Best on market, especially at the price
This headset is the best headset I've used in a very long time. My astro a50 gen 4 recently stopped working, and I then proceeded down a deep hole of trying literally every headset I could get my hands on. Went through 2 different a50s and both were not working correctly. I went to the steelseries line, and those have absolutely zero base or even mids. Even the newest arcitus nova pro wireless, which is $350, had so little base compared to the a50. I tried razer nari ultimate, still not enough low end. I tried the hyperx cloud alpha wireless, which was great. But the mic had to essentially be in my mouth for it to pick up my voice, which I dont want to be eating the mic for people to hear me. I really really wanted a wireless headset, but nothing worked, not even replacement a50. So when prime day rolled around, the a40s went on sale. For $100 there is literally no better headset for gaming. It's essentially the a50s, but wired. Especially with the mix amp, allowing for really fine tuning of the sound. This headset doesn't come with the mix amp, but the mix amp is not a must have at all. The headset is ultra comfortable right out of the box, and astro sells mod kits to make them completely noise cancelling. My brother has the same set and the kit, and the passive noise cancelling from the upgraded speaker tags and leatherette earcups is almost dangerous. The headset becomes so closed with the mod kit, that almost creates a small suction on your head, completely blocking out outside noise when there's sound going through the headset. It also comes out of the box as a open OR closed back headset. Which I've not seen in any other headset on the market. Literally just pop off the speaker tags and you have an open back headset. Put them back on and you have closed back. Super easy with the magnets that hold the tags on. Mic can also be used on either side of the headset, if you prefer your mic to be on the right side of your head. There's only two things that bothered me at first. I say at first because I pretty quickly got over them. But the mic is not flip to mute. I don't know why, especially seeing how every other model they sell is flip to mute. The mute is on the cable itself. And the second is the cable. It's just about 6 feet long, which I understand why. It's so you can buy the mix amp and use that with the more convenient longer cable. But I don't have the mix amp, so having to juggle a six foot cable in my lap from the controller to the headset got extremely annoying, extremely quickly. I ended up buying the $20 astro a40 mobile cable, which is what should honestly come with the headset. Their mobile cable still works with any normal 3.5 Jack, but it's long 3ish feet long, and has a mute, hold to mute and volume wheel. That cable is what should come with the headset, but doesn't. Oh well Definitely the absolute best headset I've used. Only topped by the a50 in my opinion. But the $150, it's without a doubt my new main headset, probably for years to come

just what i spected, maybe i little bit more
i have not try too many gaming headphones being my first and previous pair the sennheiser gsp 300, but it at least i can compare the experience of these. First the audio is incredible detail, ease to identify steps locate other players, compare the gsp im able to locate even easier other players. Something i realize when i use then for the first time is that the a40 have more impedance so the sound is a little bit lower than the gsp wich can blow your head off, byt the way i use then on a ps4 and i dont conect the headphones to the controller, i use a usb sound card wich emulate the 7.1 sorround sound, and increase the sound a little bit. The headphoes are basically open back headphones if you dont buy the mod kit, so keep in mind that if you are planning to use these on a ps4 controller you better make sure you are on a quite enviroment, otherwise you will need to get the mod kit to avoid noises to leak inside. Constructions is sturdy, compare to the gsp300 these are heavier, i mean feel like are double the weight of the gsp 300 from sennheiser, obviously the a40 is made with more durable materials. Taking appart the heavier the a40 feel(i was using the gsp 300 for 8 months so maybe thats why i feel that something unconfortable but maybe after a couple of weeks it will be all rigth) the a 40 are confortable, the earpads are super soft and just as i was expecting my ears dont feel war of swety, and now i can play more time without taking the headsets off every match because my ears are swet(i live on a very hot place so it become a anoying situation so if you dont an AC the a40 will work for you) Microphone is OK, i mean, iwas not expecting then to be great, my friends say the sound of my voice is clear but after using the gsp300 headphones i dont think there will be anything better on a headset, compare with other headphones its a lot better, specially compare to the headphones that come with the ps4. Noise cancelling works great and i love that i can change the headphones to the right side, i normally play with a fan next to me i can only use it on my right side so when i have the mic on my left this make a horrible noise because of the air and my friends always complain about that, so know i can move the mic the noise just disappear, i dont like that you need to use a switch on the cable to mute the mic, but you get use to it after a couple of hours(i still lift the mic to mute it like the gsp300 and then remember is does not work that way) In conclusion you won be dissaponted by getting this headset, i dont have to recommend then because you already got lots of recommendations for then, but if you have the money, and love to play on competitive, go ahead and buy then.

