GE Backlit Buttons Universal Remote Control, Samsung TV Remote Control

I was looking for a remote to replace the failing 20yo Hauppauge remotes I have been using with Kodi on my HTPC ODroid clients. This one from GE seemed to have the buttons I needed, plus I could program it to control the TV as well so that would have been great to eliminate another remote in each room. I do like the backlit buttons, this would be great for use in evenings/low light conditions. It doesn't have the Yellow-Blue-Red-Green buttons many media player devices have on their remotes, which I do use, but I could probably get around that. Unfortunately the numeric buttons do not emit IR commands for STRM or AUX, only TV. This is a deal-breaker. Seems preposterously stupid when you go look at the actual OEM remotes for the remote programming codes they list, as virtually all of the OEM remotes have numeric keypads. I tried about 10 codes on both STR and AUD and the remote doesn't send out IR commands for the number buttons with any. Too bad none work because I can program the ODroid to make any remote button perform any function in Kodi, so I could have made anything work. The number buttons do work for TV, so obviously the buttons work. Firmware failure, this one is going back. I had pretty-much the exact same results with a similar remote from Philips, so it seems likely they are both using a 3rd party chipset that is flawed.

I was very pleased and impressed with how quickly the remote connected to both my (10+ year-old Vizio) TV and my (1-year-old Roku Express) streaming media player. I entered the listed codes manually, for both devices. In both cases, the first code listed worked like a charm. I'm not very techy, but after reading and following the instructions, it all went very smoothly for both devices. I love that the buttons light up, and are a good size to read. They feel just a little spongey when pressed (I prefer a more defined, firm, "click" feel for buttons), but it was manageable. When entering numeric codes that ended with 5, I had to push the 5 twice to get it to light up and connect. Not sure whether that was intended/designed, or a result of the spongey-ness. I also have a (5-year-old Samsung) DVD player whose remote had been corroded over time. I purchased what I thought was the replacement remote for the model/serial number, but it didn't work. It's possible my DVD player is old enough that dedicated remotes are no longer available. That was my initial reason for trying this universal remote. I hoped the universal remote would control all the same functions as the old, included DVD remote. This universal remote does power my DVD player on and off, and it does open and close the DVD drawer. But I couldn't get it to show the DVD menu (for options like subtitles or special film features). I manually entered every code listed for a Samsung DVD player, and some of those codes did work to power on/off, and open/close the drawer. I then cycled through the instructions to let the remote seek and find its own codes, with the same result. I tested a few different DVDs, but never could get as far as playing the movie, so I couldn't test pause, fast forward, or rewind functions (I saw only the opening FBI warning screen and producer logo screens). Maybe my DVD player is just finally dying, and no remote can help. On closer inspection, I realized that this universal remote's description and instructions indicate only that it will power on/off and open/close DVD players; there is nothing that says it can access DVD menus or control playback. It's possible a newer DVD player might accept more codes or connect with more DVD functions. So overall, this is a really great remote for at least TVs and Streaming; it may work very well with newer, fancier DVD players and other components as well. The instructions are clear, and set-up was fully complete within 30-60 seconds for 2/3 of my devices.

I really like this remote. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is becaause their codes don't work for everything, but probably no remote can actually claim that. It immediately worked for my new Vizio TV. There are a couple functions on my Vizio that this doesn't operate, but I've pretty much learned to get around it. They only have One Code for my NVidia streaming box. Their one code Doesn't work. I tried everything and yes I did the thing where you let the remote tell you which code to use. There are 4 numbers in the code and the code it gave me was the exact same one code that they had listed. I went to their website and asked about it, but they never did get back to me. I don't know why they give you the website and then blow you off. I guess they're not concerned about a $10 remote. So, I'm back to using my NVidia remote again. The other thing I don't like is that their numbers aren't marked well. I've only had my remote a few days and the word SETUP (button at the top), is already wearing off. So, now I'm wondering if all my button designations will be wearingg off soon. But, on the plus side, I absolutely LOVE the blue Backlit light that lights up whenever you touch a button. I use my remotes a lot at night, so I really appreciate it. The backlit keys are the reason I purchased this. Some people say that their backlight stops working after a while. I hope not. What I would really like, is to find a better remote that has a backlight, but not many remotes have that function. I do recommend this remote. Just understand that you're buying a cheap remote and maybe it will work on your devices and maybe it won't. I'll continue to use it for my TV, but I do wish it had worked for the NVidia, because I like playing games at night. Thank you for reading my review.

No problem connecting to my devices (tv, roku express, dvd player). The light on the remote turns off very quickly (I assume to preserve the battery) so I have to keep pressing a button to keep it lit while I navigate. I’m sure when I am used to it that won’t be a problem, but for now it’s a pain. My one big complaint is there is NO SLEEP TIMER! It says you can access it through the tv menu but my tv doesn’t have that. So if I want to use the sleep timer I still have to use another remote, which defeats the purpose of having this one! Other than that it’s fine.

This remote doesn't work like I thought it would. It is more difficult to program & set up. All I have is the TV and a DVD player. I had some issues with the remote this evening - it would not work on my DVD player. I ended up unplugging everything and re-starting the TV and the DVD player. Then, I have to re-install the remote. I like that it lights up and the buttons are easy to push - they could be a little larger, though. I am 81 years old, and I will have to get a young person to help me with getting this to work correctly.

I'm in love with this channel changer it's great and set up is easy. The light isa must.

Although it's very easy to do the remote has to be reprogrammed about once a week since it loses it somehow. I'm not sure if it's the remote or the TV but I haven't had this problem with my TV or other remotes before. The remote is well lit and worked perfectly fine as long as it holds its programming

Bought this, used for five days. Loved it so much, I bought another. Now, have been using for two weeks and, sometimes it don’t work. PROS: very easy to set up! Got my non smart tv and my Roku box set up in about ten minutes. It was a breeze. I absolutely love the black remote with blue backlit buttons. But, not sure if I’m doing something wrong or not. Some of the buttons don’t work. When I push the go back button, nothing happens. Have to go out and back in = very frustrating. Also, I could not figure out how to access the tv menu to set my sleep timer, that’s a deal breaker. When I push menu button, nothing happens. I then push the volume button to make sure it is in tv mode, it is. Update: bought this so I would only have to use one remote. Could never get it to work properly. So, just went back to using two remotes. The second one I bought works fairly well on the other TV. But every several days it quits working and you have to bang it on the palm of your hand and it’ll start working again. And, no, it’s not the batteries.

Bought GE 40081 so we could control TV, volume, Roku (Telstra TV) etc from one remote. Works with Telstra TV out of the box and only took a couple of minutes to program for our TV and Bluray/Home theatre system. Has a comprehensive list of codes included for hundreds of devices. The backlight is also great and fast delivery from US 👍👍👍

¡Me encantó! Ya tenía un control universal de la misma marca, pero después de 10 años de uso continuo se dañó el botón de OK. Por eso busqué otro igual o parecido. No tuve que configurar nada: venía listo para Roku y Samsung, solo le puse las pilas y funcionó de inmediato.

Reasonably priced, comptabile with a wide range of brands and backlighting is handy during the evening. Obervation - I tried pairing a Panasonic TV with the standard codes recommended in the instructions; however, certain functions (ex: input) would not work properly. Instead, I reverted to the manual programming and despite it taking a few minutes, it fully paired with all functionalities. Same thing with our set top box. All in all, worthy of 5 stars just the same.
