had to pause the movie, but finally decided to just give it a chance. So glad I did! Another reviewer said it's best if you go in blind. Completely agree. This film isn't horror per se, but it's in the same vein as Freaky, Final Girl, and Totally Killer, in that it gives you a fun entertaining ride but doesn't take itself too seriously, even though the subject matter can sometimes be a bit disturbing. Is it a movie about a kidnapped girl? You should watch and find out. I can promise that the majority of people who watch this little gem, will not be disappointed. The ending was fairly satisfying as well. For me, this movie is a cult classic.

Fun movie.
It had a theater vibe. A fun movie, entertaining, not necessarily artistic anymore than most movies. But it is pleasing to watch it all unfold. I think the ending is a nice touch after all of the stressful situations. I guess I anticipated something far different from this. It kind of has a comical touch which is fine, I was initially thinking this could be quite serious. Top notch acting, but I just watched Dancer in the Dark for the first time in many years, which called for some major acting. Yet this movie has its own energy and uses it well. You kind of feel you've seen people behave this way but never as much in real life. I just think this is an escape from reality, whereas something like Dancer in the Dark is so touching, I guess it's unfortunate that movies branched out in a way that neglects certain aspects of reality. You might like this one as a horror comedy. It is just so silly in some parts. I like it though, for that and some of the shocking parts too. I guess it sharpens the mind and you catch onto things easier that way. Definitely worth seeing, and it lived up to the hype, just more as a comedy.

It's been a while since I've seen a movie in this genre that was so well made. Bravo.
Great. Fresh. Relevant, if ahead of its time by a few years, still a good warning. All the movie making stuff was there, good script, dialog, characters and motivations, cinematography, lighting, editing. All of it. The only thing I didn't like was the small amount of dancing in the movie. I'm not a dancer.

Good movie but I bought it mainly for the beautiful Sophie Thatcher.
Awesome movie. When I first saw the trailer I had no idea what it was about but I was still interested. I saw it at the movies and the rest is history. I never get tired of watching this movie.

The Companion Review: A Tense Thriller with Missed Potential and a Weak Ending
Movie Review: The Companion (2024) – A Claustrophobic Thriller with Missed Potential The Companion is an atmospheric thriller that thrives on tension, strong performances, and a unique premise. However, its confined setting and divisive ending may leave some viewers feeling unfulfilled. Strengths One of the film’s standout qualities is its eerie, suspenseful tone. The cinematography does an excellent job of making a single location—primarily a remote cabin—feel both intimate and unsettling. The lead performances are strong, with the cast effectively conveying paranoia, fear, and psychological unraveling. The story itself presents an intriguing concept, keeping viewers engaged as the mystery unfolds. Weaknesses A common critique of The Companion is its reliance on a single setting. While some may appreciate the claustrophobic atmosphere, others (myself included) find it limiting. This choice can make the pacing feel sluggish, as the lack of new locations sometimes diminishes the sense of progression. Another notable drawback is the ending. Without spoiling anything, it leaves much to be desired. Many viewers have expressed disappointment, feeling that the conclusion doesn’t fully capitalize on the film’s potential. There were several directions the story could have taken to deliver a more impactful resolution, but instead, it leaves a sense of "what could have been." Final Verdict The Companion is a decent thriller with a compelling premise, strong atmosphere, and solid performances. However, the constrained setting and underwhelming ending prevent it from reaching its full potential. It’s worth a watch for fans of psychological suspense, but it may not be something you'd revisit unless introducing it to someone new. A solid 3 out of 5 stars—good, but not great.

A Refreshing and Original Thriller
A young woman, Iris, recounts the moment that she met her boyfriend Josh at a grocery store. Some time later, Iris and Josh travel to an isolated lake house to meet their friends: Kat, Eli, and Patrick, as well as Sergey, Kat's boyfriend and the owner of the lake house. There is a bit of tension right at the outset. Iris senses that she might not be welcome amongst Josh's friends. But she'll make the best of it. That is until she shows up the next morning covered in blood and the home owner is dead. What follows is a refreshingly clever sci/fi thriller that relies less on gore and shock value than it does on the character's motivations advancing the story. Sophie Thatchet plays Iris. She is the heart of the movie, at least as much as she can be. Jack Quaid as Josh proves he can play a slimy cad almost as well as his famous father. Lukas Gage also proves himself capable in his best role to date. It's not scary, but is witty and has some suspense. For all its originality, however, it does feel slightly inconsequential. I wish it had explored a little more darkness. Still it is better than most thrillers that come along each year.
