Sensitive regular cooking and a vape triggers them
They work. I hate them. Can go off during normal cooking. Triggered by vape. I'm sure if you are an in door smoker it will go off for those too. They are fine as it's only once in a while. 5 star because they do work. Better to be over sensitive than not sensitive enough I guess.

Working well, installation issues to know + More Issues 6 Months In
We needed to replace a set of old Kidde smoke detectors in our home that had just reached their end of life. For whatever reason the new Kidde alarms have a different cable to the old ones that were previously wired into our home, so it was easier to buy these with a built-in 10-year battery rather than re-wire everything in the roof, or pay extra to buy a bunch of adapters, that may or may not work, depending on which new alarm choice I made. I knew I would have to replace the ring in the roof with the new one that these came with, but what I was not expecting was that there were only TWO SCREW HOLES in the base, neither of which lined up with the six old KIDDE detectors I was removing. Ironically the old roof rings must have had 6 to 8 different screw hole options, but the new ones didn't match up with anything. Unfortunately, screwing directly into the roof wasn't an option as I needed to cover the old hole with wiring with the new units, and the round wire bracket in the ceiling comes pre-built with four screw location possibilities, but none of which work for this new unit, so I had to measure and drill my own holes, which was far more difficult than I imagined as the initial holes still didn't work out so I had to drill a few options until I got it just right by the time I got the 6th unit installed. Soooo... be warned... these work, but installation may not be as easy as you think. --- UPDATE 6 MONTHS LATER --- One other item to know... so far these units have proved to be ultra sensitive to dust. I replaced 6 old KIDDE alarms that were installed with the house over 15 years ago that stood the test of time and were really overdue to EOL replacement. The idea of 10 years without annoying "chirps" in the middle of the night from time to time was very appealing, but 2-3 months in I had to take down one alarm in my bedroom because it wouldn't stop chirping. Called tech support, did troubleshooting, kept going off and they said they would send a replacement that might take up to 4-6 weeks to arrive. They wondered since it was installed in the bedroom, not far from our ceiling fan if it had collected too must dust in 2-3 months. Odd I thought, as it was installed as a replacement for their previous unit that lasted over 15 years in the same place without issue. Smoke detectors are typically installed in ceilings, typically along with ceiling fans, so that shouldn't bother them, but the lady on the phone said these are sometime sensitive to the dust blown around by fans and suggested moving the replacement elsewhere if it happens again. While waiting for the replacement, I kept the malfuncting unit and took it to work and gave it a thorough blasting with compressed air in every pore and low-and-behold... it started working just fine again. All chirping ceased, so I returned it into place and when spare arrived, I set it aside because I wanted to see how long this one lasted again by the fan. Only 2 months later, another unit in another room actually went into full blown alarm mode for no reason. It too wasn't far from a ceiling fan, but this was a much smaller fan. Took it down, had a can of compressed air handy this time, blasted it out, alarm ended and we put it back. One month later a 3rd unit downstairs this time, much further away from any fans, but in the hall just outside a room with a large ceiling fan, started the false alarm chirping (3 times every 60 seconds, blinking once)... compressed air to the rescue and all is well, but it seems clear that the dream of 10 years of without chirping issues is not going to be possible at this point. Instead of low battery chirps, it seems that false alarms that require a compressed air bath to clean it out every 3 to 6 months is now my future unless they improve over time, or get worse, in which case I'll be looking to replace with another brand entirely...

One failed prematurely
I had a somewhat strange situation, since one of the two smoke detectors failed after two months, beeping for no reason, and it would resume beeping after I silenced it. That is, until I opened it up and found that tiny spiders had built webs inside and shorted out the circuits. Many months later, the other detector is still working fine, but now I know why some detectors, like the X-Sense I replaced the failed one with, explicitly advertise that they have traps to prevent bugs from getting into them.

Great for the most part
I bought five of these for my new house. They have been up for a couple of months when one of them keep going off for no reason. I take it down and reset it, and it is good for a few days to a week, and it goes off again. Other four are fine. I got them so I wouldn't have maintenance every year, this is even worse! But since it is only one of five that has this issue, I still gave them four stars.

Humidity sensitive
Had these for almost a year now. Just this week weโve had some wet weather thatโs made the house humid. One alarm went off last week another just now when we ran the central air- Iโm guessing from the air rapidly drying out? Just a heads up if you have fluctuations. Iโm glad to have them out of safety, but it was a rude awakening.