Not the best headset for the price
Update: I will keep the original review below. Well after 1.5 almost 2 years of hard use i switched from 4/5 to 5/5 stars. I’ve stepped on this thing about a dozen times, rolled over every portion of the cord with my chair, dropped it a ton and even walked away from my setup and had the thing ripped off my head onto the ground, lol oops. This thing still feels and works like it did day one. I still don’t love the headset doesn’t have a usb adapter but besides that this thing is rugged and crisp. I still recommend HyperX cloud II’s but these Astros are a close second in effectiveness and quality, while admittedly being a little cooler looking. This has got to be my second favorite headset I’ve ever owned, and I’ve had a few! I would recommend you check out the HyperX Cloud II headset as well. After buying these new A40’s, I’ve gotta say they’re much less comfy and sturdy than the Clouds. Also the mic and audio quality are MUCH better on the HyperX cloud headsets. Along with that, the Cloud II’s include a small “mix amp” like adapter that allows change of game to chat volume, surround sound toggle, and mute button. Bottom line, the only thing these Astros have on the HyperX headset I had previously is looks, they definitely have a cooler design. My recommendation is you don’t buy these a40’s before you consider the HyperX Cloud II’s.

Great yet their is one major flaw and downside to this headset
So to start i figured out the one issue with an otherwise good headset when the theives at Astro decided that when they were going to sell the new tr x a40 headset they would sell it with the wrong inline mute cable. The one provided does not mute and is incompatible with the a40 mix amp on ps4 I know this because even when muted feedback from my mic still comes in and the MixAmp itself does not turn red. Yet magicaly when I bought the 30 dollar og in-line cable it worked perfectly. That’s some shady business If you ask me.as a warning when you buy this headset you need to also spend another 30 bucks on the og in-line mute cable. The headset itself is amazing with that’s right I said with the tr MixAmp with out it it’s complete garbage sound wise unless it’s on the Nintendo switch sounds amazing on that but terrible wired on the Xbox and PlayStation without the MixAmp witch is another hundred dollars. Would I recommend this only if your willing to spend even more on the mixamp because with it in my opinion it’s better then my a50 in terms of overall sound and build quality. stay away from those I wasted 600 bucks on two pairs of a50s cause build wise they are terrible and messing with the mic on that causes shorts and damages the headset itself also the base station on that works for awhile but after awhile you will have to physically move the headset on the dock itself until it syncs. Their you have it hope this helps you guys.

Great comfort and sound without having to fiddle with crap. Comfortable for big heads
I've had these things for years. I struggled for a long time finding one that sounded right and got really lucky that this pair played sound just like I like it without a lot of annoying reverb or staticy sounds. The headset is great and you'll forget you're wearing it easily. You'll never feel any sweat on the ear or the like either, which is fantastic. I'm 6 foot 8 inches tall; have a big head as a result. It fit fine on me for years. If I was to complain about one complaint; it's that the mic needs to be pretty close to your face or the noise canceling dims your own voice. But it's not a huge deal and is just an adjustment I make once every couple months when I notice I moved the wire a bit far or something.

Listen.......
Has pretty cool and nice sound, however you have to turn the volume all the way up if your using on a console to be able to hear anything. Before this i was using the SkullCandy Crusher headphones and i would us both the amp and non amp of the skull Crushers and they sounded louder than these. However i could not get good communication from them as i would have to use a wired 3.5mm cable with a mic and the mic on the cable i had sucked. It was hard for me to buy these as the skullcandies have aswesome sound both unamp and amped. I had the wireless SkullCandy Crrushers so when i turn them on they would be amplified and had haptic feedback which i enjoyed. Either way the Skullcandies are awesome for sound but mic was not coo for me. So i bought these and enjoy the mic quality the sound is ok they are meant to be used with an amp as standalones they arent that great for sound. I have to have my volume on the xbox turned all they way up to hear the game properly. But the sound is great, mic is good, would recommend best bought on sale.

Most Reliable Headset I've Ever Owned!
I have bought this headset back in 2020, still going strong. I've used this headset pretty much daily, very comfortable, The mic, all my friends say its clear and good. I've had very little problems over the 4 years I have had it, a little beat up and but still trucking on and working as new lol. I'd highly recommend anyone, If you want a reliable, durable, comfortable headset this is the one. 10/10

Awesome quality for the price!!
I’ve never had a solid pair of gaming headphones before till now!! I was using the Hyperx Cloud sting before but the microphone gave out recently. I’ve been wanting a pair of astros for a long time so I’m glad I got these. I don’t have the mix amp to go with them (yet) but they sound pretty damn good without it. I don’t recommend using these to listen to music because there isn’t much bass but I’m pretty sure if you have the amp it would correct that. First time having them on they feel a little tight around the side of your head but I’ll probably get used to it after a few hours wearing them. I also wear glasses and I’m happy to say they don’t conflict while using them! Thank god!! The only downside to these is that there is no volume control on the cable.... I guess that could be corrected if you buy another cable that works with it I’m not sure though. Overall 10/10 headset if you have the funds for it!! And I’ve seen people have them for many years if you treat them nicely! Edit: Some people were complaining about the microphone being muffled... if you are on PlayStation go to the microphone settings and turn up the volume.
