You could set it up anywhere you liked. It would work anywhere as long as you had Wi-Fi and could connect it to your phone. The quality/consistency of the lodging’s Wi-Fi might be an issue. The camera is compact, light, and portable.

Does this have barking dog detection notifications?

You could turn on the sound and listen to hear whether your dog was barking. I am not aware of notifications being available.
