One of the most popular and critically acclaimed graphic novels of all time, Neil Gaiman's award-winning masterpiece The Sandman set the standard for mature, lyrical fantasy in the modern comics era. Illustrated by an exemplary selection of the medium's most gifted artists, the series is a rich blend of modern and ancient mythology in which contemporary fiction, historical drama, and legend are seamlessly interwoven. The Sandman Vol. 1: Preludes & Nocturnes 30th Anniversary Edition collects issues #1-8 of the original run of The Sandman, beginning an epic saga unique in graphic literature and introducing readers to a dark and enchanting world of dreams and nightmares--the home of Morpheus, the King of Dreams, and his kin, the Endless. Review: Even better the 2nd,3rd and 4th times around lol - What more can be said about The Sandman that hasn't been said before. Great, masterful story telling, amazing characters, story arcs, amazing 2nd-ary characters and smaller ones that are just as great. Art, colors, dialog, lettering, ect. All of it is top notch and it gets better and better as the series goes. Just love re-reading these again every few years and it never disappoints and I find more things I missed or find a panel I love better then the 1st time. One of my favorite series of all time and one of the best ever. Review: Sandman vol 1 - Amazing read. More is better. Off to vol 2. I recommend this to anyone looking for different, bizarre, outstanding, and more

Great story, great art.
It was hard to choose tags for this book... It's a weird ride but once you start, you are hooked. I avoided the Sandman comics for a long time because...? I was curious, but maybe I was afraid to take the leap. But I'm on a Neil Gaiman kick right now, so I decided to take the plunge and bought the 30th anniversary edition from amongst many options. I wanted to see what the fuss was about, why it's considered to be such a classic. Now I know. I had no idea what this was going to be when I started reading. It begins with a cult. The leader is trying to trap Death so he can achieve immortality. (No death equals eternal life!) But he catches Death's little brother instead. And while the Lord of Dreams, the Sandman, Morpheus is in captivity, three precious artifacts are stolen: his dream dust, his mask, and a ruby containing parts of himself. Volume 1 of the trade paperback series shows what happens to us all without the Sandman, and follows Morpheus along on his journey to reclaim his possessions. At times the story was horrifying, and sometimes it was really trippy. Morpheus is on earth, he visits hell, and he takes us to his dream realm. I enjoyed the eclectic story and characters, though Morpheus himself was by far my favorite. The art was a feast for the eyes. I can't wait to see where else the series takes me.

Good Read
I had no idea this was a graphic novel when I picked it up on Kindle. I grabbed it because it was a Neil Gaiman book, who I read last year and really enjoyed. As far as graphic novels go, and I'll admit that I'm not expert, this was very well done. I really liked the premise – trying to capture Death, but catching Dream instead. The characters were interesting and there was plenty of good action. Even though I'm a Gaiman fan, I'm not really a graphic novel fan. But it would be unfair of me to compare this to novels, so I'm rating it solely against other graphic novels that I've read. 4 stars

Amazing like everyone says.
Everything from the storyline to the art work is absolutely amazing in this series. The Netflix show recently came out and it as well hold true to the comic. It takes a few creative liberties from the comic but both are still quite amazing. The first Volume focuses mainly on Dream’s capture and the retrieval of his magical items that have fallen into the wrong hands. It’s going to be a battle to get his items back and re create his dream world, but if anyone is able to accomplish such a test is is the Lord of dreams.

I could not put this book down
Preludes & Nocturnes Confession time I have never read this amazing series until just now. I have heard about it for years but my experience with graphic novels tends more toward superheroes. I am so glad I finally wised up and opened this first in The Sandman universe. It is Morpheus who takes center stage the Dream Lord who has been captured by mortals and held for years as they demand power from him. After escaping and of course bringing revenge on the guilty he must find his power sources that were lost. First up his pouch of sand. This leads him to John Constantine's society. Next, he must go into hell to face Lucifer to retrieve his helmet. Finally, he must obtain his ruby that contains so much of his power within it. The journey is a warrior's journey to find his power again. I think my favorite part was his meeting his big sister Death at the end. She is an incredible character that I can't wait to see more of. I have already started ordering the subsequent graphic novels. I can't wait to continue my journey into Neil Gaiman's amazing world.

amazing
I loved everything about this first volume of The Sandman. I have no previous experience with The Sandman, but saw an advertisement for the show and having read and watched Good Omens, thought I would give this comic a chance. I’m not stranger to comics and while I am normally much more interested in Marvel Comics, I found The Sandman extremely captivating and unique. I’m looking forward to teaching my children how to play The Oldest Game and getting to know more about Dream and his story via the next volumes.

I’m an idiot
So I first heard of this series from Netflix. I’ve watched it twice and loved every minute of it and I needed more. I ordered this thinking it was a novel 🥴 excuse my ignorance. So I returned it and then ordered the one that wasn’t the 30th anniversary edition, also not a novel haha. I just can’t into comics. But it had beautiful artwork and I love the story.

Even Better Than I'd Anticipated
A great story is shallow and untethered without great characters, and great characters are lost and aimless without a great story. Neil Gaiman is a master of both. I was so captivated by this volume that after finishing the third issue in it, I went and bought the next four volumes. If you love both grim, gothic, supernatural horror and all things magical and whimsical, the Sandman is a darkly fantastical marriage of the two. It's after 1:30am as I'm typing this review and I intend to jump straight into the next volume, sleep be damned. I truly cannot emphasise enough just how much literally everyone needs to read the Sandman.

Epic - simply wonderful
For a long time I had hear opinions, suggestions from a friend of a friend, about the sheer depth of the Sandman comics. There is nothing in the realm of reality that I can share to rival the beautiful storytelling in graphic form that this is. Do not hesitate to read, you will thank me later.
